Summoned Heroes III

“Are we really going to fight the demons, Ryu-nii?” The moment Ayumi sits on the chair next to the bed, she immediately asks the question that plagues her mind since. In response to her, Enryu smiles before placing his hand on top of her head as he mess her hair and says, “Of course not, silly.”

“But at the dining hall earlier…” At her words, Enryu fell into silence as he recalled the event in the dining hall a moment ago.

“The world was once peaceful, no ongoing war or conflict that brought nothing but unfortunate outcomes. Even the kids could play anywhere, so long as they didn’t get lost in the forest. Even if it happens, they were easily found by the use of magic. There’s nothing to fear, every day is as peaceful as it gets. However, that was all in the past now. Everything, it all started from a certain event, the event that brought catastrophe to not just humans but to the whole world.” The princess sighed with a sad smile on her face.

“Monsters. No one knows where they came from, but the moment they appeared, a small village was already blazed to the ground. Nothing was left other than ashes and buildings in ruins.” The princess paused for a moment as she watched the reaction from the students in silence before continuing. As expected, most of them have a frown on their face at the mention of death.

“A country immediately mobilized some of their own army and took off. Though they managed to slay the monsters, it wasn’t without a casualty. Only five out of thousands survived… plus, just as they thought that was the last of them, a demon, a monster of higher caliber than anything they ever seen, appeared leading hundreds of monsters close to an Empire.”

“Demon..” one of the students muttered in disbelief.

“It was at that moment they realized something, somewhere in the world, there exists evil that gave birth to these monsters. It was Demon God, the most vile entity known to the world. With the help of Gods, humanity finally pushed Demon God and it’s kin to the corner of the world. However, that was it. Despite big numbers of casualties, that was all we could do.”

“But, just as we thought it was hopeless, a Pope of God of Sacred Light stated, Heroes! What we need the most right now is God Chosen Ones! Yes, that was all of you here. With the power God has given to you, we now have the chance to slay the evil that plagues the world!”

The room turned silent the moment the princess finished her words. It was as to be expected, nothing is free in the world, no matter what world it is.

“No,” after a moment of silence, the teacher finally spoke. Just like her students, she was also kidnapped to this unknown world. She had been quiet the whole time, only now did she finally speak out her opinion after listening to their story.

“But—” “No. You just abruptly kidnapped my students and me to this world, and now you’re telling me you’re going to send them to their death? In the first place, how can we be sure that you’re not lying to us? We also don’t have any responsibility to help you. Send us back to our world, though you called us heroes, me and my students are just normal people in our world.”

“But…we can’t do that.” The princess muttered.

“What?”

“We…can’t send you back, it’s a one way trip.”

“Are you kidding me?! I forgive you for the abrupt summon, but now you’re telling me you can’t send us back?” The teacher stood up from her seat in shock before glaring fiercely at the timid princess. The students were also in commotion upon hearing the fact that they could never go back to their world.

‘It goes exactly as I thought, damn it. How in the world can they summon a group of us, but couldn’t send us back?’ Enryu thought after the end of flashback. He still remembers what the princess said before she left the scene, ‘It was God of Sacred Light that summoned all of you to this world, if there’s a way for you to return, that would be Him.’

‘God of Sacred Light, huh.’ Enryu frowned as he thought about it. In their previous world, God is something akin to a symbol for uniting people and giving people the support they needed, not an actual existence that looked down to mortal from above the heaven. But in this world, God apparently is the real deal. Wouldn’t he be smite by lightning if he were to ask God to send him back to their world?

Most importantly, can he even trust her words, the kidnapper? Enryu shook his head before falling his gaze onto his little sister as determination filled his eyes.

“We will return to our world. No matter how small the chance is, I, your brother will find it. This I promise. So you don’t need to worry, sleep for now. You must be tired,” He announced as his right hand softly pat Ayumi on the head before pointing toward bed with his other hands. Ayumi nodded her head in response before she slowly stood up from her seat, and stepped toward the empty bed.

“Ryu-nii isn’t going to sleep?” Ayumi asked when she saw her brother sitting on the chair close to her bed. He smiles in response before saying, “I will, but later,” after all, he still didn’t trust the people of this world. How could he relax when he’s still in an unknown place with strangers that, most likely, hold power enough to kill him at any given time if they ever willed? After all, this is a fantasy world, a world where magic exists.

The moment he was summoned to this world, he had been feeling weird, as if something within his body had been unleashed from it’s seal, or maybe it was just his imagination. However, his instinct never lies, it’s the only reason why he was so cautious around the people of this world. Especially the princess, her smiles and behavior reek of ‘bad acting’.

He even caught her face flinching for a split second when the teacher was so adamant against the idea of making her students fight the demon. If he wasn’t paying close attention to her, he would’ve surely missed it.
