Chapter 94 Feeling alarmed

“Remember, you can only look.” Only then did Mother Li lower her arm and swept her gaze over Su Mian sharply, before she allowed Su Mian to enter the room.

Li Ya Jun was lying on the heatable brick bed with a pale complexion, his eyes shut tightly without any sign of waking up.

Su Mian felt his pulse and found that it was slow and weak, completely different from the symptoms he had a few days ago.

Su Mian felt that this was strange. He had clearly recovered from his previous illness, but now there was a new illness.

“Has he taken any other medicine in the past two days?” Su Mian felt Li Ya Jun’s pulse on his other wrist.

“He has only taken the medicine you prescribed. We trusted you so much, and yet…” Mother Li began to tear up. “I only have this one son. If anything happens to Li Ya Jun, I will fight you to death!”

Mother Li was really regretful now. She should not have listened to the villagers’ groundless rumours and asked Su Mian to see Li Ya Jun. As luck would have it now, her son had fainted and been unconscious for most of the day without waking up.

Su Mian was so young, what illnesses could she even treat?!

Mother Li kept crying, although her eyes did not leave Su Mian for fear she would do something to harm Li Ya Jun again.

Su Mian finished feeling his pulse and felt that this was even more strange.

Theoretically, Li Ya Jun should have been much better after taking the medicine for a few days. Why did he faint?

Seeing that Su Mian was silent for a long while, Mother Li felt anxious, “You have seen him. Now tell me, what is going on with my son?”

Before Su Mian could speak, the back door banged open.

“Mrs Li, I have finished preparing Ya Jun’s medicine for you!” Zhang Jie brought the medicine in, “It is still hot, hurry and drink it while it is still hot…”

She stopped speaking halfway. Obviously, she had not expected that Su Mian would also be here. Her tone changed instantly, becoming less friendly and more critical, “Oh, Su Mian is also here!”

Wei Min felt a headache. Zhang Jie had always looked down on Su Mian. Everyone present knew what the vague implications in her tone meant.

A mother-in-law and her daughter-in-law were truly natural enemies.

Zhang Jie had kept herself in good shape and although she was older than He Qin by a fair few years, she looked like she was in her early forties. She had phoenix eyes and appeared extraordinarily energetic.

It could be seen that Zhang Jie must have been beautiful when she was young. Wei Min resembled her quite a bit.

Su Mian had also seen Wei You Shan who looked refined and handsome.

Thinking about it now, Wei Zhen Hui did not look like either of them. Could he be a combination of both of their good points?

Thinking of Wei Zhen Hui, Su Mian’s mouth curled up unconsciously and she called out sweetly, “Aunt Zhang!” Her gaze fell onto the bowl of pitch-black medicine in Zhang Jie’s hand.

Zhang Jie was evidently taken aback. She had wanted to say a few more words to taunt Su Mian, yet she could not find the strength to do so when she saw Su Mian’s sweet smile.

As an old saying goes, one could not hit a smiling person’s face. If she continued to make things difficult, it would be rumoured that as a future mother-in-law, she was bullying her daughter-in-law.

Su Mian knew that Zhang Jie did not like her but she ignored the unnaturalness on her face, “Is this the medicine for Li Ya Jun?” Su Mian felt alarmed.

“What about it? It’s the medicine you prescribed. We don’t have a pot at home, so I asked Wei Min’s mother to cook it.” Mother Li was shocked. Could there be a problem with the medicine?

Without a word, Su Mian sat down and took Li Ya Jun’s pulse again. Then she looked at his tongue and suddenly understood.

“Aunt Li, I have a few words to tell you.” Su Mian had a serious expression, “Did you increase the intensity of this medicine?” Otherwise, the colour should not be so dark. It should be dark brown when cooked, not this pitch-black darkness.

Mother Li felt guilty.

That day, when she had gone to Zhang Jie’s house to assist in wedding preparations, she had mentioned the matter of Su Mian treating Li Ya Jun to Zhang Jie.

She had said that the medicine was effective, yet it was just that Li Ya Jun was recovering very slowly and was fatigued all day long. School would be starting in a few days and she was worried that Li Ya Jun would not recover in time and miss some classes.

Zhang Jie had persuaded her to double the amount of medicine so that he would get better faster!
