Chapter 12 – Engineering License Lv1

The ability to innovate is what makes sentient beings more different than others.

With our minds, we can reshape the world.

From the sky to the earth, all across the ocean and even on other planets – people have used numerous resources for their own benefits.

Natural metals and chemical substances have many purposes, and one of the most common things that people use them for was as a source of energy, generators to be exact.

We’re talking about the type used for fuel and power that eases the daily lives of many.

And now Luon is tasked to make such a thing, only the guideline for his instructions was very vague.

What kind of generator should he make? How is this test graded? Luon thought as he stared over the materials that he could use.

Without a doubt amongst these materials were a few that feel like tricks, or so it seems. Otherwise, these particular items should feel slightly sorry for themselves to be called materials if they had feelings.

Luon blatantly ignores the bowl of oranges and lemons occupying a part of the table as he contemplated on what type of generator he should make.
Luon was not going to wire a light bulb with a couple of fruits and call it quits. This examination would probably evaluate the output and capabilities of the generator. He could try recreating the basic electrical generator found in the olden days back in the first simulation.

But with the advancement of technology such an old relic will without a doubt fail him during this test.

At a loss to where to start Luon decided to do the basic steps first and decide how to handle the source of energy later.

To create a generator, one must have a source of energy, a container to store it, and a method to use it.

With that being said Luon gazed over the table of materials and tools and using his BMPU he had the basic understanding of how to use them.

Immediately he started doing the drudge work of creating the container. Instead of pondering what to do, it’s easier to take action!

Sometimes once you get going the task is done before you even notice it, with such pure thoughts Luon worked on the container for the generator.

As if a switch was turned on Luon concentration levels increased drastically as he picked up some metals and began to work with the furnace and anvil.

With a frown, Shizuka watched Luon’s initial actions with disappointment.
Belle seeing Shizuka expression asked, “Is he already doing something wrong?”

“Well, what do you think? Before he decided on what kind of energy he should use, he already started crafting the catalyst. Does he honestly think that every single material works well with every type of energy? Mana could only flow better in certain materials like Mythril or orichalcum ore, and qi energy can only be useful in very dense rare metals found later in the advanced version of the periodic table of elements. What he just did right now is picked up some normal copper, and other metals making something like motherboard found in those ancient systems and started crafting a miniature power bank,” said Shizuka as she severely criticized Luon’s work method.

Shizuka hoped that she could open her friend’s eyes by belittling Luon as much as possible. However, Belle wasn’t able to comprehend her intentions as she quietly asked. “But isn’t the task is to make a simple generator? Doesn’t this power bank serve its purpose? Couldn’t he pass the test with just that?”

“The examination for the Engineering isn’t hard for us to judge, the appraisal system and our judges dictate most of the work,” Shizuka said as she shook her head.

Something called a product evaluation number dictates the examination scoring system.

To pass the first examination one needed to score at least 5 points.
To get these points, three judges could rate a score between 1 to 5, and the average number would be added to the appraisal score.

The rarity given by the BMPU determines the appraisal score. If what Luon created ended up as a regular item than the score would be 1. If the product were a rare item, it would be 2, with a higher rarity, the candidates can obtain more points.

Also if the judges find that the product does not meet the requirements set by the task, they are allowed to fail the candidate instantly as long as they all agree.

“If you say any more secrets it may make it more troublesome if any of this were to leak out, even if you’re my daughter you have to follow the rules.” A voice came out of nowhere interrupted Shizuka’s explanation as a middle-aged man walked in.

“My apologies, father,” Shizuka said.

The man and Belle did a light greeting as they already knew each other.

This man was the current head of the Novera Corporation despite not being an engineer. His name was Dio Ichihara, and he married into the Ichihara family out of pure love with Shizuka’s mother, he was formerly a commander on the battlefield, but after an injury, he retired to help lead projects with the intention of lowering the number of casualties on the front-lines.

Dio looked at the screen with interest and asked the details on who was on display from the two of them.

“Father, do you honestly think that he would be able to pass this examination?” Shizuka said as she questioned her father.

“I think that young man has what it takes, you should probably look at what he’s doing now. It just got a little more interesting.” Dio said as he smiled mysteriously.

Shizuka and Belle after hearing Dio’s words as they turned to face the screen only to be shocked at what they found on the screen.

When Luon was crafting the container to hold and use the energy, he thought of the many types of energy he could use.

Last night after Luon saw the Ivar swung his cool weapon around in the simulation he couldn’t sleep a wink.

Luon spent that night researching about this eras weapon systems in hopes in one day being able to craft something as amazing as them.

As he searched, Luon came to an understanding that most of the equipment used either mana or qi energy for high energy products while using solar power for the lower end appliances.

However, the study in understanding the usage of mana and qi energy was very vague. The way people talked about it online had no scientific explanations for them it was all just a feeling. Luon tried to recall that during his first simulation it was also the same. He didn’t discover the new type of energy but misguided by the world to learn it.

How could Luon bring himself to use something that seemed so unrealistic in his craftsmanship? Magic for combat was fine for Luon – but to use it in the scientific field without understanding it was a gigantic disgrace.

