Yu Xiaolong walked towards the pool filled with blood.
It was a 15 diameter pool carved with runes, and there was a tiny whirlpool slowly swirling. The whirlpool was stirring up tiny waves towards the edges, making the blood flow and stir.
Yu Xiaolong knelt at the edge, using a mat made of some beast’s hide to protect his knees. He bent his head low and stretched his hands towards the blood. Upon taking a closer look, Yu Xiaolong noticed that the blood, which looked viscous from afar, is like the sands in the desert.
Each drop looked like grains forcefully repelling each other, even though they seemed to be attracting each other like magnets.
Yu Xiaolong submerged both of his hands right until his wrists. Just as he was about to turn to his mother to ask what to do next, Yu Xiaolong felt something tugging at his hands. It was pulling at his fingers, Yu Xiaolong stifled a laugh as it was making him ticklish.
The tugging continued until Yu Xiaolong felt something prick one of his fingers. A tiny wound appeared at the thumb of his right hand, but his blood didn’t flow into the pool.
At that instant, Yu Xiaolong felt his vision darken, and by the time he recovered. He found himself standing in a different place.
He found himself in a space surrounded by dunes formed by countless fist-sized red orbs. The orbs were piled haphazardly, with some stacked as high as 50 meters. Even the place where he was standing on is orbs.
Yu Xiaolong was still craning his neck to look around when he noticed a tall shadow-like being staring at him. The shadow had its arms crossed and was impatiently tapping its foot. It had no facial features but Yu Xiaolong swore he could see the irritation on its face.
” Great! You finally noticed me! You’ve been standing there like an idiot for a while now. ” The shadow snarked.
Yu Xiaolong was about to reply when the shadow cut him off.
” Now listen here, kid. I have a procedure to follow so just shut up and listen okay. ” The shadow said while pressing a finger to Yu Xiaolong’s lips.
It stared at him intently before finally saying ” Great! Welcome to the Blood Well, home to spiritual and demonic techniques, unique blood arts, and other mysterious pieces of knowledge. Yada yadda… ” with a clearly faked enthusiasm. ” Now that’s out of the way, tell me what you want kid. “
” What? ” Yu Xiaolong asked dumbfoundedly.
” What do you mean what? Tell me what you want and stop wasting my time. ” The shadow barked.
Irked by the shadow’s rude attitude, Yu Xiaolong let himself go and ran his mouth off.
” Can’t you be nicer? Who acts this rude to a five-year-old? Would it hurt to explain more? Tell me what I can get so that I can choose what I want. Explain those items to me too. ” Yu Xiaolong said while pointing a finger to the shadow’s face.
The shadow was appalled by Yu Xiaolong’s audacity. He sent a shockwave that scattered the orbs high up in the air, causing Yu Xiaolong to fall right to his butt.
” How dare you point your finger at my face! I haven’t been living my life so that some random brat can point and shout at me. ” The shadows fury made the space quake and the orbs collide.
Incessant booms rang around the space they were in, the shadow was lost in its fury that it kept cursing. It took a long while before it gained a semblance of calmness.
The orbs crashed down like a great tsunami, filling up the space that they were standing in.
” Very well, rude brat. Seeing that we can’t tolerate one another and you have absolutely no idea of what you want, the great me shall pick for you. ” the shadow said with a teasing look.
It waved its hand and a blood orb appeared in front of Yu Xiaolong.
” I believe that this should be befitting for the likes of you. Now then, Scram! “
The orb rushed at Yu Xiaolong’s chest, burying itself and knocking Yu Xiaolong out cold.
Meanwhile…
Yu Xiaolong’s mother saw her son slump headfirst into the blood well.
A visible vein bulged out of her temples, she gritted in her teeth in frustration. She was complaining ” I heard that the well spirit is quite a bitch but I never expected it to do this to a five-year-old. ” while preventing her son from having a literal blood bath.
She levitated her son into her embrace, thoroughly scanning him of any damage that might have been done to his spirit. Sensing that there wasn’t anything out of place, Yu Xiaolong’s mother breathed out a sigh of relief.
With Yu Xiaolong in her arms, She teleported to her husband.
Yu Xiaolong’s father was teaching Yu Heixue how to hunt when he felt the nearby space tremble.
The first thing he saw was the irritation plastered on his wife’s face. His vision soon caught of his son floating behind his wife. He remembered that Yu Xiaolong was supposed to be at the blood well today, then realized the reason why his son is currently unconscious.
The spirit in the blood well was known for being short-tempered and volatile. He had a similar experience back when he first accessed the well, even though it seems that it wasn’t as bad as what happened to his son.
He sent a pitying glance towards his son.
” Honey! Look at what our daughter caught. Isn’t she good? I know cause my daughter is the best. “
Yu Xiaolong’s father welcomed his wife with heaps of praises towards their daughter in his effort to improve her mood.
Yu Xiaolong’s mother quickly wiped away the scowl on her face. She turned her attention to a 3-meter tall rabbit that was being strangled by a giant eel cloaked with black steam.
” Well as expected of my daughter! ” She exclaimed in praise. ” Don’t kill it yet dear, let’s wait for your brother to wake up first okay? ” she followed.
