So, here I am at Chapter 200, and I am now quite confident reaching Chapter 300 which I was predicting before that I would not. Each of the stops on the way to the resolution is taking longer than I imagine.
Hopefully I will learn from the experience of writing this novel how to estimate these things.
I still have a half-baked idea for another series set on Huade once I’m done with “Substitute Hero”, but it is still half-baked, and I may write a non-Huade series first.
I’m currently planning a non-Huade story, but I’m currently stuck at the transition between ‘creating an interesting scenario and characters’ and ‘creating an interesting story’. I have a number of sketches for other stories stuck at that same transition point, so this is nothing unusual for me. We’ll see how it goes.
My focus is on appealing the readers of this series, while presenting a new main character and new situations. This will be true whether the story is on Huade or in another universe. As I have said before, I will finish Tiana’s story whether I write the other thing or not, because nothing ticks me off worse than an author dropping a web series without wrapping it up. But I want to continue entertaining the readers I have, so that will be figuring into my decision making on the next series.
Probably, I will launch whatever I write next at the same time that I begin the final volume of Substitute Hero, so I have some time yet.
Incidentally, one of my ideas for a story on Huade involves a character of one of the other species. Possibly, a succubus. The challenge of writing a non-R18 story involving a succubus character appeals to me. But I’m also wondering what I could do with a male character on this world. Other things to consider, relocated Earth person vs. non-reincarnation/transmigrator, Orestania vs. some other location, aristocracy vs. commoner, etc. There are a lot of possibilities. I would be happy to hear my readers’ thoughts about this.
Let me thank everyone again for sticking with me through all of this. I know I’ve lost some readers, since you just can’t appeal to everyone. But I’m thrilled that I continue to gain new ones as well. It makes writing this worthwhile.
It’s probably starting to be clearer to readers what sort of woman Tiana is growing up to be, but she still has a lot to sort out as she discovers herself. I hope you will stick with me to find out how it goes.
