Chapter 57: Peace was never an option

The heroic party had currently rented a room in a simple stop-over inn – the only one in the village.

Usually villages didn’t even have such facilities but since this village worked as a somewhat popular stop-over point when traveling towards the {Moolesh Mountain Range} they decided to invest in this little bit of infrastructure. Of course, they had never seen as much business as they did with the war on the horizon. There were some concerns in villages around the ‘empire’ due to the increased taxes on such villages; demanding greater and greater amounts of their harvests in order to support the war effort.

It made many dread what it would be like after the war started with not only a lack of food but a lack of manpower…

That wasn’t as much a problem for this particular village.

Since a lot of adventures couldn’t survive the {Moolesh Mountain Ranges} they instead settled down around the village. One may think this would increase the mouths to feed thus increasing the problems… But these adventurers were just freelance hunters truthfully. Even if they were just the average adventurers they at least could hunt a few rabbits a day – the D-rankers could even hunt a couple wolves. One rabbit could easily be enough to feed a family if used efficiently so they more than made up for themselves plus they even paid the villagers to stay!

If things continued this way it was likely the beginnings of a town would start form as the villagers or adventurers used their new found freedom to explore other avenues. There was already a blacksmith who decided to settle which clearly showed things were moving in this direction. After a while a tailor or a woodworker may settle.

If the war’s effects prolong enough the adventurers will also likely begin to settle down while more will join the village. From there the villagers would likely begin to seek different professions to create a wider community; at that point it may as well be called a town. Hence the villagers weren’t as opposed to the large number of adventurers as they once may have been. If the situation had been different they would likely have been a lot less welcoming of ‘outsiders’ corrupting their village.

The B Ranked party had gotten a simple 4 person bedroom meant for simple parties; it wasn’t exactly up to standard for people their status though.

It wasn’t exactly a quality room, nevertheless lavish as they were used to. They were used to some of the best rooms you could expect from anyone who wasn’t royal… Though, they didn’t spend much time traveling since they pretty much just hung around the city. At most they would camp out but within their own rooms that s*** was quality!

The bedding in their room was stiff while the pillows were just stuffed with dried hay and the quilt seemed devoid of any volume.

As for the room itself there was basically nothing to say about it. Simply put it was unfurnished other than the bare essentials of four beds and a somewhat small closet – they didn’t even have a closet each. The only thing to look at was wooden panels making up the walls, roof and floor of the room. The window didn’t even have glass but was just a wooden shutter (singular as there was only one)!

For those wondering, Tom had his own room.

At the moment Lyada was just chilling on one of the beds doing nothing while Emily pouted softly while polishing Emily’s spear. She was also doing some basic equipment checks ensuring everything was properly maintained. Lyada was supposed to be maintaining her own sword at the moment but she had recently done a lot of exercise so the rabbit was too lazy at the moment. The local source of logic, Fuka, was currently standing in front of the other two people in the room. Both of them were forced to kneel in front of her.

The obvious face was Eel who was covered in golden chains that were holy in nature due to being created from one of Fuka’s paladin skills; [Holy Restraint] which could also be used by priests and such. One would assume that a Hero, who were often the champions of some great god, wouldn’t be affected by such skills. Usually this was the case but Eel wasn’t your normal hero!

To put it simply her resistance to holy as a hero was countered by her weakness to holy as a demon.

Speaking of demons, the other person was far more annoyed than the little demon dragon who… Well she seemed very used to this situation. She was even whistling (or rather blowing hot air) while her head bobbed about. Promicarus who was also chained up and forced to kneel in front of Fuka had a grimace on her face while glaring at the paladin. Although she was chained she was done so in such a matter where she was holding a cooling pack against her forehead where a rather large bump had formed.

“I hope thou hast made peace with thy family because I, myself, shall see to it that you shan’t meet them again godless paladin mwah-!” <Promicarus>

“If ya wan’ to try somethin’ they live in Gobberz – so what do you plan to do to them?” <Fuka>

“… I will send them on a vacation to the northern {Indigo Stratos Empire} I guess; I’m not messing with that crazed trap of a creature who set up shop there.” <Promicarus>

“Your character is slipping fufufu~!” <Eel>

“Silence impertinent lizard! Dost thou know what’s worse than a paladin who follows no god? A joke of a hero who doesn’t even have any conviction to follow a belief~!” <Promicarus>

“Urgh… Why does that matter?” <Eel>

“Heh, someone who spent more time developing thine breasts than they have thine combat arts wouldn’t begin to comprehend what it really means to become a hero mwahahaha~! Thou can’t even develop thine dragon core. This all in spite of having the strongest remaining dragon bloodline running through you!” <Promicarus>

Elizabeth couldn’t help but cringe at the damage she was taking from this mighty foe. She was honestly surprised that the wicked girl knew where to strike in order to hurt the dragon’s pride she had developed naturally. Most would just attack her in places humans would care about like her family trouble or something about interpersonal relationships… Yet this girl attacked her right in her non-existent dragon core.

She wasn’t one to retreat though; in this respect she gave a pitiful glance to Promicarus’ chest.

“I may not be able to grow a dragon core but you can’t grow a real pair of breasts…” <Eel>

“As if I would want to grow something when I can make something superior mwahaha~! I’m more embarrassed you have put so much wasted energy developing thine fat sacks – clearly thou girlfriends knows it’s better to have none rather than develop trash~! On the other hand I guess you were only taken in to fill the role of a woman you’ve never met…” <Promicarus>

Eel narrowed her eyes while glaring at that girl…

<She is looking so punchable right- no! she wants your to resort to violence… Wait why do you care about what she wants? Just punch he- oh right chains…>

With that in mind she decided to just grind her teeth while growling at the demon. Fuka, who was overlooking them while trying to get them to makeup with each other, just sighed before slamming her metal fists upon their heads. Surprisingly she got  a combined “WHY ME!” out of them. At least they agreed on something?

She had the feeling that this trip would become a far bigger headache…
