Chapter 41

When everyone saw Liu Ying carrying Liu Jue as he rushed into the generals’ residence, they were so frightened that their limbs weakened. A doctor was already waiting and Liu Ying peeled off Liu Jue’s armor, seeing that his shirt inside had been stained red and half of his body soaked in blood. Liu Ying’s eyes were rimmed red with anguish.

The doctor cut open Liu Jue’s clothes carefully. A thin, slender wound on his right chest was exposed. It was still bleeding. Liu Ying unintentionally roared, “Hurry and stop the bleeding! If he bleeds on like this, he’ll bleed dry!”

The doctor shook from his roar. Fortunately, he was a military doctor and had seen many bleeding injuries. As it was General Ping Nan who was injured, all good medicines were brought out. After stopping the bleeding and fixing up the wound, he opened his mouth and said, “The sword did not pierce any vital points and it was not too serious. It’s just that he had lost too much blood.”

Liu Ying roared again, “What do you mean? Just what exactly does that mean?”

“It does not mean anything. With the general’s physique, he will be lively and active after laying down for ten days to half a month. He’s unconscious right now due to excessive blood loss and will be fine after being patched up.” The doctor replied while looking at Liu Ying coldly.

Only then did Liu Ying feel relieved and when he turned his head, most of the anxiousness in the eyes of the black-clothed force disappeared. One after another, they left the inner hall and resumed their positions.

When he finished dealing with the city’s affairs, Gu Tian Xiang also rushed to the generals’ residence. After listening to Liu Ying and the doctor explain the situation in detail, he looked at Liu Jue lying on the ** and felt relieved, “So it wasn’t fatal!”

Liu Ying had long become accustomed to his attitude. He replied politely, “How could my Lord be willing to die, he’s still waiting to drink Intoxication with you, general.”

Gu Tian Xiang glanced at Liu Ying coldly, “Learning nothing but a glib tongue from your master!”

Liu Ying smiled slightly, “Thanking the general for the praise. It is a small blessing to have learned to become even a fraction of my Lord!”

Gu Tian Xiang turned his head, no longer looking at him. He thought to himself that one day, he should hurry up and marry Ying Xiu so that this pair of the master and servant would not make fun of him all day long.

At this moment, a beautiful lady with a loose cloud bun rushed in, her hands grasping her trailing skirt, her anxious expression adding to her graceful demeanor. Gu Tian Xiang was stunned. When had the generals’ mansion hidden such an incomparable lady?

Liu Ying greeted her and said, “Third Miss, my Lord was struck with a sword in the right side of his chest and has lost too much blood…”

Ah Luo had been worried about the battle and had not slept, only nodding off wearily. She woke up again when she heard noises and hurried footsteps outside the door. Opening the door and asking, she realised that Liu Jue was injured and had been brought back to the residence. She was shocked and suddenly became flustered. Hastily, she had ran out of the room. The two guards from the black-clothed force at the door had not stopped her and had followed her closely to Liu Jue’s room.

She interrupted Liu Ying’s words, “Will he die?” Liu Jue’s face was pale as he lay on the ** unconsciously, without any signs of waking. She could not help but raise her voice, “Just what exactly happened to him?”

Since she entered, Gu Tian Xiang had been dumbfounded. It turned out that Cheng Jin was the Third Miss of the Minister’s residence! That handsome, elegant, and knowledgeable young man was actually the Third Miss of the Minister’s residence who was rumoured to have been forcefully kidnapped! This Third Miss had a natural nobleness unlike that of ordinary women, responding calmly and indifferently to his probing, and successfully dispelling his suspicions. Did she seem like she had been kidnapped? Gu Tian Xiang looked at Ah Luo, then looked at Liu Jue, feeling both angry and amused.

No wonder Liu Jue had sent the black-clothed force to follow her, no wonder Liu Jue had invited him to the residence right after they finished drinking, and no wonder this proud Young Prince had been constantly thinking about her for three years. Interesting, thought Gu Tian Xiang as he watched on with a cold gaze, seeing that she was flustered, anxious, and slightly impatient. With anger in his words, his eyes suddenly filled with grief, “Lost too much blood!”

