I can almost hear, as I type 'dwende', my Spanish-speaking readers rushing to comment that I'm spelling it wrong. And it is true that the name comes from 'Duende', a creature spread throughout the former Spanish Empire, somewhat like the nisse and tomte of Scandinavia or the brownie of England. But the 'Dwende' is a creature of the Philippines, and I modeled my magic species after him specifically, so I am using the Filipino spelling.

We will finally meet the interloper properly in the next chapter.
