Chapter 989: That Was Close, That Was Close

Pigeon listened as his brother was grinding his teeth, speaking behind him. He couldn’t stifle his chuckle: “Bro, it’s true you’re on dog-s*** luck, encountering the time when ST was playing tug-o-war with the government, and you were able to rest for a couple of days. However…”

Several shadows swept past their eyes. Pigeon held his tongue, and at the same time, he pushed his hand down, signaling K7 to hide.

The running ST mercenaries were all wearing military boots. With the dim illumination of the night sky, Pigeon squinted his eyes and made a very subtle smirk, “The government troops have entered, looks like they’ll butt heads with ST. Brother, even if you want to die this time around, you’ve lost your chance.”

“When did I ever say I wanted to die?” K7 suppressed the itchiness in his throat, then he blocked the top of his Adam’s apple with his fist, entirely suppressing the itchiness that made him want to cough. “Keeping this life with me, I still have plenty of things I want to accomplish.”

Having the resolve to die doesn’t mean they should do it. Your country trained you wasn’t for you to always think about how to die, even if you end up as a captive, as long as there was a sliver of hope, you have to do everything you can to survive.

K7 had never abandoned himself, but he also did not intend for his comrades to return.

That’s why, when he heard that oh so familiar secret code, his rational thought processes stopped for about three seconds… they’ve already figured their way into ST’s interior! Why did he send out a fake message, that’s because he knew he was inside ST’s headquarters!

Never had he thought that after sending the message, they would still come for him nonetheless!

“That’s what we call brave! If you really died, then we’d have come for no reason.” Pigeon gestured, signaling for K7 to watch the window. He would deal with whatever came through the door.

Someone was heading towards them and with goddamn flashlights moreover.

The footsteps walked past the door. Pigeon, who hid behind the door, let out a soft sigh. That was close… the place they were hiding in wasn’t a great spot, and there were multiple corpses littered inside…

The window was the best surveillance spot. After his alarms turned off, Pigeon returned to K7’s side once again, barely managing to recover his breath. K7’s usual cold voice scraped past his ear, “How many of our brothers came?”

“Including little Ye, no more no less, still seven of us. J7 was quite unlucky, his buttocks and below were hurt. The ligament in his thigh needed fourteen stitches. He begged to come no matter what, but the brother staying behind to take care of him gave him a backhand chop and knocked him unconscious,” Pigeon answered in the darkness as he stared outside. Inside the ill-lit room, the only thing that could be seen as the cold light shimmering in his eyes, “Never abandon, never give up. That was the oath us brothers had made under the war banner. The only thing that we didn’t do was smear our blood for the oath.”

K7 laughed; he had finally laughed in the darkness; it wasn’t just a slight twitch of his lips, the cold smirk. Instead, it was a laughter that came from the depths of his heart, “Never abandon, never give up. Thanks, brother.”

No matter how rugged their path was, how tall the mountains were, how dangerous their path was, with each deep or shallow step they took, they brought the edge of the snowy mountaintops. They weren’t afraid to die in foreign lands and came here just like that because of the oath they made under the banner once a time ago.

Thank you! A lifetime’s comrade, thank you! A lifetime’s brother!

Pigeon turned around and laughed with K7. His low rumbling voice had dropped to a slightly refraining, deeply affectionate tone, “What’s there to thank me for? This is what we call till death do us part! Do you understand? If you really wanna thank someone, then you should properly thank Ye Jian, that young lass…” Pigeon paused as if he was thinking how to describe Ye Jian. After thinking for a moment, he blurted out, “That young lass is not ordinary, ah.”

It doesn’t matter what language he used to describe her; it doesn’t matter how much more complex and pompous he could make his words; he would still be unable to describe her. No words could voice out the admiration he had towards her; he could only describe what he was thinking with three words ‘is not ordinary.’
