We Stepped out of the coffin and come out into the light. Ahh, It’s still a nice day even if I almost got killed this morning. It all worked out in the end though so I’m in no place to complain too much. I’ll Finally see some normal people! No offense..? wait a minute. I don’t even know her name. That’s BASIC! How could I forget to ask her name?
You know. I’m going to chalk that one up to the pressure I was feeling in there. This forest air has never smelled so good!
“By the way, I never introduced myself earlier. My names Krieg!”
“Mine’s Vanessa, It looks like we will be keeping each other company for a while so let’s work well together.”
She steps further into the light and spots the bodies of her captors piled beneath a tree nearby, which she hurries over to inspect. She looks at them for a bit before turning back to me.
“Do you recognize them?”
“No such luck.”
That doesn’t help her out much. I doubt she wants to get carried off again so I hope for her sake that she can find out who did this.
“Are you going to do that thing?”
“What thing?”
That’s way too vague, you can’t expect me to know what your meaning is with only that.
“Raise them.” She says matter of factly but with a twinge of something else on the edge. “They can be added to your skeleton group can’t they?”
“I can do something like that?”
“That’s one of the most basic spells for necromancers, isn’t it? How else did you accumulate these?”
She points to the skeletons still standing obediently to the side.
I stagger a bit. Is THAT what she thought I did?! No wonder she doesn’t trust me. Even now I still have the sense that she is keeping an eye on me. Even after her whole let’s work together spiel.
If she thinks I killed someone or stole a body for every one of these… it’s a miracle I’m still alive.
“There seems to have been a misunderstanding! Group Summon Skeleton!”
Hands break through the surface of the ground and before I can even react she flies over to me and my own dagger is once again settled snugly against my throat.
Old habits die hard.
“Put the knife down you crazed assassin!”
The skeletons finish pulling themselves from the ground. 10 of them in this group. And I quickly move them to the others. She watches the skeletons join their kind a distance away and soon the dagger is pulled away again.
“That’s the only spell I have to create them I swear!”
“There’s no way that’s the only spell. That’s a mid-tier Necromancer spell isn’t it?.. No, I give up. But don’t do that again without warning me or the knife won’t stop at your neck.”
“I got it! Who would be crazy enough to attack you anyways? I have the sneaking suspicion that even if I sent all of these skeletons at you you wouldn’t even break a sweat.”
Though someone clearly did… is it really safe for me to go to this town or will I just get my throat slit before I make it two steps into the city. Not everyone can be a raving lunatic can they? Yes, I need to make my resolve and set out with her. Higher risk higher reward after all!
“Anyways, I can’t raise them. They are pretty useless to me.”
“At least take the gear they have. It’s yours. You can sell it in town for some coin.” She looks around. “I think you might need some of that.”
With that, the conversation ended and I set off to my work. The skeletons looted the three while I stripped everything from the camp that I still had a need for. All of the remaining three hides, the waterskin, and the cloth were soon in the arms of my skeletons as we set off on our quest to reach Re’avire.
