Chapter 11

Daphne’s life has changed completely. From the surface, they are still living their normal lives as if nothing happens. But in fact, what actually happens is the opposite. They are crushed by a psychologically gripping fear. Every day… no, every hour, television is broadcasting the news about war. And when she wants to switch the channel to watch another topic, other channels will show the same topic. Likewise, with messages on MessageApps – this is even worse, because the provocations of the separatists to fight against the central government are scattered here freely and unlimitedly. Life has been in vast turmoil because of this war, but they still add the turmoil by provoking the people to stand on their sides and fight against the government.

“But as you can see, our government is indeed very disgusting. Take a look at the news for Amethyst. High officials bang on every house and drag every healthy person they can catch to fight against Neptune! It’s crazy, they’ve even never participated in military service, but the government forces them to fight! And the more crazy part is, they also catch the girls as well as the elderly – whoever looks healthy, they will be caught and forced to fight. Crazy sh*t, eh?!”

Damien, Daphne’s classmate, speaks ferociously to Daphne and other interns who are all Neptunian-Plutonians. Damien is an intern at Daphne’s age. His short periwinkle-violet hair shows a prominent forehead. His face is thin with big, round orange eyes. His body is thin, and he is not too tall. At first glance, Damien looks like a nerd who will not care about things like socio-political issues, but it turns out that what happens is the opposite. Like now. Damien speaks in a fierce tone, yet he understands that the situation doesn’t allow him to talk aloud. That is the reason why they hold the conversation in a small voice, at the corner of the hospital and far away from the crowd.

“The situation in Amethyst is really terrible. By good fortune, my uncle manages to return home,” Daniel rests his chin on his knee.

“But I get the info that war will be waged on Sapphire. We just don’t know when it will happen,” Jordan chimes in.

Damien utters again, “So that’s why we must take action, as the Sapphire pro-independence leaders always say! Now is the time for us to take action! The government has the heart to sacrifice the indigenous locals even though they are of their own ethnicity, then they will sacrifice us for sure!”

“But… if Neptune really attacks Sapphire, maybe it will make things different for us? They will protect us, since we are Neptunians?…” Alex asks hesitantly.

“This is it! But, Neptune will help us, if only we help them first!”

“What do you mean by helping them… so, should we?…”

“Help them, that’s right! By taking part in the pro-Neptune movements!” Damien stretches out his hand, handing some papers to his companions. “This is an invitation to join the pro-Neptune movement. We’ll have a meeting tonight. Please come and join us.”

Taking the paper Damien gives to them, all of the interns stare at him in surprise. “Hey, Damien… are you now joining the pro-Neptune movement?!?”

Damien nods sternly. All interns begin to look at each other nervously.

“It is really out of expectation, Damien… You are indeed very patriotic and gallant, and we have always admired your ideas, but this…” Leon asks hesitantly.

For the second time, Damien replies ferociously, “For all this time we Neptunian-Plutonians are always being the butt of the majority people just because they hate Neptune, they don’t care that we only have Neptunian blood and not the nationality, our nationality is Pluto. We are Plutonian, but they still brand us as Neptune people. So, do we still have to maintain loyalty to that kind of government? Then now they do such foolishness by sacrificing the civilians, but in the end, it is them who take the advantage, just because they will be awarded high status by Nature Continent and thus get huge profits from it. For this time we have tried our best to struggle with their wickedness but we have no power to win them. And now, we are given such a great opportunity, Neptune has taken such this firm and steady step, then how can we waste it? This is our good chance to fight against such a stupid government! If only we unite together and fight for what our nation should be fighting for, then true serenity will be created!”

Even though the volume of Damien’s speech is in a low voice, but he speaks it in a firm and shocking tone, so that it immediately makes all of his friends who were about to raise doubts or rebuttals remain silent. They lower their heads again, and begin to read the sentences written on the propaganda paper. Some of them even tend to be moved to follow him.

Daphne’s chaotic mind, says the opposite.