Ah Luo’s heart felt empty and she fell down, sitting on the **. She slowly turned her head to see Gu Tian Xiang with a pained expression, then looked around and saw the attendants and maids with eyes red from crying. Ah Luo turned her head back to the doctor and saw him shaking his lowered head. Then she looked at Liu Ying again who had already turned around. His body was trembling slightly and it seemed like he could not help crying. Excessive bleeding? She yelled, “Then do a blood transfusion!”

All the surrounding people were stunned and the doctor asked carefully, “How do you do a blood transfusion?”

Ah Luo opened her mouth wide, then suddenly realised that there was no blood transfusion equipment here and that it would be impossible to give Liu Jue a blood transfusion. All at once, her tears poured out. She hated herself for not having studied medicine. Her mind was blank and she could not think of a way to save him. Could he not be saved?  Ah Luo’s heart felt waves of pain one after another.

She no longer looked at the people in the room, staring dazedly only at Liu Jue’s handsome face. His pale face had lost its vitality as he lay there motionless and Ah Luo reached out to touch his face with shaking hands. The cold feeling frightened her and turning around, she said angrily, “Don’t you know how to set up more braziers?!”

Everyone was startled and the attendants hurried out to bring braziers. Liu Ying seemed to understand Gu Tian Xiang’s intent and rubbing his eyes as he choked with sobs, he said, “Third Miss, you, you should accompany my Lord.” After saying his, he looked around meaningfully and with lowered heads, everyone left the room.

Upon leaving the room, Liu Ying made a long bow towards Gu Tian Xiang. Gu Tian Xiang shook his head and watched dawn break. It was still snowing and glancing at Liu Ying, he said, “Give me an umbrella, I want to drink a warm pot of Intoxication.”

It was quiet in the room. Liu Jue’s breathing was somewhat short and Ah Luo stared unblinkingly at him. She could not help but pat his face, “You, how about you wake up? How about you don’t be like this?” There was a lump in her throat and she cried out, “Don’t you know that you’ll die if you bleed too much! I’m afraid of corpses! Don’t you die in front of me, alright?”

Liu Jue remained motionless, having already fallen into a coma from losing too much blood. Would he not be able to hear what she said again? Would he not jump up, not talk and argue with her again? Ah Luo felt the hollow in her heart slowly growing as large tears dripped down. Past events came to her mind one by one. It turned out that she cared about him so much. She had originally thought that she would not become emotionally entangled with anyone in this era and dimension, that she would spend her whole life unrestrainedly, just sightseeing and finding a peaceful place to live in seclusion. Yet, why did she care so much? Why did she feel so grieved when thinking that he would never wake up again?

She gently stroked Liu Jue’s brows and mumbled, “You’re actually handsome!” Her finger slid down to his nose, “You’re actually also cool!” Then she touched his lips, “You have a sharp tongue but a tender heart!” Suddenly, she recalled how she had been terrified for a whole day after being mysteriously thrown into this dimension and could not help but cry again.

Liu Jue’s eyelashes twitched and he felt very dizzy. In a daze, he saw Ah Luo crying in front of his eyes with her face like a pear blossom in the rain and he said indistinctly, “A dream!”

Ah Luo came to her senses and without paying him any heed, she shouted, “Someone come! Doctor! Physician! Liu Ying!”

Hearing a shout from inside the room, Liu Ying and the others rushed in, asking simultaneously, “What’s wrong?”

Tongue-tied, Ah Luo pointed at Liu Jue, “He, he, that”

Liu Ying stepped forward anxiously and stretched out his hand, “Where’s the medicine?”

The attendant quickly handed over the medicine that had already been prepared and Liu Ying hurriedly fed it into Liu Jue’s mouth. Ah Luo looked on anxiously, “Is it working? Will this work? Will he recover from the brink of death?”

Having drunk a mouthful of medicine, Liu Jue’s throat tasted bitter, though moisturised. His vision finally cleared and with a weak yet still calm voice, he said, “You’ll be free if I die, don’t even think about it!”

