Chapter 25: Hope

“If you were born during the war, you would have the ultimate good life. Unfortunately, you’re born in the wrong era that is too peaceful. You have a lot of blessings but no use for it. So your body could not sustain it and started to weaken,” Qi Yan observed Cen Baihe’s expression and noticed that he looked very calm. So he continues, “Normally, those like you would not be born during a peaceful time. In exceptional cases, all of them passed away early.”

Hearing the words “pass away”, Cen Baihe lowered his eyes and asked calmly, “Why?”

“Perhaps heaven doesn’t allow you to be born at the wrong time,” Qi Yan looked at the heavy rain outside and said, “But there is still hope.”

Cen Baihe looked at his side profile. Perhaps he had exerted too much energy in the alley just now, his face looked pale. No one would have expected that he, who had an innocent baby face, was brave enough to rescue a girl from an attacker and spent so much effort trying to save strangers.

He gazed calmly at the distance. There was a hint of smile at the corners of his mouth, “If someone were to tell me that three days ago, I wouldn’t have believed a word of it.”

Qi Yan turned to look at him.

“But I believe you now,” There was a hint of relief in his tone that was never there before, “I believe that there’s hope.”

“At the risk of sounding narcissistic, I still have to say this,” Since his tongue was injured, Qi Yan spoke slowly, “The solution might seem easy, but it’s actually really difficult. Almost no one had heard about luck-borrowing. Even if they had, they wouldn’t know how to do it.”

To ordinary people, it was just a matter of lending and borrowing, but to a sorcerer, this involved the heavenly principles and human fate. Besides, there were very few people who had such an overwhelming amount of blessings. Who would think that luck could be borrowed? So they just concluded that one could never offend those who had too many blessings, otherwise they might face a disaster. No one dared to even think about borrowing their luck.

But Qi Yan was not like these people. Even though he had less practical experience, he had a master whose background was unknown but who was very skillful. He had been taught things that other sorcerers didn’t know about and even guided them to solve problems.

In the past, he taught that his master was too free

“Then what do I need to do?” Cen Baihe saw that he was panting as he spoke and gave him a bottle of water, “Drink some water.”

“When you’re free, come with me to save the world.”

The car fell silent after he said that. A cheerful romantic music was playing in the car, as though a couple was dancing in the streets. The light-hearted music alleviated the awkwardness in the car.

Cen Baihe suddenly laughed, “Alright, remember to call me next time.”

The bodyguard couldn’t help but turn to look at Fifth Master Cen and Qi Yan. Was Fifth Master Cen entering a quarter-life crisis?

Save the world…why don’t they just save the galaxy?

Qi Yan smiled and drank a sip of water. He liked people who were straightforward.

Cen Baihe saved his life, so he would give him a long and comfortable life.

Soon, they reached the area where Qi Yan lived. Cen Baihe handed him an umbrella. “See you.”

“See you.” Qi Yan opened the umbrella and realized that it was of Cen Baihe’s style. A blue umbrella with no patterns on it. After taking two steps, Qi Yan heard Cen Baihe call out to him.

“Qian Qian, hold on!”

Qi Yan turned around. How did Cen Baihe know his nickname?

“Here.” Cen Baihe stretched out his arm from the window and it was soon wet from the rain. Qi Yan stretched out the umbrella and blocked the rain for him. He realized that he was giving him a name card.

Qi Yan laughed. He had just remembered that they were friends, but had no way to contact each other.

“The rain is heavy. Go home early to rest. This is my private number. You can call me anytime.” Cen Baihe smiled at Qi Yan, “Remember to send me a text later.”

“Sure.” Qi Yan waved at him and walked toward the small residential area.

Cen Baihe watched as he disappeared behind the gate and slowly rolled up the window. His face was still smiling.

The bodyguard looked worriedly at Cen Baihe wet sleeve, “Fifth master, there are some spare shirts in the car, would you like to change?”

“No need,” Cen Baihe used his handkerchief to wipe the back of his hand, “Let’s go back.”

After going into the elevator, Qi Yan closed the umbrella. As the elevator door was about to shut, he noticed a young lady who had her hands full running towards the elevator. He kept the door open and the young lady was able to get in. She thanked him softly.