But if he didn’t use it, he felt that he would fail this test, and everyone seems to use it without understanding it.

After he finished crafting the power bank, he began to think hard about how to develop the power source.

Luon set his eyes over the materials once again, and his eyes fell on the bowl of oranges and lemons.

‘Well, worse case scenario I would have to use these fruits after all energy does flow the same way… wait for a second,’ Luon thought but all the sudden he had a bright idea.

Flow, all sources of energy when being used for many different purposes have a period where it gets transferred from the source to the tool.

In the more electrical field, this could be measured in units known as ampere quite commonly known as Amps.

What if this device was able to gather its own source of energy? Something along the lines of solar powered panels, however, there is no time for it to accumulate that much energy.

And powering a device by injecting mana would be too generic and dull for this test.

‘But with this idea, I might be on to something.’ Thought Luon as he began to craft a sword to use the generator’s energy. He also took some time to reshape the generator to fit his new type of energy source.

After a few moments what laid in front of him was a sword and a generator with no energy whatsoever attached to it.

Immediately he used his privileges to request for some materials for his power source, and within moments a there was a sealed package place on the materials table.

He immediately poured the material over his generator, and as if it was alive the generator greedily absorbed it.

What laid in front of Luon was a broad red sword as the material he requested was, blood.

Blood energy, all living things need it to operate, why couldn’t weapons do the same thing? Was is it because of how inhumane it sounded? A weapon was made to kill in the first place, so Luon didn’t overthink about it.

Luon satisfied with his work placed his sword on the appraisal table and out of curiosity used him BMPU to evaluate it.

[Unnamed Bloody Sword]

[Rank – Unique]

[Attack – 900]

[Durability – 500/500]

[A sword fueled by the blood of its enemies sharpens and tempers itself.]

[Perk 1 – Drain]

[Perk 2 – Regenerate]

A few minutes after Luon laid his new creation on top of the appraisal table the doors to the room opened up as the lady from before came in.

“Congratulations Luon Fate, I have received your results, and you have just passed the examination with a score of 5. This is your Engineering License Card, with it you can access any part of the faculty resources and website with the authority level of 1.” The lady receptionist said.

The receptionist pulled him and formally gave Luon a silver card, and she then continued, “Your friend is waiting for you outside waiting to hear how well you did.”

Hearing that Belle was just outside although he didn’t know how good a score of 5 was all he had in his mind was to celebrate his new accomplishment with someone.

Luon after receiving his card thanked the receptionist and then asked if he can keep the sword. The receptionist nodded, and he quickly left the room with it to share his joy with his friend.

When Luon found Belle, he met a new face beside her.

She was another beautiful girl, with a short raven black hair with a little curl at the tips. She wore a simple black uniform worn by all the other members of the Novera Corporation members, and she had a black cap to top it off.

Belle introduced her as Shizuka, one of her friends but for some reason all this girl did was stare at Luon without saying a word.

Luon was a little creeped out by the girl who stared at him intensely which killed the joy he just built up. After a saying a few words to the two he left immediately.

As Luon left the building, he stopped to look at his new weapon. Luon then remembers how powerful Ivar was as he swung his weapon around. With that thought, Luon felt a little dissatisfied with his latest creation.

He then recalled his previous simulations experiences. His powerlessness had made him lose so many things that were close to him, and his foolishness causes him to die pathetically.

Luon was determined to walk a bloody path if that could protect his loved ones and live a long life. With that ideal in his mind, he walked home with strength.

Seeing Luon leave Shizuka had only one thought, ‘How can father prefer an engineer like him over me? I am the genius of the generation, blood? How savage but I can’t deny its effectiveness. It looks like there are some interesting people in my generation.’

She turned around and walked away with determination declared in her mind, ‘The best engineer in this generation is me!’

“Old man why did you let him pass? The task was a generator, not a weapon.” one of the judges said dissatisfied.

“Yeah, creating a blood-powered sword is a little too insane. How would people judge us if we let people like him in our organization?” said another.

Out of the 5 points, Luon scored he received 3 points from the appraisal system by making a unique item, and 2 from the judges. The two dissatisfied judges gave Luon a score of 1, but the last judge gave him a 4.

“Well, why do you think we need generators? Obviously to kill, so why not give this kid the chance to make even more deadly weapons? He could have used mana or qi like everyone else, but he used blood, its power source is reusable and simple. If I had to point something out his craftsmanship is a little lacking, but if he gets well-trained the things he makes are going to be stellar.” said the last judge who was Shizuka’s father, Dio.

“Ho, and whos going to train this madman? Nobody I know would be willing teaching this freak.” said the first judge.

“Well, who else can do it better than the Demonic Crafter? Although his shop is not that legal he still provides excellent tools to fight the damn Inzektors. I already sent him a video.” Dio said with a smile.

“You’re crazy, to train under that man? All he thinks about is killing.” said the second judge.

“Well maybe to change the future we need some more crazy people,” Dio said as he turned off the chat, he closed his eyes as recalled something good.

‘The next few years are going to be a bit more interesting,’ thought Dio.
