CH:21 Talk

Starting to walk towards them through the skeletons is nerve-racking, to say the least. The mage-looking girl in the backline also quickly stood up at my call and brought her staff to face me.

The skeletons move out of my way until I’m standing in front of the group of weary adventurers. By this point they have all stopped moving completely.

“Which of you is the leader?”

I’m really trying to sound imposing but not too threatening here. I don’t think I could take these guys if they all rushed me now. I’d just have to run back into the skeleton mob and try to get away from the fighting until it was over.

“That would be me.” One of the swordsmen steps forward out of the line to meet me. He is clad in leather and iron armor and has a 2.5 foot gleaming sword in his hand, which I can only eye wearily for a second before looking back at his face. Sandy blonde hair and brown eyes. Each of those eyes filled with contempt.

I really don’t like where this is going maybe Venessa should have come here instead? As soon as I called out to them she crouched and started into the pile of skeletons herself, keeping her out of sight, but I could really use some support right now.

As I was lost in thought for only a second, the man’s sword arm drew back and started to swing forward.

This was stupid. Why did I think this was a good idea in the first place.  Maybe there is some wisdom here? Act with a plan instead of feelings or hesitation? Meh.

I did my best to spring back but still received a cut along my upper arm, just as the man’s sword arm was at the end of its sweep through flesh and air, Venessa Leaped out of the skeletons behind me and the man soon found himself with two new pieces of metal sprouting from his body as she ran him through with her weapon of choice, having picked up two of the thin-bladed and thin Stiletto daggers one through the stomach, and the other through the chest.

Falling backward in pain the man fell to the ground and Venessa quickly pulled out the stilettos and put them through his neck.

The remaining front liners of the group poised to run for us while the back liners once again began readying their own attacks.

“COME ON!, this is what I get for not killing you guys? I could have just sat back there and waited you know?”

I’m angry now. Those pieces of s*** didn’t even listen to me speak before they tried to kill me, and now it’s about to go back to how it all was just a minute before?

Perhaps sensing my mood, even though I hadn’t given a direct order, the skeletons pushed up closer to the group once again, who began to shrink back from the weight of the numbers bearing down on them.  Without their leader and one-third of their front line, they would soon be swallowed by bones.

“Can we stop this for a while? This is a misunderstanding! Let us explain this to you!”

If they don’t take this then they really will die. I hope they can see that. If they want to have a chance at life they should at least be prepared to talk right?

“Set down your weapons and actually talk or you’ll just die here. Why is that so hard to understand?”

They looked at each other for a couple of seconds, before the remains swordsman put down his sword, and soon the others followed suit.
