Alex came inside the cafeteria, thinking about her time table. She organized assignments and tests according to priority. Their teachers really had no mercy now that they were in their 3rd year. School just started 2 days ago and there were already a number of things needed to do. Not to mention, her club activities…
As she laid them out in her head, she went in line to buy some food.
“Good afternoon, what can I get ya?” The server asked when it Alex’s turn came up. After the dinner she had last night, she still felt quite full so she narrowed down her choices between spaghetti and burgers.
“I’ll have the spaghetti” Alex answered.
The server handed her the meal with a smile,”Enjoy.”
Alex smiled back, “Thank you.”
She put the spaghetti on her tray then, she grabbed a plate of grapes and a bottle of water from the top of the glass food display where an assortment of snacks were placed.
When Alex sat at her usual table, she immediately took out her planner and wrote the to-do list she thought of earlier but she still felt unsure of a few things.
Like a certain English project that needed sorting out…
Logan easily found Alex after he paid for his plate of burger and fries. After a few steps towards his table, he stopped.
He suddenly felt uncertain if he should approach Alex or not. They left on bad terms. Again. Logan sighed. He didn’t know why but things just seem to end that way. Maybe he shouldn’t have insisted on his terms. After the argument, he realized they sounded actually ridiculous and inconvenient.
Unless Alex and Xandra ended up being the same person…, he speculated. No! Not that again. I already made Xandra cry over that, if Alex also cried, I’d have to jump over a cliff.
Logan pressed his lips together. Maybe he should try again. If things became better, he may not need Xandra’s help after all and return the phone to Alex.
With his determination restored, Logan walked over to Alex’s table. He found his new best friend scrutinizing at something inside his notebook. He scrapped the chair loudly but Alex didn’t seem to hear him. Logan opened his mouth but Alex’s demon eyes from earlier appeared in his mind. He figured it was better to leave him alone for the time being. Once Alex was done then, he can talk to him. Logan hung his head low and took a few bites of his burger.
Alex was stuck. The Romeo and Juliet project was due Friday next week and it was currently Tuesday. They roughly had two weeks left but the basketball team had an upcoming game so Logan would most likely be unavailable this week… but if he had the time to come to her house, he must have some free time.
She just wasn’t sure if there was enough time to get all of them done. New projects were given out in Math and Chemistry. Both took up a lot of time. Not to mention all the episodes she had to catch up on Netflix and chapter updates on Webnovel…
It looked like her weekend will be fully booked but she needed some time allowance in case a project would take longer than she expected…
Her stomach grumbled. Ah, shoot! She couldn’t believe she almost forgot about lunch.
Alex set aside her notebook and focused on her lunch tray. She twirled a forkful of spaghetti and ate it. She chewed it softly. The red sauce had a sweet and sour taste to it, an Asian cuisine influence for sure. Cafeteria food had never failed her. Whoever was in charge of the menu had good taste.
She lifted her legs up to rest her feet at the chair on the opposite side of the table, like she always did, but where she expected to find the seat was something else instead.
Alex squealed as she hit a pair of knees.
She tilted her head up, eyes wide. Seated before her was none other than the top of Logan Parker’s dark brown hair.
Logan had felt something hit his knees and had checked under the table. He spotted a pair of sneakers hanging in midair before they landed on the floor.
When he turned his head back up, he met Alex’s eyes which slowly darkened at him.
“What are you doing here?” Alex hissed. It seemed that her cold demeanor earlier was ineffective. If it weren’t for the project, she wouldn’t even continue speaking to him. She’d honestly would rather forget about the phone since she had intended for Logan and Xandra to have zero ties after that incident.
Why the hell did Logan come up with a ridiculous request? The matter was meant to be simple.
If she had noticed early on that Logan didn’t return the phone, she wouldn’t be in this mess.
“Hello to you too, Romeo” Logan placed down his burger on the plate, “I know we had our arguments but I’m really serious about being friends.”
“What if I don’t want to be friends? Did you think of that?”
Logan fell silent. He didn’t understand what was wrong. Why was a person so adamant on pushing people away? Suddenly, he wasn’t so sure if he had the patience for what he signed up for, “I—”
Alex didn’t wait for Logan to answer. He brought his attention back on the spaghetti in front of him. Dejected, Logan stared at the table. He had no right to question Alex’s decisions when he hadn’t figured out his own intentions.
Why did he want to be friends?
