It’s been a while since she heard someone use this kind of adjective to describe her.
The Third Year office was situated in the corner of the floor below. The language arts teacher’s desk was far from the entrance. Once Qiao Xiyin walked in, she could see in front of him two stacks of workbooks as tall as half of a person. He was currently buried in the workbooks writing furiously.
She quietly waited at the side for a moment. The language arts seemed to finally notice her arrival. Putting down the pen, he half-jokingly said, “Just now in my class, what were you writing?”
“Geography.” Qiao Xiyin confessed.
Never seeing this kind of straightforward student, the language arts teacher was momentarily shocked. Then, he laughed, “Little student Qiao, even if your language arts is good, you don’t want to be forced into the Cold Palace*.”
*Historically, the Cold Palace was the place concubines who committed wrongs or unfavored concubines were banished to.
The girl in front of him turned red, and embarrassedly said, “Sorry teacher. Yesterday, I accidentally fell asleep and couldn’t finish the homework. I felt that I understood the material so I only listened and wrote half-heartedly.”
The language arts teacher waved his hand.
Everybody now uses the language arts class as a self-study class. Listening to less than half of the lecture, Qiao Xiyin doing geography was better than sleeping. Plus, she was quick to admit her wrongdoings and was honest so he had a pretty good impression of her.
After all, during class he had passed by Qiao Xiyin and saw her language arts workbook. Her notes were complete and beautiful.
Of course, the purpose of him finding Qiao Xiyin was not to talk about this, and even more so not about Qiao Xiyin not turning in homework. It was just a moment of excitement, so he turned the conversation back to the main topic, “What do you think of this class?”
“Everyone is very hardworking,” Qiao Xiyin thought and said, “Everyone has their own learning style.”
The language arts teacher nodded.
“I know your family’s situation. But Little Qiao, it is now Third Year, don’t be affected by those things.” He sincerely told her, “It doesn’t matter if you were born in a poor or rich family. Your entire life is in your hands. You are a very talented young lady. Teacher doesn’t want you to become dejected because of this.”
The class has security cams. He and Qiao Xiyin’s original teacher in charge had discussed and compared Qiao Xiyin’s attitude these two days and the event of the changes in living situation and family happening to her.
Qiao Xiyin had indeed not hidden the personality change. She wasn’t at the original class. People didn’t know her so there was no need to act.
Of course, the language arts teacher thought that the direction of Qiao Xiyin’s change was good since begun to smile and interact with classmates more. Maybe it’s because of experiencing this difficulty, she finally understood what she had to do for herself.
The young lady in front of him was full of shyness, “I understand. Thank you teacher.”
The language arts teacher replied with a couple things before letting her leave. The geography teacher sat next to him, “This is our class’s new Little Qiao?”
The geography teacher was a bit younger, and liked to joke around and naughtily use internet slang. After listening to the nickname the language arts teacher gave Qiao Xiyin, he couldn’t help but join the excitement.
The language arts teacher gave him a sideways glance, “She is pretty sensible.” When Qiao Xiyin left, she also shut the door of the office.
Now, the weather was getting colder and the office was close to the balcony. With the door open, wind would blow in. But very few students noticed this and every time, they would enter crudely with a big smile leaving the door wide open.
“Young lady Little Qiao isn’t bad,” the geography teacher gave his verdict, “I just finished correcting her homework. She is a good student.”
Making a good impression on the teachers in the office, Qiao Xiyin walked down the hallway full of satisfaction.
Having a good relationship teacher would make missing homework and not paying attention to class a lot easier. No one will find out that this was what she was plotting.
Next to the stairs was the water room. In the morning, Chang Shilin gave her a small cup of coffee. So, Qiao Xiyin took hot water to make coffee, thinking she could go upstairs and get cups to collect the hot water. Immediately following this idea, her path was blocked by someone.
“Chen Xiyin.” The girl stood on the next floor and looked down on her from above.
Qiao Xinyi was indeed taller than Qiao Xiyin by a couple centimeters. She learned ballet and with her chin high, she was like a proud white swan.
Qiao Xiyin’s face changed in a second and took a step back, “Older sister Xinyi.”
“Don’t call me older sister,” Looking at her appearance, the fury in Qiao Xinyi’s heart could not be stopped. It is this appearance that tricked everyone at home. “We’re not related.”
Qiao Xiyin bit her lip and gathered her courage to say, “Why does it have to be like this?”
“It was you who ruined my life,” Qiao Xinyi’s voice was sharp and intense, “Chen Xiyin, don’t you think you are cruel. The Chen family raised you for seventeen years and sent you here to study. But you threw away the Chen family for a DNA test to live with the Qiao family and steal everything good from the Qiao family from me.”
Qiao Xiyin’s face turned white, “It’s not like that.” Inwardly, she thought it was funny.
The Chen family raised her for seventeen years and sent her here to study. The original owner was raised by her grandmother. Later the country had a project to improve poverty, which let her study there. Everyday she woke up when it was still dark and bore the pressure of everyone at home telling her to drop out. After immersing herself in bitter studying, she finally got a chance to transfer to the city.
The Chen family ruined the original owner’s life and was also unwilling to give her a new life. At this moment, Qiao Xinyi even gave her a lesson on filial piety.
Qiao Xinyi sank deeper in her world and pretended not to hear Qiao Xiyin’s reaction, “It was you, Chen Xiyin. It was you. I was raised in the Qiao family from a young age. I am the Qiao family’s daughter. You think Dad and Mom are treating you well because they like you, right? No, they are just feeling guilt and sympathy. They feel like they owe you and need to compensate for the feelings they only have for me. I am their daughter.”
“Your mom is still the dormitory staff. Your family are still peasants. What kind of pride do you have that you would even abandon your ancestry. Willing to change your last name, you think once you enter the Qiao family, you’ll have a good life. So you pretend to be obedient to get Mom and Dad to like you.” Her face was ferocious, like a pale, teeth-bearing ghoul, “Rural people who move to the city are still rural people. You can’t be the Qiao family’s rich young daughter well. You could only admit this is your life.”
Wow.
Qiao Xiyin was shocked beyond belief. Was this a seventeen-year-old girl’s words? What happened to her upbringing? Her inner heart must be completely vile.
Seeing classmates pass by, Qiao Xiyin read the situation and raised her hand to rub her eyes until the corners were red. The tears swirled in her eye socket as she nervously bit her lip. She quietly said, “It’s not. I didn’t.”
“Stop acting. I won’t believe it.” Qiao Xinyi coldly looked at her, “If you had a little conscience, then hurry and move out of the Qiao family. I’m telling you, if it wasn’t for Dad and Mom at home, I would not have let you live well.”
Qiao Xiyin stared at her, as if she couldn’t believe what she heard.
“Qiao Xinyi,” the brewing feelings within her erupted at this moment, “But, Mrs. Qiao is my birth mother. The Chen family is your family. So I can’t even return to my own family?”
Under the prying gaze of the surrounding crowd, she dashed past Qiao Xinyi into her class, covering her face.
