Vol. 1: Chapter 7: The School Selection Event, Part 1

The school selection event was being broadcasted to the Great Human Imperium and in other parts of the Elden Conglomerate and the Void Hive.

Even those people at the forward camps watched through the magic screens.

The Elden Conglomerate and Void Hive’s school selection were already over a week ago and it was their turn to show off.

Two people arrived near the square and looked over.

“Look Lina, isn’t it much better to go here in person?! Haha, those idiots in the border are lazy enough to go here and don’t want to join in in the fun.”

“Sister Luna, it’s not like they don’t want to go here.”

“So what?! They’re just making up excuses. They just want to observe things far away and never experience them firsthand! What a bunch of cowards!”

Lina resigned. Her sister was like this all the time.

Back on the square center, a plump man stood at the podium.

“Good morning everyone. I am William Martin, one of the deans in the Great Magic School in Pandragea. I will be giving out the instructions for this year’s school selection.”

He wore a red mage robe adorned with various accessories attached to his shoulders. He was bald, and his almond-shaped eyes exuded a friendly aura.

“First, your mana core grades and dantian grades will be identified. There are 1,000 platforms here. The platforms have 9 rings that will light up. The more rings you lit up, and the brighter they are, your grade will be better.”

“Regardless of the result, you will then proceed to select your designated school and undergo the tests that each school has prepared. Of course, some of the Great Schools will be unavailable to you if you have too low of a mana core grade or dantian grade.”

“Those who will choose Martial Arts School or Weaponry School will be fighting a dummy to test their skills in physical or weapon-based combat. Your mana core grade should be at least 3, or your dantian grade at least 4.”

“Those who will choose the Magic School, your mana core grade should at least be 4. Furthermore, you can choose different situations to show off your skills with regards to mana manipulation.”

“For the Ancillary School, the tests will range from blacksmithing, pill concoction, and many others. Mana core grade must be at least 3.”

“For the Demonic School, your tests…”

William continued to explain the other test coverage for the other Great Schools.

“After choosing, you will then immediately proceed to your designated rooms where your tests will be carried out. Don’t worry, we have prepared a lot of test rooms and there’s no worry waiting. There will be teachers who will guide you to your rooms.”

“Alright, enough talking. Those who are in front, please make your way to the platforms where the analyzer devices are located. Just put your hand in the slot, gather your mana essence, and the device will activate. The description regarding your mana core grade and dantian grade will be displayed.”

The first 1,000 students hurried to the platforms. They were excited to know what their mana core grades were, and dantian grades for others.

A pink-haired girl excitedly went up a platform and inserted her hand into the slot. Her information was then displayed.

The 6 rings on the platform flashed with a bright light, and many students looked over.

“Oh Lina, look! A Prospect candidate! Let’s fight her later!”

Lina could not believe her sister. Did she want to fight that young girl?

“Sister Luna, she’s just a first-year student.”

“So what? She’s a Prospect like me. She should be able to fight, hehehe.”

Lina was regretting it now. She should definitely not have accepted her request of going back to the Imperium Capital City to observe the school selection.

“Who’s that?”

“I don’t know, but pretty sure another Prospect candidate.”

“It’s a girl. Wow!”

“Really? Does anybody know her name?”

“Brother, stop dreaming. You won’t get any chance with her.”

“Huh? What are you talking about?! I also have the chance to be a Prospect candidate so what’s wrong with knowing who she is?! We’re a good match! A good one!”

“Hah! What rubbish are you talking about? A Prospect candidate? A good match? You?! Very well then, how about you show us your ‘potential’ and ‘talent’ then.”

The other students sneered at him. They were in disbelief that someone this shameless existed.

“Hmph, you’ll swallow your words soon.”

“Heh, bet you’ll just embarrass yourself.”

While they were arguing with one another, the people in the grandstand were having a heated discussion.

“Oh, a dual mana core, both graded at level 6? Water and ice mana essences and a dantian graded at 6? How interesting.”

William saw her information and was immediately shocked by the results.

“To think that a human Prospect candidate has shown this early. Looks like this year’s school selection will bring us many surprises.”

“Sabrina Rossi? Is she the granddaughter of that swordsman from the Rossi family?”

“Yes Sir, Leonardo Rossi is her grandfather,” Matthias answered.

William thought for a moment before coming up to a conclusion.

“Too bad, she will definitely choose to be a Battlemage rather than one of the classes in the Great Magic School.”

“Why do you think so, Sir William?”

“Her grandfather is a Weapons Master and with her talent in mana cultivation, there’s definitely no doubt she’d choose the Battlemage class. After all, battlemages need to be proficient in weapons and physical ability, and having excellent talent in mana cultivation.”

The rest of them was then able to understand why he said that.

“She’s starting her test now.”

Many of the officials looked over.

Sabrina entered the test room equipped with a short sword. It was 38cm long, enough for someone of her age.

The dummy also equipped itself with a short sword similar to Sabrina. It charged at her and swung the sword horizontally.

Sabrina parried the attack, then counter-attacked by lunging forward.

“Oh, what a good move.”

She parried the attack at the right moment, then immediately retaliated with her own attack, not giving the dummy a chance to recover. Not many have this ability and skills at a young age.

Furthermore, the dummy and anything it equipped, were inscribed with a reflecting concussive array formation where each physical contact would send a shockwave to the student. If one was not careful, they would be injured. The stronger the attack the dummy received, the stronger the shockwave would be.

“Oh, the dummy’s slowing down? That’s girl’s level of manipulating of her ice mana essence is something an experienced fighter could only do.”

