Chapter 33: Mindset

Xiang Qiang noticed that after he introduced himself, the way Master Qi looked at him seemed a little odd.

“That’s right, we found out that you are a master of metaphysics. After some discussion with the higher-ups, we are inviting you to join us,” Xiang Qiang handed a document with an official seal to Qi Yan, “This is our terms and conditions, please read it carefully.”

Qi Yan took the document and saw that there were all kinds of benefits stated. He couldn’t stand it any longer. The conditions were too good to be true!

“Sorry, I’ve never heard of such a department in the government, and I don’t know any masters of metaphysics,” Qi Yan shoved the document back into the middle-aged man’s hands, “If you say such strange things again, I’ll call the police…”

Xiang Qiang did not expect that he would be rejected so quickly and that he would be treated as a liar, so he hurriedly explained, “Mr. Qi, please believe us, we are definitely not messing you. If you don’t believe me, we will connect you with Master Qian. He is our advisor and holds the rank of a director.”

“Master Qian?” Qi Yan looked suspiciously at the middle-aged man in front of him, “You mean Master Qian Chengru?”

When he went to the ancestral house of the Cen family last time, Qian Chengru was among them. However, Qi Yan was not familiar with these famous masters, so they didn’t say much to each other. He didn’t expect these people to know that he had contact with Master Qian.

“That’s right,” Xiang Qiang said when Qi Yan finally responded. He lowered his head and video called Qian Chengru.

After a while, Master Qian’s voice was heard from the other end, “Xiao Xiang, why did you contact me at this time?”

“Master Qian, I’m sorry to disturb your lunch break.” Xiang Qiang glanced at Qi Yan, “We are at Master Qi’s house right now, and Master Qi seems to have misunderstood us. We have no choice but to call you.”

“Oh, Master Qi.” Master Qian, who was still lying lazily on a big bed in the video, immediately sat up straight, “Give the phone to Master Qi, and I’ll talk to him.”

As soon as Xiang Qiang heard this, he hurriedly handed his phone to Qi Yan.

Qi Yan saw that the person in the video was really Master Qian, so he took the phone and opened the door to let the three people in. If they were heard by the neighbors, maybe the aunties would start gossiping again, “There is a young man on the 7th floor. He looks young, but he is spreading superstitions”.

The three men from the Special Task Force did not disrespect Qi Yan because of his age. Instead, they were very careful and polite. After entering Qi Yan’s house, they put on shoe covers and sat on the sofa without looking around. They seemed to understand the rules of the masters.

“Master Qian, long time no see.” Qi Yan opened the refrigerator, took some drinks out and put them on the coffee table. He pretended not to see the printed pajamas on Master Qian’s body and signaled them to have a drink.

“Yes, I haven’t seen you in a while,” Master Qian laughed, and his spiritual air was completely ruined by the pajamas, “I heard from the Special Task Force that they contacted you?”

Qi Yan looked back at the three people who were sitting on the sofa, and nodded, “Master Qian, what is going on?”

“Don’t be nervous, this organization is under the jurisdiction of the national security department, not a scam,” Master Qian explained what they did, which was to study Feng Shui and deal with supernatural events that might harm national security.

After listening to what Master Qian said, Qi Yan believed that the organization was indeed a secret branch under state control that could not make public appearances. However, he still had doubts in his heart. There were so many people in the entire country, why did they come to him?

Seeing that the video call between the two masters had ended, the three members of the Special Task Force put down their drinks, and looked at Qi Yan eagerly, waiting for his reply.

“Sorry, I misunderstood you just now.” Qi Yan returned the phone to Xiang Qiang, who took it with both hands and shook his head,: “It’s alright. We understand that ordinary people won’t believe this kind of thing. “

Their overly attentiveness made Qi Yan a little uncomfortable. He coughed dryly and said, “There are many masters in the country, you don’t really need me, do you?”

“Master Qi, we’ll be honest. When we learned that you went to the Cen family’s ancestral house to look at the Feng Shui, we began to pay attention to you,” Xiang Qiang said with a wry smile, “There are fewer and fewer masters with real skills and they are getting older. The younger generation is less interested in learning this, so it seems that the art will die out soon.”

What he did not explicitly say was that China was rich in natural resources. Since China opened up the economy, it had become more developed. As the country soared, there would be external forces that wanted to destroy it and cause chaos among the Chinese people. It was still fine at the moment with a few masters guarding the country, but when these masters were no longer here, and their skills were not passed on to the younger generation, what would they do then?

