HC ch19

It was in a clear field on a slightly sloped hill. Too steep to farm on but too small to grow an orchard. It was a place a lesser noble in the city-owned and only used to gather the natural herbs that grew on the grassy land. Very soon the value of this small space will change to unimaginable heights. Bastion stood with a spear behind him being used as a banner pole. The banner it was flying was the banner of his home, of Deep Hollow. For centuries this banner will remain in place as a reminder of the battle that once raged there.

It was predawn, the sun had barely risen as Bastion opened his eyes.

“ We do not have to do this you know.”

With his words, the reincarnator from the night before appeared alone.

“ You should not be here, monster. Go back to your dungeon.”

Bastion sighs and shakes his head.

“ That I can not do. We are a peaceful dungeon, who openly invite and trade with any that come with respect and peace. We can not allow unquestioned attacks on our mortal friends.”

This time the reincarnator frowned.

Dear Readers. Scrapers have recently been devasting our views. At this rate, the site (creativenovels .com) might...let's just hope it doesn't come to that. If you are reading on a scraper site. Please don't.

“ That is not the story we were told.”

Bastion uncrossed his arms and put his right on his sword hilt.

“ Of course it is not.”

With a clank Bastion’s sword was returned to his sheath, Behind him appeared a pillar of ice. In the ice appeared a black-dressed woman. A look of concentration was on her face, not even realizing she was now dead. The reincarnator looked calm but his voice was not as.

“ How?”

Bastion chuckled.

“ One it was obvious, and two, I’ve been performing mass scan here ever since I arrived.”

The reincarnator took a moment to calm himself. Of course, this dungeon monster was able to use continuous mass scans. He should not expect anything less from a legendary class dungeon monster. Via his party chat, he gave his orders and prepared for battle.

Bastion drew his sword and took a stance. The first thing he did was raise his shield to block the strike of the reincarnator. At the same time, he moved his sword to intercept the fencer girl coming to him at that side. On the other, he used his tail to bat the berserker who was about to drop her axes onto his head. Between the reincarnator and the fencer, in the opening caused between them, Bastion uses a concussion breath against the fireblast coming for his face. Causing the splash to hit his frontal two attackers. The last attack he received he could not block except for the magic barrier he formed by using his wings as shields. Of the five combined attacks, only the archer was able to even strike him, and it was on his reinforced wing.

With the berserker down after the first second, Bastion pressured the fencer. As a monster, and of a much higher rank, he forced a parry on her, causing her blade to reach high. Slipping the reincarnator’s blade in the repercussions of the fireblast shockwave hitting him, Bastion drove his blade into the fencer’s neck. This however gave room for the others to attack him. The mage had to channel her next spell, the berserker was still getting up, so that left the reincarnator and the archer.

Bastion quickly turned as the reincarnator charged toward him. Rage in the reincarnator’s eyes. Not having time to retrieve his sword, Bastion left it to use his right hand to grab the wrist of the reincarnator’s overextended arm. With his left he swung his shield to strike the coming arrow from the archer. Instead of sending the arrow back toward its original sender, Bastion sent it toward the barbarian. The look of surprise and shock as it pierced through her skull was only matched as it went straight for the one hiding in the cover of the trees. Without even having the opportunity to do anything, Bastion finished the group’s healer off by sending the archer’s arrow through the tree she was hiding behind. The tip of the arrowhead coming out as a pillar of ice-encased her and the tree.

“ You Ba***rd!!!”

This was before Bastion gripped the wrist harder, pinching the reincarnator’s hand off and catching it and blade in his left. His next move was to kick the reincarnator in the gut and send him flying into the mages next, overcharged, spell. With the new sword, he threw it, along with the still gripped hand, at the archer’s chest. Pinning her to a tree as an ice pillar encasing her as well.

“ Silence field.”

Suddenly all sound stopped in the area around Bastion. The spell he just cast prevented the mage from escaping as he threw his shield like a freebie, severing her head and the shield in ice a moment later. He then looks to the last of the party still alive.

“ We did not want this, we are a peaceful core, but that does not mean we lack the means to defend ourselves.”

Bastion arrives at the coughing reincarnator. His back was blown apart so badly that his internal organs past his ribs were showing, actively healing the damage that was done. Bastion kicks one of the arms the other was used to raise themselves up and puts a foot to the side of their head.

“ Your god always hated my god, so I do not blame you, an agent of your god. May Krypt judge you.”

As the sun began to shine behind the dragonkin, the reincarnator’s head was turned into a smashed grapefruit.
