Chapter 42- cost being paid

“Ah, you’re wondering how I can speak to you as your shaman can. Dragons have understood the secrets of spirit speech for as long as humans were finding fire and elves were pointing sticks for the first time. While I have an ancient lifespan, I can only have children once. This is a great weakness for dragons. While the Drakan does not have this weakness, women rarely have more than one clutch.” (Kel)

Peter would have scratched his chin if he had one at that moment.

“Fascinating. I can see how there’s the old type of your species and the new type at the same time. It must have been hard for your people to hold a stable population in ancient times.” (Peter’s Spirit Talking)

Kel chuckled amusedly.

“That’s true, but we also rarely died from anything but natural causes or infighting back then because of our superior bodies to any other race. In fact, the great evolution of the other species of the world happened when the Drakan was first being born as well. It’s widely known as the rebalancing of the world or the great change. Some even call it the great awakening.” (Kel)

Peter thought on that with a hmm in his voice.

“This is the first time I’ve spoken to a spirit that wasn’t through a shaman.” (Kel)

Peter chuckled before speaking.

“I suppose it’s one of several firsts that’s happened today.  However, today must come to an end. It’s getting late a lot of people are wary.” (Peter’s Spirit Talking)

Kel raised her head and noticed that Dramix was lightly snoring.

“I see your meaning.” (Kel)

Peter also looked around and saw that not a lot of people were awake except for Kel and Naleeit. He then went into his fog form outside of the amulet, causing Naleeit to become surprised.

“She’s ready.” (Pete)

He then returned to his amulet after saying that.

“Impressive control. We will surely speak to one another again.” (Kel)

Peter chuckled.

“I don’t doubt that.” (Peter’s Spirit Talking)

Peter then paused after thinking about the current events and his situation. Well past the hours it took for Naleeit to return from seeing Kel back home or the hours after that for the blizzard to reside. He suddenly stopped thinking, realizing that he hadn’t really remembered any decisions he’s made, as Draama grabbed a stool and sat beside her father and started to wait. After a minute passed, Peter noticed that she was looking at his eye of souls. He then opened his skills and set broaden insight into the one spot he usually keeps empty.

“Young one, can you hear me?” (Peter’s Spirit Talking)

Draama was startled and seemed to jump after hearing him.

“I take that as a yes. Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten me so soon. We’ll start getting closer after all, so you have to train to speak with me.” (Peter’s Spirit Talking)

Draama settled herself and sat her hands on her inner thighs.

“I didn’t think you could speak to me until you’re around my neck.” (Draama’s Spirit Talking)

Peter would have humorously smiled when she said that if he could.

“I have a lot of powers and abilities, but I’m talking to you now because I have to tell you a few things that you must know. First and most importantly, you must never remove the eye of souls from your neck after Dramix passes it down to you unless you’re ready to pass it down to your child.” (Peter’s Spirit Talking)

Draama raised her body up a little in surprise before speaking.

“Why is that?” (Draama’s Spirit Talking)

Peter sighed.

“The eye of souls is the catalyst that enables me to use my great powers. Without it, I can’t do much. If it’s not bound to someone worthy of it, I can’t do anything. In fact, I’m completely blind once I’m removed from someone, and I won’t return to normal unless I’m around that person’s neck once again.  I’ve only been removed twice in his lifetime; when your parents came together for the first time, and when your father was forced to or your mother would be killed.” (Peter’s Spirit Talking)

Draama leaned forward in interest.

“I heard the story from my father.” (Draama’s Spirit Talking)

Peter chuckled.

“Yes, and I will tell it to you as well. I’ve seen that I have a lot of time left with the one that I’m bound to. Alas, back to the point. Secondly, I’m not here to help you lead. I’m only here to honor your desires and those before you.” (Peter’s Spirit Talking)

Draama then closed her eyes before nodding.

After waiting for a moment, Peter continued.

“Thirdly, I will ignore your wishes and your desires to protect you and your beliefs. You’re a Drakan of the house of the Timeless Lance. You also have the blood of the great heroes flowing through your veins. You must remember that you come from even more humble beginnings before that.” (Peter’s Spirit Talking)

Draama stood up in the excitement and opened her mouth.

“Great heroes.” (Draama)

Dramix opened his eyes.

“And humble beginnings.” (Dramix’s Spirit Talking)

Draama then looked up at her father.

“Nelaeeit forgot that. As you know, she has always been stronger and wiser than you, but she’s never accepted that things weren’t beneath her. Even in private, she shunned the practices that I instated and abused the permissions of my house.” (Dramix)

Draama nodded in understanding.

“Is that why you schooled her yourself as a shaman while I went to school?” (Draama)

Dramix nodded.

“I care for both of you. I knew about the poison in her since you were knee-high.” (Dramix)

Dramix then sighed and looked at the embers in front of him while he thought about the time that passed.

“I doubt anybody told you what she did. To put it bluntly, what she did was unforgivable in my house because it grants free desire. ” (Dramix)

At this moment, other people started pouring into the hall to clean, while the people that were original there were leaving. Dramix stood up, then Draama followed him as he headed for the open door. When they went outside, they were on an outstretch of a mountain and Peter was in awe at all the Drakan around.

“The last thing I know about her is that she joined another house.” (Dramix)

Peter then noticed that the people who left were flanking the building while another group was coming back.

“Everything here will be left to you Draama. To make you a good leader, I think you should start learning right now.” (Dramix)

Suddenly, the world around Peter went dark, but that didn’t last, as he could see again within moments. What seemed strange to him though is that he saw a much older Dramix in his field of vision.

Then it came to him.

“I’m such a fool for not noticing the holy orders curse earlier.” (Peter’s Spirit Talking)

Draama became surprised.

“Father, what’s he talking about? What is this holy orders curse?” (Draama)

Dramix hugged his daughter tightly, just like he did every time he was with Naleeit.

“I’m dying. I gave up half my remaining life span after being freed from the slave pits. I also did so once again during the dark lord’s destruction.” (Dramix)

Draama was speechless, and then she was surprised that he had any life left to begin with at this point. She then moved her hands hold his large shoulders and shed a tear on his cheek.

“Who else knows?” (Draama)

Dramix then removed himself from their embrace and sighed.

“I’m sure more than I can guess. Come fly with me.” (Dramix)