Most masters were living in seclusion in the mountains while those who were out there telling fortune were scammers. There were only a handful of masters who had integrity, good intentions and real skills.

Qi Yan never thought that there would be such an organization in the country. He wanted to live freely and help others along the way. Joining an organization was really not in line with his way of living.

“Sorry, I don’t think I’m suitable for such a serious job,” Qi Yan said tactfully, “It’s important for me to live freely, so…”

The people in the Special Task Force didn’t give up, and explained to Qi Yan the benefits of joining. Anyone who was part of the organization would enjoy preferential treatment with many opportunities to grow. If they made a huge contribution, they would be further promoted. The state would not restrict their freedom too much. In case of emergency, they would also provide help from other divisions.

For many ordinary civil servants, it’s really difficult to be in a high position, but this was easily achieved by being part of the Special Task Force. As long as Qi Yan was willing to join them, he would definitely have a good life.

However, despite their hype, Qi Yan still did not agree to their invitation.

For an unfamiliar organization, Qi Yan would never agree to any of their demands easily, even though they had proved that they were genuine.

After Xiang Qiang and the others were rejected by Qi Yan, they were a little disappointed, but not too much. In their opinion, a master with real skills would not be easily tempted by their benefits, so it’s not surprising that he rejected them.

Because of their work, the more they knew about these masters’ abilities, the more they respected them. Even though Qi Yan rejected them, they still politely said goodbye and left some gifts.

They gave him two fruit baskets, which looked like they were bought from a nearby shop in the community.

He picked a bunch of grapes from the fruit basket, washed them, and put them in a bowl. Qi Yan lay on the sofa with the bowl in his arms, watching TV while eating grapes. When it was dinner time, he ordered takeout.

About half an hour later, there was a knock on his door. When he opened it, a young man wearing a cap and black-rimmed glasses was standing outside the door.

“Sir, this is your meal,” the young man smiled and handed him his food, “Bon appetit.”

“Thanks.” When Qi Yan took the bag, he accidentally touched the back of the young man’s hand and found that his body temperature was abnormally high. “Are you sick? “

“It’s alright, I have a little cold.” The boy’s skin was dark, probably because he was out delivering food often, so he got sunburnt.

“Wait a moment,” Qi Yan turned around and took out an unopened bottle of drink from the refrigerator and handed it to the young man. “After you’re done, go see the doctor.”

The young man declined it a few times, but eventually took the bottle of drink, turned around and hurried downstairs.

The young man rode the electric bike out of the community and went home after delivering the two remaining meals. He put half a bottle of drink on the table, touched his waist, and took out a small knife.

He stared at the knife that was still in its sheath, and was slightly glad that he didn’t act rashly today. He turned his head and glanced at the half-empty bottle of drinks on the table. Perhaps because of the customer’s smile, or because of his caring words, which made him dismiss the idea.

The young man touched the handle of the knife and pulled the knife out. However, only the knife handle was in his hand, and the rest of the blade was still in the sheath.

He was silent for a while, then threw the knife into the trash can. The quality of the items in the dollar shop was so unreliable.

But at this moment, he felt that he was fortunate to have met a gentle customer and changed his mind. Otherwise, he would be in handcuffs by now.

It only took a small step to go on the wrong path. He was lucky…

After Qi Yan finished eating his food, he gave a good review to the restaurant, and praised the professional attitude of the delivery boy. After putting down the phone, Qi Yan threw the packaging into the trash can, turned on the computer and started gaming. He boasted to his friends in the game that he had saved a lost boy, but unfortunately no one believed him.

He sighed, the world of masters was so lonely as no one could understand him.

At this moment, the phone rang. He picked it up and saw that it was from Cen Baihe. “Baihe, you’re not asleep at this time?”

“I’ll go in half an hour,” Cen Baihe heard the lightness in Qi Yan’s voice and asked, “What good thing happened?”

As soon as he heard Cen Baihe’s question, Qi Yan wanted to tell him everything, so he paused the game and began to boast his achievement to Cen Baihe. It’s not that he didn’t want to be known after doing good deeds, it’s just that there were too many troubles that came after, so he had to remain low-key and mysterious. Now that he finally had someone whom he could talk to, he felt that the whole world was brighter.

Cen Baihe listened quietly to Qi Yan as he talked about what happened in the afternoon. He would ask a question from time to time to make Qi Yan’s even more excited, but when he heard that Qi Yan actually opened the door to give the man a drink, he couldn’t help but frown, “What if he entered the house and attacked you with a knife?”

