“Look at you, what have you been up to Alyphn, do you know how much i have missed you?,” i burrowed my face against her silky smooth tummy, taking in her scent. My companion rubbed her face against my hair in return.
“Do you know how boring it was while waiting for you, now that Master’s back Alyphn can finally play with you!” She said cheerfully. “Look! Look! I finally got my 9th tail! Are you proud of me Master!”
Alyphn unfurled her 9 tails gracefully, with all the elegance she can pose. Her lush and pristine white fur shone with ethereal beauty. The back of her ears and tip of her tails and feet are black with ornate patterns. She turned her head to the side proudly, but kept one eye open, as if waiting for a compliment from me.
“My little fox finally achieved divinity and became the Nine-tails. I am sooo proud. Is that what you want to hear? Come ‘ere you little rascal.” I pulled her in, attacking her on all sides with tickles.
After 5 minutes of messing around, we stopped and discuss what she did over the past millennia. When i first met Alyphn, i chanced upon her in the woods being chased by poachers. During that time, she was only one-tailed and could not defend herself from those strong poachers. I was in my teens but i was more than enough to take them on by myself.
After rescuing her, we bonded over time and agreed on a Summoning Contract. It was a two-way contract, i replenishes her with my life force and she shares her magic and fight with me. Her species need lots of life force to grow stronger, and i was the perfect partner for her. As a dragon, my life force was powerful, so it was more than enough for her needs.
Together we fought countless battles and she evolved over time, earning 7 more tails. The last time i saw her was when i was betrayed. Fearing for her safety, i immediately sent her away.
“So how did you get your ninth tail?” I asked.
“When you forced me out, i blamed myself for not being strong enough to stay by your side and protect you. Afterwards i thought you had died, but i felt a slither of life force from our contract. So i made it my mission to become the strongest in this world when you came back. After a millennium of challenging legendary and mystical beasts, i finally attained enlightenment and became one of top beast in this world.”

“None, after they betrayed you, they mysteriously went quite and disappeared off the map. Around the same time when they vanished, the Gods and dragonians appeared, proclaiming their dominance over the land. After a few millennia, the world has forgotten about the once mighty dragons, and now hail the dragonians as 𝘵𝘩𝘦 legendary race. The empire and kingdom pay tribute to them when they visit every 100 years. Their next visit will be in 5 years.”
“Are they really that strong? How has no one gone against them?”
“Well there was a Vampire Emperor 500 years ago who dared to challenge the Dragonian King, it resulted in a one-sided beat down, after that humiliating display from their emperor, the empire bowed their heads in submission and the rest of the kingdoms soon followed.”
“How do they look like?”
“They have all the characteristics of a dragon but without the dragon form. They have humanoid body with wings and scales but are unable to retract them. The strongest of them are able to produce dragon breath but it is one-forth the power of the original.”
“Hmm, their ability is awfully similar to us, seems like we have somehow created them.”
“That is a possibility.”

I swerved my head as i heard the sound of the door being unlocked. Parzival came in and I immediately looked back at Alyphn to see if he spotted her, thankfully she shapeshifted in time to a small snowy white fox with black tipped paws.
“Oh hey Parzival, nice timing, i have a question, what does it take to compete in the Inter-Kingdom Tournament?”
Parzival gave a curious glance at Alpyhn and answered, “You’ll have to be the top 10 fighter under the age of 21 in the kingdom to qualify. But since we are the top academy in the kingdom, the top 10 who competes from our kingdom will always be from our academy.”
“So i have to get within the top 10 in our school, got it.” I muttered to myself, but Parzival caught what i said.
“Wait wait wait, don’t tell me you are gonna do what i think you are gonna do. Are you out of your mind? I mean sure, you might be the most powerful person in the academy, but how would you compare to the vampires or the elves? I heard that there are at least a few deaths from the yearly competition.”
“You know, i think you might be underestimating me a bit,” i said while digging my knuckles into his head.
“Ouch ouch, alright i get it, but please be careful, i don’t wanna lose my only friend…”
“Heh don’t sweat it, those small fries won’t be enough to get rid of me.”

The day after the news got out that 3 noble house got stripped of their status, the entire kingdom was buzzing with commotion. The bodies of 3 skinless males with their hands and feet nailed to crosses in the middle of City Square, was a gruesome reminder to everyone that royal family was not to be trifled with.
In his dorm room, Markheil Crystalheart was beating up a few unlucky students while venting his anger. He was furious at the incompetence of the 3 who were unable to complete their task. Now that the class has gotten back from the dungeon trip, he saw Eric become closer to Anastasia than ever before. One thing he learnt from all this was that he could not depend on others to do the work for him. He had made up his mind.
“I’ll do it myself then, time to humiliate him in front of the whole school and show Anastasia how much better i am than that worthless piece of crap.”
