At 7:10 p.m., the sky of the summer night was still smeared with light shades of white. The stars adorned the skies as the crescent moon shone on the land; the trees then seemed to grow long shadows as they shook in the evening breeze.
The car was driving towards the tree-lined avenue of the Military guesthouse. The bright headlights illuminated the way forward, and officers in their uniform could be seen walking on either side.
The guard instead stepped on the brakes; he said to Supreme Commander Xia: “Supreme Commander, there’s someone ahead.” Based on the guard’s judgment, he was pretty sure they were looking for the Supreme Commander.
The Mayor of Fujun Town was currently talking with Ye Zhifan, “They all live here, we’ve taken a shortcut so we definitely would reach here sooner than the Lieutenant General. Bureau Director Ye, your matter here is much more important; we can’t afford to delay your urgent business.”
Yet another official who served as a hatchet man for Ye Zhifan.
“You’ve done well today; you can rest assured for the town’s financial approval; I’ll tell the people in the city to approve Fujun town ahead of time. After all, this is my hometown.” Ye Zhifan thanked, then continued in a concerned tone, which plucked at the heartstrings of the Mayor, “I only demand one thing from the local officials, to work for the people, to seek truth from facts, not be greedy, not to seize and do good things.”
Nodding his head continuously, the Mayor of Fujun Town was almost going to beat his chest in guarantee, “Bureau Director Ye can rest assured, we have always remembered the clean way of doing things you have left behind, we wouldn’t dare to overstep our boundaries.”
“Sir can investigate. However you like it, it’ll be fine even if you send one of the Disciplinary Inspectors. I can guarantee wholeheartedly, and I absolutely didn’t do anything that would bring harm to the people.”
Inside the car, Ye Jian’s pupils turned cold as she swept a glance towards the front; she said towards Supreme Commander Xia: “Supreme Commander, letting me and Captain Xia go over there would do.” This guy still refuses to give up his evil plans and was now even blocking people at the gates!
Supreme Commander Xia smiled: “There’s no need, guard, drive over.” He wanted to take a look for himself at how the Director of a Construction Bureau dared to block his car.
“I’ll make them come down.” The guard obeyed the orders from the Supreme Commander and also called over the other guards who had arrived this afternoon.
Ye Jian was starting to get anxious, “Supreme Commander, Ye Zhifan wouldn’t give up so easily; if you go there, he’ll probably cling onto you.”
“Little fox.” Xia Jinyuan smiled: “If he dared cling over, a correspondence sent by the military would appear in the offices of the Yunnan Provincial Government tomorrow. Follow me off the car later; there’s no need to care too much.”
Something like this couldn’t even be counted as a trivial matter; it absolutely wasn’t something that mattered.
Ye Jian gently bit down on her lower lip; all this time, she had never wanted to bother Xia Jinyuan because of her own affairs; in the end…, Ye Zhifan directly went after Supreme Commander Xia!
Three other guards walked out of the guesthouse with stern looks; their appearance made Ye Zhifan delighted… these guards look like those standing beside the Lieutenant General in the day.
The headlight shone over; Ye Zhifan couldn’t help but to squint his eyes; he then noticed the black car was slowly driving over. When it got closer, he recognized the driver as the guard who was present during the day, and Ye Zhifan revealed his smile unwillingly.
Without a doubt, the person in the car is the Lieutenant General.
The car wasn’t turned off; Xia Jinyuan led the way and pushed the car door open. Ye Zhifan, who was above the steps, walked down in a rush; the car didn’t even turn off its ignition. Clearly, it was going to leave immediately after stopping for a moment, so he must hurry up!
However, before he had gotten close, the three guards immediately stepped forth, two of them blocked Ye Zhifan’s path as they sternly said: “Do not approach!”
“I’m sorry, I would like to speak with Lieutenant General…” Ye Zhifan lowered his tone as he explained; he then noticed Ye Jian getting out of the car from the back door. As if the words in his mouth were suddenly broken apart, he immediately stopped talking, as he stared increasingly furiously at Ye Jian.
