The female necromancer had run out of all options as the battle neared its end and she was the only one left. Nick rechecked with Rabial whether any other enemy mage or conjured creature was still alive. Once he had the answer, he asked.
“Do you want me to kill her?”
Rabial had other thoughts for now.
“I still need to ask her some questions. If I want you to kill her, I will immediately alert you.”
Nick indicated that he understood.
Rabial then turned towards the female necromancer and began with a simple question.
“What is your name?”
The female necromancer was aware that she was on the long-range mage’s radar and that she would meet the same fate as her fellow necromancers any second. Using spells and fighting had exhausted her magical energy to almost zero. She had no protection and was only slightly stronger than ordinary humans in terms of defensive ability now.
“My name is Lalia Nertev. I am a Middle-Ranked Prive Level 8 Necromancer of the ‘Unknown Coven Organization’.”
When he heard the words ‘Unknown Coven’, Rabial’s expression changed. He was familiar with this coven that had more than 400 necromancers as members. They were feared throughout the realm by many mages, as they were capable of creating undead creatures that could use magic. This battle was not over yet.
Rabial’s premonition proved correct within moments. Lalia’s face broke into a sudden smile, and the ‘rabbit’ battlemage’s defense mechanism kicked in because several fire-type spells from a distance of about 50-100 meters attacked him all at once. Rabial quickly formed a shield and started running as he whispered.
“Epsilon, they were not alone. There are more than 20 to 50 necromancers zeroing in on us at this moment. Kill every mage that you see including this female necromancer and escape. We will meet at Entrance Lake.”
Rabial did not halt his steps as he warned Nick and fixed a rendezvous point. Nick too did not reply and conjured more than five bullets, marking one of them at Lalia.
At this moment, Lalia was ecstatic; her support had arrived. As Rabial got busy defending himself from the intense spell attack, she took cover behind a thick tree. However, she would be too late to understand that this was of no consequence. Once Nick had marked a target, he could use his spell to shoot it even if the said target was in hiding.
As Lalia was going to move, the tree she had taken cover behind shattered, and an energy bullet found her, exploding her head. The female necromancer was dead.
Nick was satisfied with this result. As he was going to look for more targets, a fireball shot towards him. Either his shot at Lalia had exposed his location or the oncoming enemies had sensed his presence. He could not escape. However, instead of him, it was the fireball that exploded. The enemy’s sneak attack had met the resistance of Nick’s Passive Blood-Iron Magic Shield.
If this were still the same Nick who had lost his arm while battling an undead archer, he would probably be long gone. If this were another mage who was at a similar level as Nick, or even a few notches higher, at the very least, he would have dropped from the tree. But the present Nick was unscathed. Passive Blood-Iron Magic Shield’s protective power was at its maximum. This, though, did not mean Nick was in the clear.
“I need to move quickly.”
Nick began scanning the vicinity, looking for targets. He found one in less than a few seconds — a young mage in black robes. Without thinking twice, he targeted the mage with a Sonic Bullet.
The bullet intercepted the young mage’s basic shield protection and exploded his head.
The power of Sonic Bullets was too much for ordinary mages. As it entered, it destroyed.
Nick began climbing down the tree but along the way, more than three fireballs were shot at him. All of them were blocked by the Passive Blood-Iron Magic Shield.
As his feet hit the ground, Nick was on the run. He had to escape because his close-combat capabilities were not too strong, and he did not have many spells to use in this kind of magical battle.
There was not a single moment, in all this, when he was not under constant attack of fireballs or other energy bolt spells. The enemy mage was using simple spells to tire Nick out and deplete his magic energy shield. From this alone, Nick gathered that the enemy were not inexperienced battle-mages. They are not using any spells to kill him but instead were looking to trap him.
Nick concentrated his magical energy on his feet to speed up his run. The effect was immediate; his speed soared, and he started running like a maniac. Nick ran for five minutes and subsequently, the attacks on him ceased. Once he realized this, he stopped.
He climbed up a tall tree and used magical energy on his eyes to find the enemies that had attacked him. Soon enough, he saw more than 10 mages in black robes, indicating that they were necromancers. They were at the entrance of the Underbroom Cave, inspecting Lalia’s and other necromancers’ corpses.
The distance between Nick and the 10 enemy mages was more than 1200 meters. Even if escape was on Nick’s agenda, this distance was enough to encourage him to kill as many as possible. He took a deep breath and created 10 more Sonic Bullets. By now, Nick felt that he had slowed down and was tired. Indeed he lacked magical energy in comparison to others, at least in terms of quantum.
After creating 10 Sonic Bullets, he targeted each of the mages. But he still did not shoot.
“1200 meters is a long distance. The power of Sonic Bullet will not be enough to kill them in one hit. I should add something to this.”
As he thought of what he wanted to add, he was inspired again.
“Why did I not think of this earlier!”
The word in his head was basic and simple. It was ‘Poison’.
Nick closed his eyes and added knowledge and imagination to ‘Sonic Bullet’.
‘Poison Sonic Bullet’
‘Knowledge – Sonic Bullet & Algorithm’ + ‘Cyanide’
‘Cyanide’ – Knowledge
Cyanide is a rapidly acting, potentially deadly chemical that can exist in various forms. It can be a colorless gas, such as hydrogen cyanide (HCN) or cyanogen chloride (CNCl), or a crystal form such as sodium cyanide (NaCN) or potassium cyanide (KCN).
As Nick created this venomous version of the spell, he smiled.
