Chapter 19: Wen丶丶

At the same time, Su Haoan had opened the door of the back seat.

He caught a glimpse of Wen Yifan and Sang Yan, who were still standing and urged, “Why are both of you still standing there? Carry on with your talk inside the car.”

Wen Yifan looked away, “Okay, coming.”

Xiang Lang’s car only had five passenger seats, and now there were only two seats left in the back seat.

Wen Yifan went to the door nearest to her and opened it.

Before she could enter, Sang Yan placed his hand against the window. He stopped, glanced down at her, and raised his eyebrows, “Thanks.”

    “……”

It seemed like she was a tool meant to help him to open the door.

Wen Yifan watched him sitting at the centre of the backseat, and Su Haoan was on the other side. Zhong Siqiao was sitting at the front passenger’s seat, she was looking in Wen Yifan’s direction, “Fanfan, quickly get in the car.”

She nodded and entered.

Su Haoan immediately smirked as soon as the door was closed, “What were you two talking about just now? Care to share?”

Wen Yifan looked at Sang Yan and honestly said, “He asked me not to show off to everyone.”

Zhong Siqiao asked, “Not to show off what?”

Wen Yifan, “Sharing a unit with him.”

    “……”

The atmosphere seemed to have frozen like the confined space inside the car.

A few seconds later, the silence was broken by Su Haoan’s swear.

“My god.”

“Bro, I know you’re shameless, but you can’t be this shameless, can you?” Su Haoan added, “Wen Yifan, you don’t have to bother about him. He’s a mean guy, just like in high school. A normal person would restrain himself from being this shameless, but it’s impossible for him. He will only become more and more shameless…”

Sang Yan tilted his head and suddenly said, “I’m in a good mood today.”

Su Haoan immediately became mute after hearing this.

Zhong Siqiao giggled, “Sang Yan is still as humorous.”

Xiang Lang was turning the steering wheel and gently reminded, “Yifan only told both of us, you don’t have to worry.”

Sang Yan lifted his eyelids slightly and didn’t respond.

Wen Yifan looked in the direction of Sang Yan.

In fact, she didn’t have any other feelings about what Sang Yan said before other than being speechless.

The first reaction in her mind was.

Wow.

It seems I’m either being misinterpreted.

Or.

It’s to look cool by calmly saying those words out loud.

So Wen Yifan didn’t feel anything and didn’t think much when she repeated the story that happened just now. She was too lazy to make up stories. Since he could say it out, then he should not mind letting others know about it.

Then she might as well just tell the truth.

However, she somehow had a guilty feeling for snitching on him at that moment.

“By the way, Wen Yifan.” Su Haoan said, “About this matter, I still have to apologize to you. I thought the contract of this unit was signed by each tenant separately, I didn’t clearly understand the unit sharing process. I thought the tenant could just move in after negotiating with the previous tenant.”

Wen Yifan turned and looked at him.

Sang Yan sat in between them as if they were just thin air, he didn’t have any intentions to participate in their conversation.

Su Haoan, “So when Sang Yan asked me to find a room for him, I gave him the keys directly. I heard from a certain someone that I had scared you, I’m sorry about that. This meal is on me, treat it as an apology dinner.”

Wen Yifan subconsciously asked, “Someone?”

Su Haoan remained silent for a while, “Wang Linlin.”

His reaction seemed as if he had a fight with Wang Linlin. However, it wasn’t Wen Yifan’s problem. She didn’t care about it and didn’t intend to interfere in other people’s affairs, “It’s all right, this matter was already resolved. Just pay more attention to these kinds of issues in the future.”

Zhong Siqiao looked back and said, “Geez, you told me before that your previous housemate was your colleague, her name is Wang Linlin, right?”

Wen Yifan, “Yes.”

Xiang Lang, “Su Haoan, how did you know Wang Linlin?”

“……” Su Haoan said, “She’s my ex-girlfriend.”

Zhong Siqiao was surprised, “What a coincidence?”

Wen Yifan was also surprised because of the word ‘ex’.

Xiang Lang smiled, “Then, did you know the other tenant was Yifan when you passed the keys to Sang Yan?”

Su Haoan sighed and pretended to say, “How would I know?”

“I see. I did not expect that Sang Yan’s willing to share a unit with others.” Xiang Lang looked at the rearview mirror and pointed out, “I heard that you have opened a bar that is making a lot of money.”

Su Haoan, who was one of the owners that wanted to stay low-profile without showing off, wanted to reply, “It’s not too bad.”

But before he could speak, Sang Yan finally had ears and mouth this time, but his tone was still annoying.

“It’s not.”

    “……”

They went to a popular hotpot restaurant.

Xiang Lang had reserved a table in advance, but they didn’t know they would meet Su Haoan and Sang Yan. So, the waiters had arranged a table for the other four of them. There was a long bench on each side of the table, one person per bench would be spacious, but two would be too packed.

However, there was no other place in the restaurant, so they had to cope with the situation.

