Chapter 52 – Summoning – Shortcomings

Nick was at the Underbroom Cave’s entrance, but he did not attempt to enter. He figured it was not the best decision to do so, considering the Underbroom Cave had secrets of its own.

He set up a small campsite and burned a fire. Instead of just chewing the dried meat as he did when he was hunting the mages, this time he cooked it to make it more palatable. As Nick enjoyed his little ‘picnic’, Rabial showed up, bringing more than 10 Werfur mages along with him.

Rabial smiled as he approached Nick. His group saw the corpses of Deep Water Organization’s members on their way here. They also had spies in the forest who watched the human mages, so they knew that more than 390 mages fled after they lost their leaders.

Rabial was happy because he knew that from now on, the Werfur Race would treat Nick differently. In the end, it all comes down to power. If one has power, his race or even moral beliefs were not important.

Epsilon constantly proved his intelligence and capability to do wonders even though he was just a new mage. Now with this mission completed, he showed the Werfur Race Anderium Base that he was not only good in research and intellectual matters, but he also had excellent combat skills—he was a one-man army.

The Werfur race did not like battles or violence. But as mages, most of them respected the power to defend and attack.

Epsilon defeated the Deep Water Organization and killed its leaders including its founder as well as over 110 mages, demonstrating his abilities.

Rabial did not think that even he was capable of achieving such a feat. He got closer to Nick and started talking.

“Good work, Epsilon. Take this space ring. Inside, there should be around 20,000–25,000 Ether Stones for your payment.”

Nick took the ring and checked its content. There were more than 20,000 Ether Stones in the ring. He accepted and moved the Ether Stones into his storage space ring.

With this new amount, he now had more than 2,20,000 Ether Stones.

This amount was enough for a mage to create a mid-level mage group such as the Deep Water Organization or build a low-level city, a high-level town, or other similar establishments.

In short, this was a significant sum of money for many organizations and people. Of course, in the eyes of the large magic organizations, this was not much of a deal at all.

For strong mages as well, this amount was sufficient only to buy some spells and nothing more.

Rabial started talking again. He noticed Epsilon was silent and that right now, he did not want to engage in any conversation.

“We will take care of things over here. I am sure you are tired. Go to the base and rest a little. In the next two to three days, we will have a new mission for you.”

Nick nodded and returned to the Anderium Base.

—-

Nick entered his room, and without any thoughts, he showered and got into his bed completely naked. Soon, he fell into a deep sleep.

He was very tired not only because of the magical energy exertion but also other factors. The battle itself, and other things such as a heavy mind after killing so many people in just five hours had its effects.

Not to mention that he had also leveled up very quickly. Considering this, it was only natural that he would feel fatigued out and needed to rest.

— Seven Hours Later —

Nick opened his eyes and looked around as he smiled. He got up from his bed and took a shower again to refresh himself.

After he ate some breakfast, he wore a new set of black clothes and walked towards his office.

As he entered his office, he first checked the papers on the table. There was nothing new that he could see except for a notification from Rabial. There were exploring the Underbroom Cave and did not find anything that they could understand. They needed a researcher, and they wanted to seek his help.

Nick had no problem with this and nodded.

“Now, it is time to create some summoning spells. I do need a close combat helper or helpers. After the summoning spell is over, I will look for an area-damage spell for fighting against large groups.

“Summoning, Area Damage Spell, Movement Speed—these are the three spells that I need the most at this time.”

Nick analyzed the previous battle and outlined his shortcomings. First of all, when it came down to a fight against more than one mage, in mid to close range, he was full of s***.

Yes, his shield could take punishment but what if enemy mages had spells that bypassed his shield or have strong offensive spells that shattered it completely.

He had no combat spells other than his bullets. He needed some kind of offensive spells in both short and middle ranges. He also needed spells that could create area damage, similar to that of a bomb.

Nick knew what kind of spells he could create. Having ‘knowledge’ was not the only thing when it came to creating new spells. Even if he had some kind of ‘big’ knowledge, if he was unable to feed the spell with the required magical energy, it was not plausible to use it anyway.

“For a summoning spell, I need a creature that is capable of defending me. So, a creature with robust defense and strong close-range fighting ability is needed. Like a swordsman of some kind.”

Nick inhaled a deep breath and ordered some Werfur maids to bring him books on summoning. With the Golden Agreement and Document between the Werfur Race and himself, his standing in the base changed completely.

He can now give orders to lower-level maids and Werfur mages. Also, Werfur maids and other Werfurs had respect and kindness in their eyes when they saw him.

When he first came here, everyone followed what Rabial asked them to do but they could not hide the animosity they felt towards him due to his human race.

This was not the case anymore. Most Werfurs already considered him a good friend and a strong mage.
