Chapter 8: Sparring

“Come on! You are the one asking for this spar, little brother!”

I ignore the taunting my brother, Ruval Phenex, gave to me. When we are not sparring, Ruval is a kind, polite, and dotting brother. However, when we are in the training room, he changes into someone else.

Anyway, I dodge another fire attack my brother sent to me, and I create a thousand fireflies made of my flame. Then, I let the firefly fly toward Ruval and run toward him with my fist coated with fire.

I throw a right punch at my brother, who catches my hand effortlessly. Seeing my punch is blocked, I throw another punch with my left hand and see that my hands are blocked and held by my brother. However, instead of worrying, I smirk at my brother.

*BOOM*

One of the fireflies I created earlier exploded right in front of my brother’s face. Feeling my brother’s grip loosen up, I take my hands back and fire a flame thrower toward him from a point-blank.

I see my brother thrown to the wall and creating a web-like pattern on it. Before he could even get up, I sent a dozen fireflies at him and detonated them once again. One by one, an explosion happened around Ruval.

After a few seconds, I thought that I’m going too far, but when I saw the dust disappear and Ruval still standing there with a smirk on his face and a massive fire-like aura around his body, I knew I’m done for.

“Good! You have grown! Let’s see how good your regeneration is right now!”

“Can we get a time up?”

“Nope!”

Before I could blink, I got sent flying by a punch to the face. Urgh. Was that the wall? Yeah, it is the wall. I shake my head and look up and widen my eyes. Flying toward me is a massive fireball with a diameter of three meters long, and I feel the heat coming from it.

Seeing the incoming fireball, I release a massive fire from my palm but instead punch through the fire; I use my unique fire and freeze it away. However, before I could release a relief breath, the ice in front of me got destroyed, and coming from behind the ice was Ruval.

I barely dodge Ruval’s kick and barely survive being turned into a pulp. I swallow a little bit of my saliva when I see Ruval create a massive crater on the ground from his single kick.

This is what makes Ruval a dangerous opponent. He is a well-rounded fighter. The bloodline coming from Phenex let him become a long-ranged fighter, and the bloodline from the Vassago family made him a good close-ranged fighter.

I snap from my thoughts when my danger sense screams at me to dodge. However, even with all my strength, I cannot dodge another flying burning kick Ruval throws at me. Once again, I get sent flying like a rag doll being thrown by a child.

Before I could even get up, I saw Ruval sit on top of me with a massive grin on his face.

“You still need more training, Riser.”

“Urgh. Of course, I cannot beat you, brother. You and Rasul are on another level than me. You two are a high-level high-class devil, after all. You are one of the strongest devils in your generation.”

“Heh. That’s true, but you still need more training if you want to reach where Rasul and I are standing.”

“Fair enough. However, I did not need to hurry up….”

“Wrong! You need to hurry up, remember you will experience your first Rating game in less than a year.”

“Urgh. Don’t remind me of that.”

“Speaking of Rating games, do you have an eye for your first peerage member?”

“No, sadly no.”

“Hmmm. Do you need me to introduce you to someone? I have a few people that are willing to become your peerage, and they are quite powerful.”

“Nah. Don’t worry about me.”

“Are you sure? You can ask me anything, you know. As long as it was within my power, I will fulfill your request.”

“Nothing for now. However, when my Rating game comes up and I still do not have a peerage member, can I borrow yours?”

“Of course! I will be happy lending them to you, dear brother.”

“Thank you, Ruval.”

“Think nothing of it!”

With that being said, Ruval helped me get up from the ground and see if I still have an injury that has yet to be healed. Seeing there is none, Ruval nods his head and says.

“By the way, brother. Are you still practicing your healing magic in the human world hospital?”

“That I’m a brother.”

“I still did not understand why you need to learn healing magic even though our bloodline should be taking care of the healing part.”

“As I said in the past, I want to be able to heal my peerage member if needed.”

“That is what the bishop used for!”

“What if it was my bishop that was heavily injured?”

“Phoenix Tear!”

“What if we depleted our supply of Phoenix Tears?”

“Urgh. Fine!”

Practicing healing magic. That is not really the reason why I go to the hospital in the human world. While yes, I need to practice my healing magic, it was not my main reason. My main reason is to get as many souls as I can.

While most of them choose to repent, some people do not want to repent. In the span of one month, I got myself a few hundred souls just from a hospital worldwide. I also can harvest some souls in Romania where the vampire is doing their hunting.

I know that I can get souls from people that died within 24 hours in a 10 Kilometer radius around me. Yeah, it was a rather long radius. That is why a hospital or even a battlefield is a perfect place to harvest some soul.

“Where the f*** am I? Motha fucka’s I will rip you apart, I will-“

“Lui X, or should I call you by your actual name, Karam Goyal?”

The man blinked for a few seconds before saying.

“I don’t know what da f*** you’re talking about! I am from Harlem. I am the hardest brother that you will ever see.”

“You were born in New Delhi, India. Your parents moved to the United States because your father’s work needed him in the said country. You are part of a gang called the Red Brother. You have been recruited into the gang since you were fourteen.”

The man begins to widen his eyes the more I speak.

“What the f*** are you? And what’s going on?”

“Well, Karam, you are dead. Remember how you mug a guy in the street near your house? Well, he is a member of your rival gang. They decide to make an example out of you, and because of your death, your gang decides to wage war with the other gang.”

And I’m telling him the truth. I witnessed it after all, and because of this, I get a few more souls to judge.

“F***.”

“Yeah.”

“Only God can judge me.”

“I’m pretty sure that isn’t the case, sir. I mean, you got into prison because someone judged you, so that whole idea pretty much falls apart. Also, you’re kind of dead, so this is pretty much the judgment part.”

“Oh”

He took a deep breath and stood up straight.

“So, I’m going to heaven?”

“Karam… You stole, you beat people up, and you r*pe 14 years old girl.”

“She said that she is 18!”

“Karam… I literally work for monsters who devour human souls, please… don’t give me the moral high ground. Also, you still r*pe her.”

He crossed his arm and looked at me right in the eyes, and said.

“Not the way it works. There are rules. If you repent, honestly repent, you can avoid this.”

“And if I don’t?”

“Well, normally you would go to hell, Karam, but if you don’t repent… well, your soul gets eaten, and you stop existing.”

Karam looks to the ground, and after a few seconds, he looks at me and says,

“You think my parents are in heaven?”

I look at the books in front of me and read his history, and after a few seconds, I nod my head.

“In all likelihood, yeah, your parents were honest and hardworking people.”

He nods his head and says with certainty.

“I choose oblivion.”

I look at him in surprise.

“Really?”

“I hated my father, and I know the prick would tell me I told you so.”

“So instead of repenting and going to paradise, you would rather stop existing.”

“Yes.”

“I respect your conviction.”

After that being said, a portal opens up, and a tentacle grabs him. However, before he gets taken away, Karam two middle fingers high in the air while shouting.

“I DON’T REGRET A THING, MOTHER FUCKERS!”