The two girls were petite, so they sat together on one bench, while the other three men each sat on one bench.

Xiang Lang was sitting next to Wen Yifan, while Sang Yan sat opposite her.

Xiang Lang rolled up his sleeves and chatted with Su Haoan while pouring tea into everyone’s cups.

Wen Yifan picked up the cup and wanted to take a sip. Zhong Siqiao patted her arm immediately and smiled, “Put it down, it’s not for you to drink. Wait a while for me to rinse your bowl and chopsticks.”

At the same moment, Xiang Lang had already rinsed his bowl and chopstick with the hot tea. He habitually pushed them in front of Wen Yifan and exchanged them with hers. He casually said, “We’re the same. I have been abroad for a long time, I can say I don’t have the habit anymore.”

His actions were very natural.

Sang Yan stared for two seconds and quickly looked away.

Su Haoan teased when he noticed Xiang Lang’s actions, “You look like you’re taking care of your girlfriend.”

“Can be the same, both of us have this habit.” Zhong Siqiao casually said, “Wen Yifan used to always burn herself, which caused us to be scared whenever we saw her holding a cup of hot water. After that, either Xiang Lang or me would help her.”

Su Haoan suddenly realized, “Oh, I almost forgot. Did the three of you grow up together?”

Wen Yifan, “We have been classmates since kindergarten.”

“Hey, I suddenly recalled something,” Zhong Siqiao began to giggle before she started telling the story, “Wen Yifan had a nickname called Wen Diandian during elementary school.”

(*Dian means the dot radical in Chinese)

“Huh?” Su Haoan asked, “Why?”

“Because the teacher wanted us to write our names on our book on the first day of first grade.” Xiang Lang also smiled, “But Yifan was slow in learning things, she only knew how to write her surname. She could only remember the two dots in her name every time.”

“So during the beginning of school, whenever she wrote her name,” Zhong Siqiao gestured, “She would write Wen 丶丶”

(*Wen Yifan温以凡,  the two dots refers to丶丶that are the strokes in the Chinese character of Yifan.)

“……” Wen Yifan was slightly embarrassed, she looked down and drank tea.

Su Haoan was stunned and laughed. He had a habit of hitting someone whenever he laughed. The person who suffered from this habit this time was still Sang Yan, “D*mn, I’m laughing my a*s off.”

Sang Yan looked upset, he coldly said, “Are you sick?”

“Why are you so hot-tempered?” Su Haoan stopped hitting and sighed, “I’m envious of you guys. This dog is the only person I knew for the longest time. But I’m sure you guys are aware of his personality, I sure have suffered a lot.”

Wen Yifan felt like laughing when she heard the word ‘suffered’, and she smiled slightly.

The current situation had brought her a trip down memory lane to the time when they first met.

Wen Yifan looked up.

She just happened to meet Sang Yan’s cold eyes.

    “……”

Wen Yifan blinked and looked down calmly.

    ……

The meal was exceptionally harmonious.

Occasions basically would not turn awkward with the presence of Su Haoan, he was the only one talking most of the time, and the food was mostly finished by him. It wasn’t a problem for him to do two things at the same time.

Wen Yifan only ate a little.

She seldom ate dinner.

At first, it was because she had a small appetite and would hardly feel hungry. So, she would always forget to have dinner whenever she was busy. Even if she was at home during her off days, she would be too lazy to cook and simply just skipped dinner.

However, whenever she had to conduct interviews outdoors, she would pack a lot of energy bars in her bag to provide her the energy.

After dinner, they drove to Depraved Street and went to ‘OverTime’ , which looked like a hair salon. The familiar black signboard exuded a distinctive ambience in this colorful place.

They went into the bar.

Heavy metal music was playing inside the bar, it came in like a heat wave as soon as they opened the door.

Sang Yan went towards the bar and seemed to be parting ways with them.

He only said, “Take them upstairs.”

But Su Haoan grabbed him without taking a few steps, “What? Why are you leaving? Let’s talk more with our former classmates. Besides, will we still have business if you’re in the bar with your stinky face?”

    “……”

Su Haoan brought them to the middle sofa seat on the second floor.

The sofa was placed in a ‘U’ shape. Both of the girls sat in the middle, Sang Yan and Su Haoan sat on the left, while Xiang Lang was on the other side.

However, Sang Yan was the one sitting next to her this time, and Xiang Lang was next to Zhong Siqiao.

Sang Yan leaned against the chair as soon as he sat down. He seemed like he was spineless and didn’t know how to sit properly. He was wearing a high high-necked windbreaker jacket which slightly covered his lower jaw that made him look extremely sluggish.

Wen Yifan took out her phone and contemplated the time to go home in her mind.

At that time, Zhong Siqiao whispered in her ear, “Sis, are you miserable sharing a unit with Sang Yan?”

She paused, “Why do you ask?

“I didn’t see him smiling even once during the whole meal. He looked like someone owed him 8 million.” Zhong Siqiao continued as she went into the bar, “What happened to him? Did something bad happen?”

