Chapter 2558 The Price of Pain

Young yet calm voice, when he asked them quietly, it made them feel a sense of security

These were the soldiers who had risked their lives to save them; after hearing them speaking Mandarin and explaining that they were soldiers deployed by their home to rescue them, they immediately felt safe.

Since they’re here, then they can rest assured.

This was the sense of security soldiers give them, with them around, as if whatever happens, whatever danger they would encounter, would just turn into paper tigers in front of these men in military outfits.

“We’re fine, comrade; quickly take a look at Old Fu; he’s injured; hurry up and let him take a look.” A geologist said immediately, “The wound is under the ribs; quickly help him treat it.”

Facing his future father-in-law, Xia Jinyuan couldn’t help but to soften his voice slightly, “Chief Engineer Fu, I’m going to help you treat your wound. It’s too deep, and it hadn’t been treated in some time; it is very likely to be infected.”

Ye Jian, who was keeping watch while leaning against the wall heard him, and gently blinked her eyes; she didn’t turn her head as her gaze stared sharply into the darkness ahead of her.

“My problem isn’t too big, but I can confirm it’s already infected. If time allows it, then I will accept your treatment.” Fu Yusheng was also a soldier; he deeply knew the severity of the situation, as well as the urgency of time. If he was going to delay everyone by getting his wounds treated, he’d rather not.

“We won’t take too long, just a simple disinfection.” Xia Jinyuan had already opened up his sanitary bag, then heard his future father-in-law asking, “I have a guard with me; he and I were held in different locations since you guys managed to find this place tonight. Does that mean you have already saved him?”

……

Opening the micro-flashlight in his hands, then adjusting the brightness to the lowest, Xia Jinyuan pushed the flashlight into Lin Feng’s hands, then he answered with pursed lips, “When we found him, we couldn’t rescue him, we’ll have to wait until we deliver you to the plane first, then we will return to where he was imprisoned, we will definitely save him.”

Chief Engineer Fu’s hand that was unbuttoning his shirt shook; he raised his head and quietly listened to the soldier who was speaking to him; the flashlight was too dim, so dim that he couldn’t even see the face of the soldier talking to him, all he could manage was hear the tautness in his voice.

And it was that tautness that made his heart fall.

“Is it because he was already a goner at that time? That’s why you can’t save him, is that right?” When Chief Engineer Fu spoke, sorrow already flowed from him.

Xia Jinyuan couldn’t bear to answer; he gently nodded his head, “Sir, please lie down; I’m going to help you disinfect your wound with alcohol.” If they could save him, as long as there was a sliver of hope that he could be saved, none of them would give up on him.

But there wasn’t…. There really wasn’t; when Blue Bird left, that security guard held a smile on his face and forever closed his eyes.

He knew his mission was over; he had successfully waited until his countrymen had come over to pick up his final task… with his remaining energy and winking life, he had completed the handing off of his life.

That’s why, when he closed his eyes, the young security guard wore a shallow smile on his face.

He who had completed his mission could finally leave this world peacefully.

“He was just… twenty-four, what a good lad, not even married… gone, just like that.” Chief Engineer Fu closed his eyes; even if the alcohol was irritating the wound he had made by digging with his fingertips, it still hadn’t held down the sorrow on his face.

Xia Jinyuan saw the bloody mess of an injury on him, and his pupils shrunk immediately.

Lin Feng, who was shining the flashlight, also saw it, but he didn’t manage to hold it in, and he drew in a breath of cold air.

“Thi-thi-this… how did you get hurt like this?” He was even stammering over his questions; it was too terrifying. It was a bloody mess, and with pieces of flesh dangling over, there wasn’t even a smooth spot on his wound!
