First movie review

“Ha, I’m so hungry. Let’s go and see what Mom made for breakfast,” Leo Wu murmured in a low voice, then hurriedly went to the dining table to check all the containers. However, they were all empty.

He heard a female voice coming from the living room, “Leo, from now on, we are not going to feed you anything. You have to earn your meal.”

“What the hell?” shouted Leo Wu angrily.

“Do you want us to kick you out of the house too?” This time a male voice emerged from his parents’ bedroom.

He didn’t say anything and returned to his bedroom, grabbing his phone to call his relatives. “The user you just called is currently busy. Please try again later.”

He tried another relative, only to hear the same message. This frustrating pattern repeated for each relative he attempted to call.

“Idiots…” Leo Wu cursed under his breath. He dressed himself properly and left the house to look for a part-time job.

After a few minutes, he spotted a recruitment notice at the entrance of a restaurant and entered. “Sir, welcome to the Family Restaurant. Please take a seat wherever you like and place your order,” said the receptionist with a smile.

“I… I’m here to apply for a job,” said Leo Wu, his embarrassment evident as he scratched the back of his head.

“Oh,” replied the receptionist, her demeanor doing a complete 180-degree turn after he mentioned he was seeking a job at the restaurant.

“May I know where I need to go to apply for a job?” Leo Wu inquired while looking at the receptionist.

She glanced at him from the corner of her eye and replied, turning her head away, “Go straight and then take a left. There’s an office where you can apply for a job.”

Once she finished speaking, she walked away. Leo Wu clenched his fist tightly and then relaxed it before proceeding to the office, following the directions provided by the receptionist.

After a few minutes, he reached the office door and raised his hand to knock. “Knock… Knock…”

“Come inside,” a voice called out from the office.

Leo Wu slowly opened the door, entered, and walked toward the office desk, standing in front of it.

The restaurant owner looked up to see Leo Wu and inquired, “Why are you here?”

“I’m here to apply for a job,” replied Leo Wu.

“Which job?” the restaurant owner asked, observing Leo Wu.

Taken aback by the question, Leo Wu asked with an embarrassed expression, “For which positions are you recruiting?”

The restaurant owner took out a recruitment paper and placed it on the desk. Leo Wu looked at the job listings and realized they were only hiring waiters and cleaners. He now understood why the receptionist had regarded him so dismissively when he mentioned he was seeking employment at the restaurant.

After a brief hesitation, Leo Wu placed his finger on the waiter position on the recruitment paper and said, “I want to apply for a waiter job.”

“Where is your resume?” asked the restaurant owner as he reviewed the files on his desk.

“Resume? Why would I need a resume to apply for a waiter job?” Leo Wu inquired, a look of surprise on his face.

“If you possess a resume, then you can consider applying. However, without one, you might as well exit my office and find your way out of the restaurant,” the owner remarked, adjusting his glasses with his finger.

“What qualifications are required for this waiter job?” Leo Wu asked, his frustration apparent.

“To be eligible, you need to have completed a graduation and include that information on your resume when applying for the waiter position,” the restaurant owner stated casually.

Leo Wu felt the urge to lash out, to punch and kick the owner, even to smash the office table. Yet, he took a deep breath, exited the office, and made his way to the restaurant’s entrance before stepping outside.

“Frustrating how even a waiter job demands a graduation certificate on the resume. What’s wrong with that person? Why is a graduation certificate necessary for a waiter role?” Leo Wu muttered inwardly, annoyance etched on his face.

He continued searching for other part-time positions, only to discover that they all required a graduation certificate. Growing weary after hours of walking, he eventually found a spot near a construction site to sit. After quenching his thirst with tap water, he settled onto a stone platform and lifted his gaze to survey his surroundings.

He heard an announcement emanating from the construction site, “We are in search of workers. If you know anyone interested in working at a construction site, kindly refer them.”

“Finally, a job that doesn’t require a graduation certificate or resume,” Leo Wu murmured to himself, a sense of relief washing over him. He proceeded slowly toward the construction site.

Eventually, he arrived at the construction site and approached the leader of the workers. He expressed his desire to work there, and the leader readily agreed, welcoming Leo Wu to join the team.

After putting in several hours of work, he managed to earn enough money to sustain himself for two days. He pocketed the earnings and began searching for other labor opportunities that didn’t demand a graduation certificate.

Upon accumulating a satisfactory amount of money, he hurriedly went to grab a meal and recharge his smartphone. He then purchased a few raw food items before heading back home.

Frustration stemming from his family’s treatment and the weariness from relentless work since morning led Leo Wu to seek entertainment. He stumbled upon a newly released movie on Zflix and decided to watch it online.

However, the movie proved to be a source of limitless frustration for him. Unable to bear it until the end, he halted his viewing and ventured into the review section. He left a curt comment: “I don’t know why I’m still alive after witnessing this Oscar-level acting.”
