Chapter 16 – With Overwhelming Power

The match between Shizuka and Arisa so far was tense.

Blades sharply clash against each other as the number blows and slashes in this single match easily surpassed the normal contestants.

And now this battlefield was covered by dust, it was unknown to everyone who the victor was.

Everyone except Luon of course as he used his Eye of Insight to penetrate through the dust storm.

His ability not only allow him to analyze the opponent as accurately as the appraisal skill but it does it several times faster, and it also improved his vision.

What surprised Luon the most was how much their combat levels changed after equipping the NG-Arms. After the Shizuka and Arisa had equipped the NG-Arms their combat levels had been raised by about 20 levels clearly displaying the power of mechanized weaponry.

Luon began to imagine what it would be like to own something like that but then he shook away those thoughts. To his knowledge NG-Arms are extremely expensive with the value of a basic one exceeding the costs of a typical family yearly income 3 years over, about 100 000 Galaxia Coins.

Looking closely at the fight Luon saw that Arisa equipped with her NG-Arms had a greater combat value than Shizuka at the current moment.

If nothing were to change than this match would be Arisa’s victory. But one of the factors that Luon wasn’t able to dictate with his Eye of Insight skill was the details about the skills the examined target owns. As if protected by a mysterious barrier although he can see the name of the skill he wasn’t able to see the description of anyone else’s except his own.

All the sudden the fight took an unexpected twist as Arisa aura began to rise once again dissipating the dust-covered fog outwards.

Arisa charged at Shizuka who also followed suit.

Strangely enough, Shizuka smiled as if she admired Arisa power, and that smile was dazzling in Luon’s eyes. It seemed to Luon that Shizuka had already expected these results, but she still dared to face it, and that made her efforts admirable from his perspective.

And with the next clash between the two, the fight had ended.

“Looks like I lost…” Shizuka sighed as she slowly got up exhausted.

“You would have had a better chance at winning if you spent your time training instead of studying blueprints or thinking of new weapon designs all the time,” Arisa commented on her remark with a sly smile.

Shizuka shook her head, “I can’t do so, my family is destined to be engineers leading the way to the future of humanity. We weren’t suited for combat in the first place.”

“Well then according to the agreement looks like I won.” Arisa pointed out the fact that they were still competing.

“How about we compete in what I specialize in next? ” Shizuka replied back sharply.

“Oh, then how after that, how about we compete in what my family specializes in next,” Arisa replied unfazed by Shizuka determination for victory.

Afterall Arisa’s family did not specialize in combat but in command, with the longevity of vampires and specialized skills and traits they were the perfect commanders with the only downside being their low birth rates. They were a small group of specialists with decades of experience.

Shizuka thought about it but decided to accept the loss and no longer continue their competition as there was no way to compete against Arisa in commanding and combat with only her engineering abilities.

The two of them return to the stand unfazed and unperturbed by their classmates admiring cheers, looks of envy and appreciation of beauty.

Captain Waver seeing how the two’s demeanor nodded his head in admiration of the teachings of those from famous families. They weren’t overbearing and didn’t get haughty and overestimate themselves.

He then decided to proceed with the next match and the machine began to shoot out the next match up.

“Hey, Luon, look you’re up next, and your opponent is a tough one,” Gizmo said as he nudged at Luon to pay attention to the matchmaking board.

With Gizmo word’s Luon turned to face the display with confidence, although his physical fitness could use some improvements his skills made him impeccable as long as they were equal in strength.

On display, the opponent listed to fight Luon was named Zythos Werebringer.

Werebringer, this family name Luon clearly remembers from his short month of study was also one of the 4 major factions leaders. The Mythos clan which is heralded as a slap-up party of mighty warriors and soldiers with bio-genetic enhancements.

Thinking about how powerful Arisa and Shizuka were when they came from a commander and engineering families Luon expects one this match too be several times harder. After all, a warrior from such a famous family would be an extremely troublesome foe.

Luon got up from the stands and entered the battlefield, he may not be able to win, but the match isn’t over until only one man is standing.

Luckily for him when Luon examined the stage earlier using his Eye of Insight, he found out that there was a death prevention mechanism installed, so he didn’t have to worry about anything. He was determined to see his limits today.

