Ianna sped past maids and butlers on her way to the throne room. Running fast curtains blew in her wake and maids were pushed to the side. Taking a few turns here and there and cutting through the garden she took the fastest route. Reaching the throne room she kicked open the door. (To note, there are two doors and one was already open.) Papers flew and the grey door slammed into the wall shattering anything in between the two.
“EL IS GOING THROUGH A TRIAL!”
“WHAT”
Jumping up Requille quickly ran past Ianna leaving Elena shocked and even more papers flying due to the sheer speed at which Requiclle ran. Elena quickly stood and hurried over to Ianna who was now on the ground. Reaching out a hand she began talking.
“Did it just start?”
“I don’t know when it started, I only saw him on the floor unconscious and his veins glowing. All telltale signs of a trial.”
“I’m not as worried as Requille, no it’s better to say that I’m excited. He is sure to be a genius if he is being chosen at such a young age for a trial. I understand why Requille was shocked though. He was planning on doing a ritual to increase El’s mana when he underwent his first trial. Since the body becomes more attuned to mana when receiving a gift he was going to put El in the magic forest and let his body soak in the mana. Let’s hope he is quick enough…”
However, Ianna was worried. She had almost failed her first trial. When you’re a genius the gods like to give you harder tasks. Ones that could be considered impossible. What if he failed? He wouldn’t be able to have a trial until he was ten or more due to how bad his mana pool was. As well he was only five. No matter how much of a genius he is, at the end of the day he was still a child. He wasn’t even a 5th circle mage yet. What she was worried about most of all however was that when she had found El on the ground, it seemed like he was in pain…
With thuds that seemed to echo infinitely, El paced around a pillar. His forehead wrinkled as he thought hard. The book given to him held all the knowledge he had studied up until this point. However, he had only ever built a single spell, a small one at that. One that could barely be considered a 3rd circle spell. Comparatively the spell he was being told to create was a 15th circle spell which he had but seen only once. It was a difference of sky and earth.
Think, think, think….. How do I go about doing this…
At first, I thought I could simply control ice like I do with raw mana. Every spellcaster had to be able to control mana as you had to weave it into spell circles. However, this didn’t work very well at all. I was able to move the ice I generated allowing it to fly and hit things at a decent speed, but I wasn’t able to change its shape nor make more ice. I tried focusing on molding the ice I generated and generating more. It however just created a separate piece of ice that just fell on the ground after it was made.
I then thought of using the spell ‘ice pillar’ as a base to generate ice… but then I wasn’t able to move it. Plus I had never tried to mold the ice after it was created. Normally you had a shape in mind and it would take that shape as you used the spell or come out in that form preset. I know it’s possible but I need some kind of reference. He might have demonstrated it but he never showed the circle nor the hand signs.
With a sigh, he sat under a torch notebook in hand. Flipping through the book he realized how marvelous the book truly was. Just by thinking the book would flip to whatever information he was looking for. As it only held information he had read or wrote down himself it wasn’t all too helpful, however. All the frost/ice spells he had researched were of the 5th circle and he had only ever heard of a spell that allows for full control of an element. Such things were way above him or special in case.
“I wish I could write in this book, I have no pencil, if I could keep track of my ideas I bet I could get something.”
As though it was listening, the thick book silently started to flip through its pages. The black leather binding shook as the pages flipped rapidly. The number of pages it held didn’t fit its dimensions as a book of its size would never be able to hold so many pages. Looking at the now blank page El had but one question.
“How do I sketch or write though? I still don’t have a pencil… Well looking at how it seems to react to my thoughts…”
As though he was conducting a band he started to wave his fingers, drawing in the air. Matching such motions marking were being drawn on the page. Trying multiple things out he figured out that he didn’t even need to use movement to draw. Just by thinking he was able to quickly turn the pages and erase. Though, soon he returned to waving his fingers or even pressing them onto the book itself. It just didn’t feel natural to do such a thing and he was actually able to sketch faster and more accurately with movements.
“Wait, that’s right! Movement! I know that some earth style warriors and even shadow mages can control their elements with movement!”
