‘Wave Radar’…. It was not long after Nick’s mind was set on adding ‘radar’ to complement his long-range spells, that he worked out the corresponding algorithm. Once done, he closed his eyes to focus and activate it immediately. Very soon, silent, colorless, and undetectable energy waves started radiating around him in circular shapes and motion.
The waves continued at a steady rhythm and Nick slowly opened his eyes. He realized that he was able to narrow down his senses, select specifically and target to a point where he could sense others without putting much effort or energy into it.
He could feel not only the creatures and living beings around him, but also other inanimate objects such as buildings, shapes, and structures in his surroundings.
The others cannot feel his energy as ‘Radio Waves’ was used in knowledge. With this spell, Nick basically had a visual sense of up to 500 meters in every direction and could track movements every three seconds, whenever the Wave Radar spell was active.
He familiarized himself with using the spell within minutes and then stopped. He was still in his office, and he used his ring to reach out to Rabial.
Rabial connected in two seconds and started talking.
“Hi, Epsilon”
Nick got to the point immediately.
“Are there any missions or field activities that I can undertake? Also, just as a reminder, I gave you the ‘Active Iron Magic Shield’ spell for the things you people did for me, so I am not expecting any kind of payment other than the first 50 Ether Stones as per our earlier deal.”
Rabial heard Nick out quietly without any reaction at this time. Right now, he was in a courtyard with several other Werfur beings. Once he got the book from Nick, that detailed the ‘Active Iron Magic Shield’ spell, he had headed straight to the Werfur Council Anderium Base. He explained what had transpired outside and also Nick’s progress in the research matter that was assigned to him.
The Werfur Council’s first reaction was deep skepticism towards Rabial’s words. They thought that he might have developed a friendly bias towards the human, so he was making him look good in front of them. But after testing the spell that the human named Nick, or the name Rabial gave to him – ‘Epsilon’, had created, they were shocked beyond belief.
Much like Rabial’s initial experience, they realized they did not know the adequate words to describe or even ballpark the level of this newly minted young mage.
One of the Werfur Council members, a female Werfur called Wailin, proposed to take Nick as a slave so that he will work for them.
However, not only Rabial but even other good-natured Werfurs instantly opposed Wailin’s suggestion of a forced approach.
“Wailin, we are not demons or evil humans that force people to do something for us! Your way of thinking leaves me disappointed and speechless.”
Wailin shook her head and did not counter. These words came from a male Werfur called Warin, who was the leader of the Werfur Council Anderium Base. Refuting his words was both unwise and pointless.
Warin deliberated a little at the situation they had at hand and started talking to Rabial.
“Has Epsilon indicated anything on what he wants to do in the future?”
Facing the Council Elder and leader, Rabial respectfully bowed a little and explained.
“My Leader, Epsilon made no qualms in stating that the 50 Ether Stones were not comparable to the value he can bring to us. He also said that he will not work as a basic worker of the Werfur race. Instead, he proposes to in a good relationship with us on equal terms. He wants to pursue a payment-based project for the things that he will do for us.”
Wailin sneered as she heard Nick’s thoughts as relayed by Rabial.
“Hmmph! Humans are always like this. Just because he created one spell, he has already become this arrogant.”
Warin finally had a look of dejection and said to Wailin.
“Wailin, from now on, you will not belong to the Werfur Council Anderium Base. I also do not want you to meet or have any kind of interaction with the human named ‘Epsilon’. If you choose to defy these instructions, the penalty will be death. You can try me if you like.”
All the other Werfur Council members gasped when they heard Warin’s authoritative words. The Werfur race was not like humans; in most aspects, they saw things as black and white. Warin had already warned Wailin on her questionable thoughts, not hiding his displeasure when she proposed to use Nick as a slave.
Instead of learning her lesson, she once again used words that provoked Warin and showed her deep-seated prejudice and even some amount of short-sightedness. Chances are that if Wailin showed any resistance or refuted Warin’s words even a little bit, it was reasonable to expect that he would deal her the death punishment on the spot.
Warin did not pay any attention to Wailin anymore. He shook his hands and created a yellow-colored document that was shining like gold.
“Give this document to Epsilon. If he accepts it, then he can stay with us for as long as he wants. If not, then he must leave this base immediately.”
Rabial’s eyes were literally shining when he looked at the golden document. Like most other council members at the moment, he had a pleased expression, because he knew the significance of this rare document.
He received it and finally answered Nick back by touching his ring.
“I am coming to your office in a moment.”

The Golden Document, better known as the Golden Agreement, was a deal that was used only when one branch of the Werfur Council was entering into an agreement with another branch or in situations where Werfurs were dealing with another race’s representatives that held the same amount of power and respect as them.
It was essentially a sign of goodwill, where the Werfur race was stating, in no ambiguous terms, that they respected the other party in the same way that they respected their own leaders. More importantly, it was a sign of friendship.
The document was important because almost all Werfur beings knew that the Golden Agreement can be created by Werfur Council leaders around the continent. But in the past 1500 years, no human individual or collective had the access, rights, or power to ink such an agreement.
It was symbolic of many things — particularly it showed that the Werfurs were extending sincere friendship to Nick (Epsilon) and that they would like for him to stay in the future.
