After climbing the tower that decimated humanity, he was aching to return home.
Mom, Dad . . .
The white light enveloped him, along with the rest of his comrades.
I’m coming home.
He smiled warmly at his allies, his closest confidantes over the difficult years. His gaze settled on a certain individual.
And . . . maybe I might bring you the female friend you always wanted to meet.
The tears he had been suppressing for so long ran freely down his cheeks.
He shook his head, eyes glancing at the boss’s carcass, looking to see if it would revive once again.
In case this was all a dream.

It lay still.
He let out the breath he’d been holding.
Praise Aphelia.
He turned around—

And that was when it hit him.
That sharp pain. It jolted through his body like lightning.

Was he falling?
His eyes spun, briefly locking onto her angelic face.
Before he could say anything, the whole world turned black.

Upon opening his eyes, he was not met with the familiar sight of Earth but an empty, lifeless void.
The first thing he thought of was her.
The second thought was when he realized:
