CH 3 : GOD’S CRIPPLED SON

Divine Bird City … 7 years later

A fourteen-year-old boy was standing in front of a stone statue, staring at it. He had a slim build, tall figure, tattered cloth, short black hair, and blue eyes with a little sadness in them.

The statue depicted a man, or rather, a strong warrior standing with armor cladding around his body, while both of his hands were placed on top of a sword pointing downwards. Two phoenix wings spanned from his back.

While the boy was dazed thinking about something as he looked at the grand statue, suddenly, another boy called him from behind.

“Brother Feng!!”

However, the boy still continued to stare forward, looking at the statue as if he did not hear the call. Thus, the caller repeated while strongly grabbing the boy’s shoulder and shaking it.

“Hey!! Brother Feng!!”

After the boy turned towards him, the one who called out earlier suggested with a low voice: “You should train properly, or else the teacher is going to yell at us!!”

It appeared that they were in a training class on a school field. Today was the day where students would do practice their hand-to-hand combat to further their experience in fighting. There was a teacher overseeing the class, Teacher Shu, and he would advise his students from time to time.

“I know, Brother Sun” indifferently replied the boy, still muddleheaded.

His name was Feng Luotian. He nodded at the caller who was also a boy at the same age with brown hair, a small yet firm build, and a pair of yellow eyes, named Sun Wuji.

“But what’s the point, if even this doesn’t work?”

Feng Luotian added, showing his hands full of bandages to Sun Wuji.

Sun Wuji took a glance.

After getting a response from Feng Luotian, Sun Wuji sighed and shook his head, understanding the implicative meaning in Feng Luotian’s action. “Just do what the teacher told us to do, and we will go train the way you want later, alright?”

“Okay.” Feng Luotian gave another sigh to himself and agreed. After that, he posed his battle stance facing Sun Wuji to fight in hand-to-hand combat as they were tasked, but …

Pah!! Pah!! Pah!! … Thud!!

With a couple of moves, while he was still on his mind about something, Feng Luotian got flipped to the ground by his sparring partner.

“What’s wrong with you today, Brother Feng? Did you eat your breakfast properly?”

Sun Wuji lightly chuckled. He extended his hand towards Feng Luotian signaled him that he would support him up.

Not trying to get up from the ground, Feng Luotian lay there and said: “No, it’s not that … I just … Sigh!!”

Feng Luotian exhaled loudly.

“Even if I go through all the training and push myself thousands of times harder, I won’t be able to accomplish a thing before I can overcome my current condition, you know … being a cripple and all that.”

As the story went, Feng Luotian was in fact a cripple who was unable to cultivate, in other words, he could not practice or train to become any stronger than a commoner.

The fact that he was strong enough to beat some of the cultivators was incredible by and of itself. However, anything beyond that, he was just like an average worker who could only use his muscle and nothing more.

In this world, there were two types of people. One was a commoner, and another one was a cultivator. Cultivators could literally control the energy within their bodies and use it in battle, whereas commoners could not.

“Don’t give me that s*** again, Brother Feng!! We have talked about this. You will and surely be able to ‘awaken’ your bloodline one day.”

In response to Feng Luotian’s pathetic state, Sun Wuji furrowed his brows and grabbed Feng Luotian’s hand, then forcefully pulled him up. But not a moment later that a scornful voice came from the side.

“Right, right!! As Little Sun said, you will be able to awaken and breakthrough … and become a One Fang Fighter one day, well, in your next life maybe, heh!!”

Another male youth with crimson eyes, long blood-color hair, a tall figure, and a proper dress was walking toward the two while disdainfully laughing at them. This caused rage to appear within Sun Wuji’s eyes, but before he could bark back at the newcomer, a harsh rebuke sounded from another.

“Shut up, Ying Lizhua!! There is no one calling you a mute even if you don’t speak!!”

It was a girl who immediately cursed at the guy.

“Are you okay, Luotian?”