Wen Yifan quickly glanced at Sang Yan’s expressions, “Isn’t this quite normal?”

Zhong Siqiao, “……”

Su Haoan asked the waiter to serve drinks, five dice cups and a deck of ‘Truth or Dare’ cards. He opened a can of beer and took a sip, “Let’s play dice, whoever loses will drink or be punished with ‘Truth or Dare’. What do you guys think?”

“Okay.” Xiang Lang looked at them, “But do you guys know how?”

“Of course.” Zhong Siqiao laughed and grumbled, “Who are you looking down on?”

Wen Yifan honestly answered, “I don’t.”

Su Haoan, “Then, let’s try to play for a few rounds, we’ll start the punishment once we’re playing smoothly, ok?”

Once he finished explaining, he noticed their seating positions and immediately sympathized with her, “Wen Yifan, you have to be careful. Sang Yan, this dog, is very good at this game. He can guess numbers accurately every time, no one dares to ask him to reveal his dice. So, the subsequent player will be trapped.”

The rule of the game was to look at their own dice in their cup after everyone had done rolling their dice. Every player had to call out a number in clockwise order, choose between the number of dice or the number of points on the dice and add them up, the next player must call out a larger number than the previous player.

The subsequent player then had to call out a larger number than the previous player; other players could request to reveal the player’s dice if the number was too suspicious. However, if the reveal was a failure, then that particular player would have to receive double the punishment.

There were five people, so Su Haoan had set the minimum number to be called out at 7.

Wen Yifan played several rounds before gradually getting the hang of it. But she was very bad at the game. During the start of the official game, she was extra cautious due to Su Haoan’s advice. She would only add one to the number that Sang Yan said.

The first round.

Su Haoan called out 14 sixes.

Sang Yan opened the dice cup in front of him and lifted his chin towards him before saying lazily, “Open.”

    “……”

Su Haoan drank the beer.

The second round.

The third round.

The fourth round.

After seven or eight rounds.

Wen Yifan was surprised to find that she had never lost a round when she followed what Sang Yan called out. On the flip side, Su Haoan who was the previous player of Sang Yan was revealed successfully by him several times. He had continuously drunk several glasses of beer.

In the ninth round, Wen Yifan was called out by Zhong Siqiao. She hesitated before choosing ‘Dare’.

Zhong Siqiao helped her to draw a ‘Dare’ card.

Name one advantage of everyone who is of the opposite gender and is present.

    “……”

Wen Yifan looked up and chose Xiang Lang as the first one, “Attentive.”

Then, Su Haoan, “Enthusiastic.”

Finally, Sang Yan.

She stared at his face and thought to herself that she had to say something that would not make him narcissistic. She took a long time before uttering, “…Rich.”

    “……”

Sang Yan stared at her and his lips twitched. He seemed like he wanted to scoff.

The tenth round.

Xiang Lang lost and he chose ‘Truth’.

State the thing that you regret the most.

“That should be…” Xiang Lang pondered and sighed softly, “Going abroad to study in university. Otherwise, I should have been into Yihe University together with Yifan. We had promised to enrol into the clinical medicine course together.”

    “……”

Wen Yifan was about to say something.

At that moment.

Sang Yan had already shaken the dice cup and said, “Carry on.”

Wen Yifan’s words got stuck in her throat as she looked at him.

His side profile looked cold under the dim lights, his head was slightly tilted downwards and his body was slightly bent down. His face was half bright and half dim, his black hair strands were randomly scattered on his forehead, so she couldn’t see his facial expressions clearly.

Wen Yifan looked down and took a sip of her beer.

The fifteenth round.

The numbers kept on increasing, and when it was Su Haoan’s turn, it had reached 15 fives.

Sang Yan didn’t call out a number.

Wen Yifan was slightly nervous.

Since it would be her turn after his.

Sang Yan stared at the dice cup, remained silent for a while, then looked up at Wen Yifan. His eyelids were thin, and his pupils were deeply dark, she couldn’t tell what he was thinking at that moment.

“18 fives.”

Su Haoan excitedly stood up and slammed on the table, “Open!”

    “……”

“You’re ridiculous! Are you out of your mind? 18? Even idiots will ask you to open!”

Including the joker dice, there were 17 fives in the game.

Joker dice is an appointed number of dice that could be treated as any number.

It just happened to be one number less than the number Sang Yan called out.

Double the punishment.

Sang Yan chose ‘Truth’ and a glass of beer.

Su Haoan enthusiastically helped him to choose a card.

Name the city that you last went to.

    “……”

Su Haoan frowned and was so angry that he wanted to tear up the card, “D*mn it, it’s so rare for you to lose this game for once, what stupid question is this!”

Sang Yan poured a glass of beer himself and gulped down the beer in one go. His Adam’s apple went up and down and paused for a few seconds as if he was slightly absentminded. Then, he blurted out two words.”

“Yihe.”
