41–What You Don’t Know

[Write about a secret you’ve kept from someone else or how you feel when you know someone is keeping a secret from you.]

Secrets, eh? I don’t often keep any. I’m pretty open about most things…except my opinions and feelings that would cause unnecessary harm or too big of a misunderstanding.

            For example: “I don’t care.”

I know SO MANY PEOPLE that would hear that, immediately feel hurt by the statement, and then quietly sulk, because the connotation around the term “I don’t care” became a negative dismissal at some point instead of just meaning, “I’m not invested in this subject” as a neutral statement. If I’m told by someone that they don’t care about what I’m talking about, I’ll ask them why or change topic. If they simply don’t want to converse, then they should just tell me! It’s that simple with me, but not with so many others.

That’s why I either indulge the other party by letting them go on about whatever the subject is, or word my apathy politely.

“I don’t feel like chatting at the moment.” Or “I’m currently busy and will let you know when I’m not.”

But even those can be too much for some people! They just take everything that isn’t positive as though it’s meant to be negative! If they ask to chat over a Discord call and I decline, it feels like they take it as a personal rejection of THEM!

Also, I don’t have random conversations because “I feel like chatting”. I have conversations with a purpose and will avoid random ones. If someone wants to rant about a topic, they should just tell me so and if I can, I’ll listen. But if they ask, “Wanna chat?” I’ll always say no.

Anyway, back to the topic of secrets…

Damn, I really can’t think of anything because I keep so few.

I suppose some would say that I’m just not an interesting person ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