Sabrina has layered her sword with ice mana essence. Every time she clashed with the dummy, the ice mana essence would transfer from her sword into the dummy, slowing it down as they continued to clash.

“Well, the result is very obvious already. Let’s go back into observing other students.”

Bruce Thompson was rather bored watching her and looked away. He was one of the deans in the Great Martial Arts School.

“There are some good ones here, but they don’t cut for becoming a Prospect candidate.”

One of the human deans sighed. The measurement of being a Prospect candidate was different for each race.

The Human Imperium would determine if one was a Prospect candidate if they either have at least a grade 6 mana core, dual or more mana cores at grade 6 condensed after being 16, or other special attributes and/or abilities.

It was too low when compared to the other races.

A few bright lights flashed. Many people were drawn over the commotion.

“Oh, 3 Prospect candidates at once?”

“Sam Hearst, dual mana core at grade 6, light and dark mana essences. His dantian is graded at 6 too.”

He was the person who asked for Sabrina’s name. The students mocking him before were flabbergasted.

`Damn it, what bad luck!` They cursed in their minds.

“What now huh? Still not convinced of my talent?” He smirked, brimming with arrogance and superiority.

“Hmph, you just got lucky, brat!”

“Tch, what a load of idiots.” Sam went into his test room and ignored them.

`I’ll ask for her name later.`

He was lovestruck by that girl’s looks and talent.

The discussions in the grandstand continued.

“Sam Hearst from the Hearst family?”

“Yes sir. His brother, Rainald Hearst, is a Prospect titled the Quicksilver Swordsman.”

“That bastard Lucas. How lucky!”

“Jeremias Pickler, mana core at grade 7. Fire mana essence.”

“Victoria Spencer, triple mana core at grade 9. Fire, wind, and water mana essences. What the hell?!”

Emperor Marcus slightly changed his expression after hearing that girl’s name. However, nobody noticed it.

“What?! A triple mana core graded at 9? Who are her parents?”

“Sir, she came from a common family. Her father is an ordinary fighter while her mother is a low-level healer.”

“Ho, those couples are blessed. How lucky!”

“Ha! The Great Human Imperium is even more blessed! Finally, we can see the door that will lead us to our golden age!”

Many human officials agreed. The number of Prospect candidates has dwindled over the course of years. Only the student batch from 5 years and 8 years ago did they spotted many Prospect candidates.

Sam Hearst picked the Great Martial Arts School test, while Jeremias Pickler and Victoria Spencer chose the Great Magic School.

“Emperor Marcus, your child’s school selection should be this year, right?” one of the Void Hive dignitaries asked about it.

“Yes. I don’t know if you Voids or Elden would be convinced of his potential and talent, however.”

“Haha, you must be jesting Emperor Marcus. Of course, the ‘Child of Destiny’ will have supreme talent, or else he wouldn’t be called one.” The dignitary was more excited now. If the ‘Child of Destiny’s’ talent were that excellent, then they would feel happy.

If not, they would mock the humans for being audacious.

“Oh, there he is.”

An intensely bright light flashed, illuminating the whole Central Square.

Many people were astonished about such an event.

“Did an overwhelmingly talented Prospect candidate arrived?”

“Who is that person?”

“Oh?! It’s Prince Kane Cromwell!”

“The son of his Imperial Majesty and the one dubbed as the Child of Destiny?!”

“Yes! He’s both handsome and talented! Ah, I want to be his wife.”

“Dream on, girl.”

The heated discussions continued in the Central Square and the Great Human Imperium.

“Kane Cromwell. Six mana cores at grade 9. Fire, Water, Wind, Lightning, Dark, and Light mana essences. Your Imperial Majesty, you have produced an excellent son. It’s way better than the Exalted Monarch’s school selection results.”

“Hmm, you’re right. Definitely possesses the right to be called the ‘Child of Destiny’. He could contend against the Elden’s Prospect candidates.”

The people on the stage were shocked at how excellent Kane Cromwell was.

“Your Imperial Majesty, I, Odixx, on behalf of the Great Void Hive, congratulates you for this wonderful event.”

“Your Imperial Majesty, I, Tarron Venvaris, on behalf of the Great Elden Conglomerate, also congratulate you for this wonderful event of the Great Human Imperium.”

They changed their address from Emperor Marcus to Imperial Majesty, showing more respect to the Emperor due to his son’s excellent potential and talent.

Emperor Marcus sneered in his mind.

`These fools. First, they were mocking us. Now that my son has shown what he could offer, they started to bootlick like dogs. Hmph!`

He suddenly thought of his wife.

`Elaina, do you see this? This is our son! He has not let us down!`

If only she was not bedridden and, in a coma, she would definitely feel proud of her son Kane. Emperor Marcus’s thoughts were cut off due to the commotion about his son Kane.

“He chose the Great Magic School! Haha, this is great!” William Martin felt triumphant when Kane chose the Magic school. He smirked and proudly struck a victorious pose against his rivals.

The other deans gritted their teeth and cursed William and generations of his family.

`You just got lucky, damned dumpling.`

Bruce Thompson felt uneasy now. The Great Magic School gained a Prospect and an extremely good one at that. Although Sabrina Rossi and Stengel joined the Great Weaponry School, they were not strong enough to contend against Kane Cromwell.

The school selection event continued.

While everyone on the Imperium Capital City was busy with the school selection event.

In the Medullan Forward Camp.

“Keep on running!”

“Sh*t, where’d these demon beasts come from?!”

“If you want to worry about something, worry about yourself first!”

“Damn it, where are the reinforcements? We’re slowly dying here!”

“Grandmaster Silver has already left an hour ago to ask for reinforcements. Just hold on!”

“F*ck!”
