Okay, yeah, that was a bit creepy. But I need for the Immortals to be a bit out of touch with what is and is not normal to the rest of us, and this was a good way to do it without doing something truly reprehensible.
Incidentally, Rhea's description of how Shindzha's mother met her end was completely literal. That was not a metaphor. Which is why there was never a chance of Shindzha having any lingering loyalty for her old lord.
