Chapter 97 – no More Friendship

Thinking about the 10,000 magical creatures headed towards the city, the guard was panicking but Nick smiled.

“It seems this place is not that boring.”

He thought this and then without waiting, he used his ring to reach Rabial.

Within seconds, the connection with Rabial sounded and Nick asked.

“Rabial, do you know anything about the monster horde that is about to attack Blue Tear City?”

Rabial answered.

“Yes, we do know about the situation. We have called back all our mages and warriors from the ground and we are now underground.”

Nick thought a little and asked another question.

“Do you know the reason why these creatures showed up like this?”

Rabial went quiet for a few seconds and then answered.

“It is because of the Lord of Anderium.”

This information confused Nick. Rabial realized most likely Nick had no context of what he was talking about and explained.

“The Lord of Anderium is no man or Werfur; it is a creature at a magical level higher than even Magister. It is basically the lord of monsters and creatures in the Anderium Forest. Due to the recent activities between the humans and other races, it felt animosity towards the humans and decided to attack the biggest and closest human settlement, which is the Blue Tear City.”

Nick’s mind turned very quickly on hearing this. He started talking.

“You know my view on humans, but in the end, I am human too and I am located in the Blue Tear City. I will use everything I can to defend the humans, at least the ones who are innocent and are caught in this for no fault of theirs.”

This response earned another silence at Rabial’s end. After a few seconds, he sighed and answered.

“I do not have any influence over you, Epsilon. Your power and knowledge, when it comes to magic and magical matters, is already at a level where you can do whatever you want by yourself. Naturally, you want to protect your race.”

Nick and Rabial were speaking like this for one reason — in the end, the ‘Werfurs’ who are ‘rabbits’ at their core and ancestry are classified as ‘creatures’. They were hence in the control of the Lord of Anderium.

It was not like they could not reject the Lord of Anderium’s orders to attack the Blue Tear City but there were two reasons they would not reject it. Both Rabial and Epsilon were painfully aware of this reality.

The first reason was that they were enemies with humans and had a mutual relationship of death and destruction with them.

The second reason was that Blue Tear City had given resources and contract to a human organization to occupy the Underbroom Cave which was rightfully their land.

The third reason for not attacking humans and the human empire was that they did not want to risk enmity with the Lord of Anderium, a being that was even higher than a Magister Level mage and stronger than the entire Werfur Base – Anderium.

These were also the exact reasons why Nick talked about protecting humans. He knew he would encounter Werfur mages in the upcoming battle. He was letting Rabial know that if the Werfur race and Rabial attacked the city, he would be attacking back to kill them.

The relations between the two were put to test and from the look of it, it had taken a turn for the worst.

Having heard Nick out, Rabial rushed to Leader Warin’s courtyard to relay the information.

“Lord Warin, I have news from the Golden Document Holder – Epsilon.”

Warin snorted and looked at Rabial in the eyes.

Rabial knew why Leader Warin felt indignation. He continued with his report, nonetheless.

“Epsilon said that even though he is a friend to us, if the Werfurs attacked humans, he would do everything to protect them, even if it meant killing other Werfur mages.”

Warin heard Rabial’s words and thought in his mind.

“I did not want this situation to ever happen.”

The friendship between Epsilon and the Werfur race was fruitful. From the looks of it, they had common interests and their relationship would increase even further in the future. But the world was unexpected and reality would hardly ever turn out as planned.

Not having heard a response from Leader Warin, Rabial continued with his concern.

“Lord Warin, he is still waiting for a response from me. As long as I give an uncooperative response to him, he will officially be our enemy. And with his portal teleportation, long-range magic attacks and who knows what kinds of powers and spells he created in three days I did not see him, we do not know what will be unleashed upon us.”

Warin got up from his seat and took a deep breath as he whispered.

“Domain – Dimensional Lock.”

With his spell, blue-colored energy radiated like a pulse and formed an invisible barricade.

“With this shield, at least, he cannot enter the Werfur Base. We do not have any choice in this matter, Rabial. The headquarters already gave us unquestionable orders to stand with the Lord of Anderium and that is what we are going to do. Convey him our last decision.”

For a second, Rabial was shocked but more than that, he felt broken in his heart. However, there was nothing he could do to stop things from turning out this way.

Without wasting any time, he said his last words to Epsilon.

“Epsilon, from now on, you and our Werfur race are not friends but enemies; your Golden Document is no longer valid; it has lost its effect.”

Nick was sitting on one of the stairs in the streets of Blue Tear City. He thought a little and answered.

“Things will get bloody and messy. I believe you will still be alive after everything ends.”

With these words, the connection between Rabial and Epsilon cut off. There was not much more to say between these two individuals anymore, anyway.

Without bitterness towards each other, the two had to battle to the death, because of matters of the races.

Nick did not like humans but this did not mean, he would stay idle and watch innocent humans die.
