Ria – Das Ria – A Jhisari warrioress and a former Alwarzi slave. She serves a mysterious master who insists she call him ‘Father’ rather than ‘Master’. She is afflicted with one of Benjamin’s ‘slave stones’. Flux Artist class: Keth-Ethen, also a spiritual practicioner in training.
Lieutenant Moore – Jack and Roy’s boss in the police department.
Fionna – Lady Fionna nic Brath. Rogan’s grand-niece. Head of Brath House Security. Flux artist class: unknown. A spiritual practicioner of a martial artist type called Junsai, in the Second Realm.
Meadhbh (Pronounced “Mave”) – A fourteen-year-old half-Gireidil Brath retainer. Rogan hid her in his offworld organization after she became wanted for murdering her parents’ murderers, in an act of Gireidil filial piety. Flux Artist class unknown. A spiritual practicioner of a martial artist type, in the Second Realm.
Koursh – Captain Koursh – Leader of an Orosjoese mercenary company and also a Brath House retainer.
Meg– Maya Elena Garner – (Mentioned) Jack’s sixteen-year-old daughter.
Alwen – (mentioned) Nam’s sixteen-year-old daughter.
Mother – the mysterious character in Jack Garner’s dreams. Dark red hair with streaks of gold, deep green eyes. When he was young, she would take the orphan Jack on detailed adventures in his dreams, and sometimes gave him advice. Disappeared from his life after he married, until she suddenly reappeared in his dreams once he came to Chald.
Joanna – A woman who is inexplicably both the Dhan (clan leader) of the Mato’khra, a Gireidil clan (as the widow of the previous Dhan) and an Alwarzi slave under the control of Benjamin through a ‘slave stone’ implanted in her head, which the clan members do not know about. Flux Artist class: Ondakjai (slave warrioress).
Tirith – full name Tehilintirith – the general of Mato’khra, who is acting as Joanna’s Trohthoan (attendant), a position to give protection to an unmarried Dhan. Flux artist class: unknown
Sandra – Sandra Garner – Jack’s ex-wife. They may still be in love with each other; she divorced him when her anxiety of his job became overwhelming. She may in fact be, as Payton and Cipolli suspect, an Alwarzi, the ‘spook’ race behind the kidnappings.
Amis – Ele Amis – Das Ria’s ‘senior warrior sister’ in her Jhisari tribe. Flux Artist class: unknown, but apparently quite skilled.
Master – aka “Lord” or “Father” – an Ilidi Judge. He works on Earth, apparently in an effort to rescue the slaves and stop the Alwarzi operation. Das Ria and her Jhisari tribe are working for him. Flux Artist class: unknown, but extremely advanced.
Jack’s Cat – an apparent Specter, resembling an unusually large domestic cat. Seems to have a connection to the ethen that has implanted itself in his hitochin (heart chakra)
Bart – Beritehies – Tirith’s hunting partner. An English-speaking Gireid who grew up on Parha before rejoining the Mato’khra clan. Flux artist class: unknown
Simkit – Simkit Brath – a Thamadin (Centaur) from Orosjo. Her mother was born on Chald and her grandmother fought for Rogan’s clan during the war. A Brath House retainer. Her herd considers Rogan their husband, a token arrangement that gives them legal access to their species’ sperm banks, but he treats them as his clan members. Flux Artist class unknown. A spiritual practicioner of a martial artist type, in the Third Realm.