“Don’t worry, he wouldn’t be able to get the knife out. Even if he did, he would be the one begging for mercy.“ Those who dared to cause trouble in a master’s own home would not end up well, unless they were more powerful than the master.

The moment the delivery boy took the drink, Qi Yan saw that his life changed. Originally, he was a loner. His mother passed away early, his father was unkind. His fate dictated that he would be in prison and die alone. However, now he would have a better life ahead.

“I’ve said before that heaven is not cruel. It all depends on your mindset,” Qi Yan sighed, “But there are too few people who take charge of their life. Instead, many have gone astray.”

“Maybe they just don’t want to,” Cen Baihe didn’t like to hear Qi Yan sigh, “You don’t have to feel sorry for these people.”

“It’s not them that I feel sorry for, but the innocent people who have been hurt by them,” Qi Yan turned to look at the character in his game, and suddenly became angry. Wasn’t he just away for a short while, who killed him?

Opening the list of enemies, Qi Yan snorted, lowered his head and muttered a few words.

In a corner of a certain city, a person who was going on a killing spree in the game suddenly felt his stomach hurt as though it was stabbed by a knife. He couldn’t care about the game anymore. He went to the toilet 5-6 times before the pain subsided a little.

But when he finally recovered from his diarrhea, his account was already suspended.

“F***!” As soon as he cursed, his stomach hurt again, he immediately dropped the mouse, and hurried to the toilet.

Qi Yan quit the game and jumped into bed. He said to Cen Baihe, “By the way, the pouch with the character “blessing” sewn on it is blessed. Although the effect is not as effective as the talisman, it is good to have it on you for protection. Tell your family not to throw it away.”

After a short silence, Cen Baihe’s voice was heard again, “I might have to ask you to draw a new one.”

He didn’t say the reason, but Qi Yan understood that the Cen family might have thrown it away after it helped them evade a disaster, thinking that it was no longer useful. “Okay, I’ll draw a few more when I have some free time.”

“Hmm.” Cen Baihe responded with a smile, “Thank you.”

“We are friends. No need to say thank you,” Qi Yan said with a smile. He didn’t mind it at all

After the two hung up, Qi Yan looked at the call duration of more than 20 minutes and wondered why did Cen Baihe call him just now?

It seemed like they were just chatting for no reason?

Forget it, it’s normal for friends to chat. If he only contacted him because something was up, then they were no longer friends, but he was just working for him.

Yang Tao’s parents found Qi Yan’s house the next day. The husband and wife were carrying two large bags. They felt that it’s pity that they didn’t have eight hands and couldn’t carry more bags.

When Qi Yan went to the Yang family house to look at their Feng Shui last time, Mrs. Yang happened to be away, so this time she was meticulous with her appearance. She even got up early in the morning and had her hair done.

“Master Qi lives here?” Mrs. Yang looked at the apartment with the door number 704, “As expected of a master, they didn’t care much about superficial things.”

“That’s not right,” Mr. Yang sighed, “If Master Qi hadn’t changed our family’s Feng Shui, our company would not be doing so well. When you see him, don’t look down on him because he is young. Master Qi is…” He gave a thumbs up.

Mrs. Yang rolled her eyes at him and knocked on the door softly.

As soon as the door opened, Mr. Yang said in high spirits, “Master Qi, thank you for saving our son. Without you, he would be in danger this time.”

However, it was not Qi Yan who stood at his door, but a man who looked very familiar.

Mr. Yang was a little embarrassed. But three seconds later he was even more embarrassed because he recognized who this person was.

It was Fifth Master Cen’s special assistant, Liang Feng!

There were so many people who wanted to befriend Assistant Liang!

“Hello, Mr. Liang.” Mr. Yang calmed his expression, trying to make himself smile more naturally.

“Hello,” Liang Feng looked at the husband and wife who were holding a lot of bags, “You are also here to see Master Qi?”

Mr. Yang noticed the word “also” and nodded, “Master Qi is our savior. I’m here to thank him.”

“Who’s here?” Qi Yan came out of the kitchen, holding a tray with a tea set in his hand. He glanced at the door, “Mr. Yang?

“Master Qi,” Seeing Master Qi, Mr. Yang couldn’t care about Liang Feng anymore. He approached Qi Yan joyously, and bowed to him again and again, “Master Qi, we will not forget your kindness!”

Qi Yan guessed that he was here for Yang Tao, so he invited the couple in, and put the tray on the coffee table.

Liang Feng noticed that in the tray, there were exactly four teacups.

Was it a coincidence, or was it expected?