“You’re welcome,” Qi Yan looked at the snacks in her hands and asked, “Which floor?”

“6th, thanks.” The young lady replied as she saw that Qi Yan had already pressed the button to his floor.

After Qi Yan pressed the button for her, he stepped to the side. When he was in a small space with the opposite sex, he would stand a little further to the side and not behind them in order to ease their nervousness.

Indeed, after he stepped away, the lady relaxed. When she stepped out of the elevator, she thanked him again.

Lin Yu was an introvert. She wouldn’t go out unless it’s necessary. Fortunately she worked in a book publishing company, so she didn’t have to interact much with others. Besides, her parents were not in Capital City, so she was not pressured to go out.

Usually she wouldn’t go out to buy these things. Instead, she would just order them online. But today, the internet was down and her phone stopped working. So she had to go to the repair shop and buy some snacks on the way back.

After putting the snacks on the sofa, she opened the writers’ forum and sent a message excitedly.

Lin Yu: I met a really handsome gentleman in the elevator. Most importantly, he’s really cute. My girlish heart has been reignited!

Lin Yu typed them out without an expression and logged out. Then she started to browse on Weibo. On the homepage, he saw a video titled “Witty Handsome Guy Bravely Fought Gangsters”. The post had been forwarded more than 10,000 times and had garnered about 80,000 likes. So she played it out of curiosity.

The footage was shaky and there was a lot of background noise. It was a proposal scene that turned into kidnapping. When she saw the young man who saved the young woman, she thought that he looked familiar.

But the video quality was low, so his face was unclear. But she could still see that the young man had a good figure, his long legs were especially noticeable.

It was not surprising that the comment section was filled with compliments for the brave, smart and handsome young man. Some of them even asked for his contact number.

Lin Yu reposted the video with a cute emoji. Just as she was about to continue scrolling, the light in the room went out.

She sighed. This was a frequent occurrence. It seemed like the lights kept going out in the recent months. She suspected that there was a problem with the wiring.

Using the faint light emitting from her phone screen, she took a bag of snacks and went to her room. She turned on the bedside lamp and continued writing her unfinished novel.

Even though reality was dry and uninteresting, she could create a world filled with earth-shattering love and death for her protagonists.

When Cen Baihe arrived home, it was dinner time. When he came down after changing, food was already served.

When he sat down, First Master Cen took a few glances at him but he did not react, so he asked, “Baihe, I heard that you went to a nightclub? I thought that I heard it wrong.”

Baihe never liked noisy places since he was young and he never drank or smoked. It was too shocking to know that he went there all of a sudden.

“Yes.” Cen Baihe took a piece of duck meat that he didn’t usually eat and started eating it elegantly. For some reason, he thought that the food on the table looked especially good today, so he couldn’t resist.

When First Master Cen saw that his brother ate an entire duck leg, he forgot about the matter regarding the nightclub and started to wonder why he had such a good appetite suddenly.

A few days ago, his appetite had improved, but it wasn’t as much as today. He had never seen his brother ate a whole duck leg in his life.

“Brother,” First Master Cen handed him a bowl of soup, “Have you crossed over to another realm?”

Cen Baihe put down his chopsticks and wiped his mouth, “Brother, have you been watching tv shows with First Sister-in-law?”

First Master Cen: …

Qi Yan didn’t know that he had become so popular. When he turned on the television, the local news station was conducting an interview.

A young lady who was wearing a white cap and holding a bag of roasted duck spoke shyly to the camera, “The kind man gave this roasted duck to me before he left and asked me to look after it.” The camera panned to the manager of the shop that sold roasted ducks. She said emotionally that the kind and anonymous hero would never have to pay nor line up at their shop.

Qi Yan remembered the roasted duck and switched off the television quietly. Even though her offer was tempting, he felt that he couldn’t walk past the restaurant again.

After all…he was the anonymous hero Master Qi.

Dear Readers. Scrapers have recently been devasting our views. At this rate, the site (creativenovels .com) might...let's just hope it doesn't come to that. If you are reading on a scraper site. Please don't.

It was just a pity that he couldn’t eat the roasted duck that he had lined up half an hour for.
