Chapter 53 – Anubite – anubis

A few minutes after his request, the Werfur maids brought the books that Nick asked for to his office.

After his last battle with the Deep Water Organization mages in the Underbroom Cave, Nick decided to create summoning spells at the earliest. For this, he needed a simple book, from where he could learn about the basics of summoning and also things such as summoning materials.

Without this information that served as guardrails, everything he did, would eventually be a wastage of time.

Nick sat on his chair and started reading a book titled ‘Summoning Elementary’. This book was about basic-level summoning and the various nuances of how a summon worked.

Nick was done reading the book nearly an hour later, and he noted a few important points. Summoning was made up of two components — ‘Sacrifice’ and ‘Soul’. These formed the basics for creating and casting a summoning spell.

The first part, ‘Sacrifice’, was similar to the ‘Knowledge’ section in ordinary spells creation. The ‘Sacrifice’ section of the book listed some foundational steps.

The one who wanted to summon not only needed to give magical energy but also should know what he or she needed, or what/who he or she wanted to summon, in the first place.

Sacrifice = Magical Energy + Knowledge about the summoned creature.

This was the first thing that a mage needed to do, either to summon a creature or to have a spell that allowed him to summon creatures, for protection or to fight against enemies.

Nick smiled to himself as he understood what ‘Sacrifice’ meant. These basics were not hard to decipher; it was almost similar to creating a spell. At least that was what he thought.

The second step was ‘Soul’, which was connected to the power of the soul of the summoning mage.

Even if magical energy and knowledge of the summoned creature were enough, the mage needed to have a stronger soul than the summoned creature. Without a strong soul, the mage could not control or order the creature that he or she summoned.

This rule was deliberate. It restricted the power of summoning mages. Without this rule, a mage could summon any creature as long as they had given enough magical power and had the corresponding knowledge of the creature they wanted to summon. This would let them summon creatures capable of killing beings that were many levels higher than themselves.

This, however, was against the ‘Magic Nature’ itself.

For Nick, this was a bigger problem. But he knew that caring about something like this, was not the best thing he could do right now.

“I understand how to use and create summoning spells now, so there should be no problem in creating a spell right now itself.”

With these thoughts, Nick smiled and started thinking. He got up from his seat and walked around his office to spark some summoning ideas.

Nick was aware that with this knowledge, he had several options to choose from. First of all, he thought it was best to summon a creature that specialized in defence and he did not care whether it was slow or fast.

Now that he understood how to summon a creature and what he needed, there should be no problem for him to change the creatures he wanted to summon.

But there was one significant concern when it came to the matter of the soul.

How would he understand whether his soul was enough or not to control the creature he wanted to summon? It would be a self-created problem if he did not handle this part correctly.

At this time, the System, which was usually silent, started talking. Nick heard a mechanical voice in his head.

“User can imagine the creature and ask about the creature, being, abomination to ‘System’.

This sudden prompt amused Nick and he asked a general question.

“System, how come you are speaking to me?”

System did not answer this time though, indicating that it did not like this kind of idle chatter.

Nick pushed this at the back of his head for now and took a deep breath as he asked a question.

“System, can you check if my soul is strong enough to summon ‘Anubite’, the spawn of Anubis.”

Nick asked about a simple creature.

‘Anubite’, a creature from Earth, was part of Egyptian mythology. Anubites were spawns or children of the God of Death ‘Anubis’ in the mythology.

Within seconds, the System answered.

“User’s soul is enough for summoning five ‘Anubite’ creatures at the same time. If more than five are summoned, User can still summon seven ‘Anubites’ but in that case, User cannot cast any spells at the same time.”

Nick laughed and nodded. For now, he knew what he wanted to summon.

Anubite was a jackal-headed, sickle-wielding creature with considerable defence and super agility. The creature stood at the height of 270 cm or 9 Feet. Its body was sturdy but still agile. Due to its mythical properties, its defense was very strong as well. Nick normally would not choose this creature as his summoning creature for th etime being. But after understanding how summoning spells works, It was easy to understand for himself and he decided to summon “Anubite.”

Its special ability was the ‘Anubite Jump’ that was capable of jumping more than 500 meters forward and 100 meters high, every 10-20 seconds using its legs.

Nick was excited that he had the chance to use these creatures.

Within seconds, he wrote a summoning spell for summoning the ‘Anubite’.

Spell Name: ‘Summon Anubite’

‘Sacrifice’

‘Magical Energy’

‘Knowledge of Anubite’

‘Anubites are spawns of Anubis – the God of Death in ‘Egyptian mythology.’

‘Anubites are similar to Anubis in their looks.’

‘Anubites are sickle-wearing, jackal-headed creatures, standing at 9 feet or 270 cm of height.’

‘Anubites have a special ability called ‘Anubite Jump’ that lets them jump 500 meters forward and 100 meters high.”

‘Scientific name — Pholax Cynopolis’

‘We, known as the Jackals, the Priests of Anubis, are guardians of their glorious tombs or their humble graves. We are the keepers of the dead. We are the servants of Anubis. We are Cynopolis.’ — Chapter of the Dead, Book of Ma’at.

After Nick finished writing the knowledge of Anubite and the spell, he immediately wanted to summon an Anubite.