Dazed, Ah Luo turned to Liu Ying, “He won’t die?!”

Liu Ying lowered his head awkwardly, “Excessive blood loss!”

Liu Jue stretched out his hand to grab Ah Luo and laid down with his eyes closed, “You’re not allowed to leave!”

Seeing that his hands actually still had strength, Ah Luo could not help but laugh and cry. She felt relief and joy as she thought that Gu Tiang Xiang had misled her. She replied softly, “I won’t leave!”

She looked at Liu Ying, “Were you laughing just now?”

Liu Ying’s face reddened, “They, they were tears of joy! I, I’ll go check on the kitchen!”

“Wait, instruct the kitchen to prepare dishes. From now on, feed him pig liver at every meal, porridge and soups are good, and boil water with jujubes and wolfberries.” Ah Luo thought about the few things she knew that could replenish blood and instructed Liu Ying busily.

Liu Jue’s head still felt very dizzy and he listened but did not have the strength to speak. A trace of a smile appeared on the corner of his mouth and not letting go of Ah Luo’s hand, he fell into a deep sleep again.

When he woke up, he had recovered about 70 to 90 percent. He moved his body and felt pain in the right side of his chest, then he adjusted his inner energy and found no serious problems. Opening his eyes, he discovered that he was still holding Ah Luo’s hand. She was lying on the side of the bed and was not awake yet with a blanket covering her. Fortunately, the braziers were burning intensely and the room was as warm as though it was spring. Liu Jue looked at her slightly swollen red eyes and his gaze softened. Then his expression changed and he shouted, “Ah, the pain is killing me!”

Ah Luo woke up with a start and seeing Liu Jue with his brows furrowed and shouting that it hurts, she suddenly remembered the events of last night and said hurriedly, “You won’t die!”

“It hurts!”

“Of course it would hurt to be stabbed by a sword and having no anaesthetics.” Unable to do anything about it, Ah Luo shouted, “Someone come! Your general is awake!”

A maid came in, bringing jujube and wolfberry water. She said joyfully, “The general has woken up! The doctor has said that it will be alright, the wound will heal after ten days or so of rest.”

The maid gave the water to Liu Jue who happened to be thirsty and gulped it down, then he shouted again, “It hurts so much!”

Ah Luo’s eyes reddened and another layer of tears formed, “What to do?” She said to the maid, “Go and ask the doctor if there is any medicine that can relieve pain!”

Liu Jue felt touched, “So it turns out you would worry about me.”

A blush crept over Ah Luo’s face quickly, delicate and charming. Her eyes were still misty and as gentle as water. Liu Jue stared at her intently, then frowned suddenly, “Has Tian Xiang been here?”

Ah Luo turned her face and nodded.

“He saw you like this?”

“Ah? What’s wrong?”

“Did I not say that you are not allowed to step out of the room?” Liu Jue’s voice turned cold.

Ah Luo became annoyed, “Should I not see you when you were about to die!” Angrily, she yanked her hand back.

Liu Jue held on tightly and closed his eyes, “Did I say you were allowed to leave?”

Ah Luo glared at him helplessly and after a moment, she said irritatedly, “If it was not for your injury, I would beat you up until your teeth were all over the floor!”

“I want to eat your cooking! I don’t want vegetarian food!” Liu Jue spoke again.

“Then let go of my hand!” Ah Luo was so angry that she wanted to laugh as she thought, why was he still acting like a spoilt child?

“You are mine, not letting go!” Liu Jue was unreasonable to the end.

“Want me to marry you?” Ah Luo asked lightly.

“It’s not wanting to, you originally were supposed to!”

“Then let go right now! I’ll go and make you something to eat!”

Liu Jue slowly opened his eyes and released Ah Luo’s hand. She stood up and with her hands on her waist, she sneered, “If it’s food, I’ll make it for you. If you want me to marry you, you better have a better attitude, hmph!” After saying this, she walked off without looking back.

Liu Jue gritted his teeth, pain tugging at his chest again. He thought to himself that she was so arrogant!
