Chapter 44 Recognizing the wrong person

Wei Zhen Hui’s back was straight and his arms hung stiffly down his sides.

The girl in front of him had weaved both arms under his arms and her small hands were clasped firmly behind his back, her head pressed tightly against the left side of his chest.

He looked down only to see the middle parting on the woman’s head and a short section of her plain white neck.

Wei Zhen Hui took a deep breath and should have pushed her away.

However, for some unknown reason, he did not dislike her hugging him at all and even felt a trace of contentment from the bottom of his heart.

In this hug, Su Mian had exhausted almost all of her energy so from a distance, it appeared as though Su Mian was hanging onto Wei Zhen Hui.

Su Jin Long watched Su Mian with a dazed expression. When had his sister become so domineering, actually holding onto an unfamiliar man in broad daylight and not letting go.

A group of young soldiers had just returned from their morning exercises and were carrying wash basins as they headed to fetch water to wash their faces. When they saw that their normally indifferent and serious captain was actually being hugged by a girl, and from the front, their enamel basins fell to the floor and clattered thrice.

Several of the team leaders looked at Su Mian hugging Wei Zhen Hui like an octopus, their eyes so wide that they were practically falling out.

Some of them covered their mouths and bit their own fingers, while others grabbed the arms of people nearby at random and bit them hard.

“Captain, this is what you meant by you do not know them?”

“Captain, you do not know her, but she hugs you and will not let go, then why is nobody hugging me?”

“Captain, I heard that you both are from the same village. Did you have a relationship with her back home?”

“Captain, did you secretly find us a sister-in-law behind our backs?”

Wu Feng looked at them strangely, his gaze circling over them several times. He pursed his lips, “Cough cough, Zhen Hui, you and Su Mian…”

“It is not what you all are thinking!” After Wei Zhen Hui said this, he grabbed Su Mian with his right hand and pulled her off him like a small chick. Then he said to Su Mian, “You, come with me.”

Wei Zhen Hui strode ahead and Su Mian followed behind with her head lowered guiltily.

When she was in his arms just now, her mind had already cleared. Her small face was flushed red with embarrassment.

Just what had she done, actually hugging Wei Zhen Hui in full public view.

She must have been too excited when she saw Wei Zhen Hui!

The inside of Wei Zhen Hui’s military tent was simple, with only a camp bed, a small desk, and a chair beside it.

“Speak, why did you do that?” Wei Zhen Hui was a full head taller than her and at this moment, he looked down at her commandingly from a height.

Su Mian had already thought of an excuse and with her head lowered, she said quietly, “I was busy all night and my mind is a little fuzzy, so I just recognised the wrong person.”

“Is that the truth? Then why do you not dare to look at me while speaking?” Wei Zhen Hui’s imposing manner was intense, plus he had stepped forward. Now the two of them were only a step away from each other.

Su Mian lowered her head even more and looked at her feet. She was still worrying about how to answer when her chin was suddenly raised up.

Her eyes were still red from crying just now, yet her round eyes were clear and pure.

Did she really recognise the wrong person?

What kind of person could make her cry so sorrowfully?

Wei Zhen Hui’s breath caught. He clearly knew that she was lying, yet he did not want to expose her.

When he heard her evasive excuse, he was actually a little disappointed. Did he himself even know what he was hoping for?

She was the classmate of his younger sister. When he graduated from high school at 18-years-old, he had gone to become a soldier. They definitely had never met before, yet he simply felt that the person in front of him seemed familiar.

“So bold, but now you are afraid? Do not hug men so casually from now on, it is not good for your reputation.” Waving away the unexplainable irritation in his heart, Wei Zhen Hui loosened his hand that had gripped her. His lips curled, “You are Xiao Min’s classmate, Su Mian, right? She mentioned you in her letter.”