The girl asked worriedly. Her hair was dark brown with a little glint of green at the end. Her long beautiful hair and fascinating green eyes matched perfectly with her green-and-white silk dress. Her skin was white and smooth like a refined jade along with her flawless countenance like coming straight out of a drawing of a maestro. Any man of the same generation would adore her at first sight.

All of this gave her the title of the goddess within the city, and her name was Mei Yue’er.

Nevertheless, her beauty did not seem to have any effect on Ying Lizhua, much less make him back away from his previous intention to mock Feng Luotian, as he continued to smirk towards all of them.

Ying Lizhua was the current top dog in the pre-school. In fact, he was even more than that.

Ying Lizhua was the fastest to become a cultivator in the history of Divine Bird City.

To become a cultivator was to be able to awaken their own bloodline and normally, if someone had the potential of being a cultivator, they would be able to awaken their bloodline and become a cultivator when they were twelve years old.

However, Ying Lizhua did that since he was nine, becoming the greatest genius in the city.

And the drama was … the four of them had actually been together since young. As a matter of fact, they were actually sworn brothers and sister, while Feng Luotian was taking the lead as the big brother of the group.

Despite that, ever since Ying Lizhua was granted a title as ‘the greatest genius in the city’, he also aimed to become the greatest genius in the world. With such an ambition, he could disregard anything that would obstruct his path, and one of those things was Feng Luotian himself.

While Mei Yue’er was awoken at ten and Sun Wuji at eleven, even though Feng Luotian was already fourteen, he had no sign of being capable of doing so.

Naturally, Ying Lizhua did not wish to stay together with someone who would eventually drag him down, so he left the group and began to train on his own.

And for some reason, Ying Lizhua constantly bullied Feng Luotian for being a cripple. As for Feng Luotian himself, also for some reason, he did not seem to mind one bit of his bad brother’s action.

Alas, the other brother and sister could not understand any of this, they closely stuck to Feng Luotian and always protected him from being bullied by Ying Lizhua.

Already familiar with such a lineup, Ying Lizhua did not hold back and answered Mei Yue’er with an even more sarcastic remark: “Here comes the babysitter!! You know what? If you focused all your time to train, you would already surpass me and become the top of the class by now.”

With his talent, although Ying Lizhua looked down on all cultivators in the same generation, he still knew that there was another genius within the group who could rival his aptitude. Moreover, he preferred that there was at least one person to compete with, otherwise, it would be awfully boring if he would rank best all the time.

Seeing his rival always spent her time taking care of a cripple, wasting many opportunities to cultivate in the process, he would of course be upset. Ying Lizhua continued to harshly reprimand Mei Yue’er: “So, I’d like to suggest to you. Mind your own business, rather than taking care of that TRASH!!”

“You!!”

Her angry expression contorted her beauty slightly as Mei Yue’er balled her fists. But before she charged at Ying Lizhua, a hand pressed down on her shoulder stopping her from doing so.

“Yue’er, it’s fine.”

It was Feng Luotian who stopped Mei Yue’er from attacking Ying Lizhua.

But that was not only unable to make Ying Lizhua feel grateful but also urged him to continue his insult.

“Right, right!! Little Mei, you should listen to the great … God’s … Crippled … Son.”

“Ying Lizhua, you bastard!!”

The energy was burst out of Mei Yue’er’s body in rage.

Not only her but Sun Wuji also could not hold his anger while listening to this prick continuously insulting his brother in front of him. So, he released his inner energy ready to beat this guy to the ground.

The so-called ‘God’s Crippled Son’, was the title people gave Feng Luotian only when they were talking behind his back. Yet, today Ying Lizhua was throwing it onto his face.

“Brother Sun!! Yue’er!! It’s fine, really.”

Feng Luotian, with his hand on her shoulder, applied more force onto them to signal her to stop.

While both Mei Yue’er and Sun Wuji stopped their advance, their eyes were still filled with fury as they are looking at her target. Right then, a power came down upon the conflicting four along with a light cough.

“Ahem … you all have finished the training, I presume?”