As Luon approached and arrived at the battleground, he saw his opponent just entering at the same time.

Zythos Werebringer was a werewolf. Luon expected him to look more human, but he was more like a bipedal wolf with his scary wolf face with fangs. However, Luon did notice something very human about him, his arrogant demeanor.

Zythos swaggered down to opposite side of Luon with a bunch of beastmen following behind him appreciating and complimenting him like a rich young master. In front of that huge mob of bootlickers was a little rabbitkin in the lead and from what Luon could recall from the earlier matches named was Chester Hoppins.

When they saw Luon look over, they tried to intimidate him a bit, but Luon paid no heed which angered them slightly. They told their young master to wipe the floors with Luon and called him ignorant and began to demean him. Zythos nodded his head with those remarks and then told his henchmen to stop and watch as he easily beats Luon down.

As Zythos approached the stage, Luon secretly used his Eye of Insight skill to determine Zythos strength, and to no surprise, his values would make him a difficult opponent for Luon to face.

[Zythos Werebringer]

[Race: Werewolf]

[Job: Student]

[Combat Level: 38/38]

[Racial Skills: Power of Darkness, Bestial Empowerment, Enhanced Senses]

[Active Skills: Render, Energy Manipulation…]

[Passive Skills: Bio-enhancements]

Right away after seeing Zythos abilities although he didn’t have the most accurate description of everything he expects this match with Zythos would be a very close physical battle as long as Zythos doesn’t have an NG-Arms.

Zythos list of skills and his combat level made Luon reason that his physical prowess would be several times higher than Luon but since it was still under level 40, his technical skills might not be up to par with Luon.

“Hmph, another weakling how about you go under my wing? If you want we can get your body to be enhanced like this.” Zythos began to show off his muscular body, and with every pose, his followers would make a fuss about it.

Unfazed by Zythos’s show Luon said sternly. “No need, let’s just start.”

Hearing Luon’s rude remark he intimidatingly stared at Luon as if facing a dead man and said. “Do you not know who I am? And you still want to face me with your weak body? Hahaha, another that can’t properly evaluate his foes such an ignorant youth let me enlighten you.”

Luon sighed at Zythos words which further increased Zythos anger.

“Puny weak human I will waste you quickly before you can even realize what had happened,” Zythos bellowed.

With that remark, the battle had started, and without another word from Zythos, he charged at Luon intending to end the match with a single move.

As Luon expected Zythos was going to use fist and claws to fight as he analyzed that the opponent had no weapon related skills and only physical empowering ones.

Luon brought out his sword to compete with Zythos, although using a weapon seemed unfair their physical strength were too different to compare.

“Hahaha, a puny stick like that would shatter easily from my fist.” Zythos laughed and with a swing his arm was coated with Qi energy clashed with Luon’s uncharged blood-powered sword.

The power behind Zythos was immense it was an attack with zero technique whatsoever and filled with the strength of many different enhancements, Luon had no choice but to use some sword skills to repel off the attack.

Zythos seeing how Luon was able to repel his first attack smiled, he ruthlessly began to initiate a barrage against Luon and with his quick speed and heavy attacks Luon was pressured intensely.

“What’s wrong! Where did all your boasting go? Without muscles like this, there is no way for you to win.” Zythos hyped over his overpowering display although surprised at how Luon was still standing, he arrogantly attacked Luon as if there was no possible way for Luon to come back.

Luon tried to repel the attacks calmly but Zythos was right, the pace was entirely under Zythos control, no matter what Luon did to equalize the difference using techniques Zythos was reaction speed and body control made up for that difference. At first, it was slightly equal, but Luon’s body began to tire from the constant attacks with no breaks in between.

Luon brained overclocked into finding a solution while repelling the attacks – the Parallel Thoughts skill was beneficial here and operated like the multiple cores located on the processor of a computer – Luon began to recall any information he could to turn the match into his favor.

From the attack pattern of Zythos, the comparison in physical strength, the additional skills yet to be revealed, and the racial traits, history, and myths behind werewolves Luon factored as many things as he could to find an optimal solution for this mess.

And like a beacon of light, a couple of ideas came to his mind as he fought, as for the effectiveness?

He can only find out now or never.
