Chapter 17

“You are going to testify against us?” Shinji looked at Tetsu.

“I am taking you two c**** home.” Tetsu said, “Follow me.”

“What about my sword?” Shinji interrupted.

“It is in the carriage.” Tetsu said and began walking.

Both of them stepped out from their cell and began following Tetsu.

“Sorcerer, free us!” captivated men cried.

Tetsu overlooked them all.

Tetsu walked along with those two while the guards watched them with eyes filled with distaste.

Shinji got to escape those eyes once he sat inside the carriage.

Fujimoto was amused to see that the horses were walking by themselves. Nobody had to guide them.

“What about the law and trial?” Shinji said, listening to the horse galloping on its way.

“Do you know why the prince left the castle, refusing the crown?” Tetsu asked.

Nobody had answer for it.

“Sorcerers can pay blood money for any crime.” Tetsu had to continue, “Normal people have to go through legal procedure but anyone associated with someone like me doesn’t have to. Prince wanted to abolish this rule. Little did he know favor that sorcerers had done to Pryeg since centuries. Sorcerers had helped pervious kings defend this tiny kingdom against mighty perils. But Prince had hard time understanding the balance between magic and crown. Every day he felt the balance was leaning in magic’s favor. Frustrated, one day the prince left the kingdom for somewhere law was equal for all. I wonder if he found it or not. It has been years since it happened. King didn’t let anyone get the crown in absence of his son. And when he died, he brought democracy. But magic still out-powers the law. I out-power the law. Now there is a balance between democracy and sorcery.”

“Why did you help us?” Fujimoto asked.

“Your words grew on me. I can’t let everyone die in Great Invasion just because the world was unfair to me.”

“This isn’t direction to your house.” Fujimoto said by looking out of the window.

“But Chosokabe’s house is.” Tetsu smiled.

They rode for the whole night.

Sun had risen by the time the carriage stopped.

Shinji stepped out in the sun to see sight of the house which he had seen in the forest.

This time too it was in the middle of forest.

“This is what the Chosokabe House looks like?” Fujimoto watched the small house.

“Thank you, Mr. Tetsu.” Shinji shook hand with him.

So did Fujimoto.

“I have told Nobukazu about you two. Push the door and get in.” Fujimoto said after getting inside the carriage.

They thanked him again and pushed the door to get in.

Tetsu watched the door lock.

A slender man came out of the tree when the two got inside the house.

“I am glad I met you.” Tetsu said to the man when he sat near him, “Or I would have never noticed those two killed Hames.”

“Your son’s killers should die from your own creation.” Slender man said.

Tetsu nod with heavy heart.

“What is inside there?” Thin man asked silent Tetsu.

“Monster family.” Sobbed Tetsu, mourning for the death of his son.
