45–Mirror, Mirror

[What if your mirror started talking to you? What might the mirror say?]

            “H-h…”

“Beh hell?” I asked through a mouth full of toothpaste, turning around to look for the source of the sound.

Dear Readers. Scrapers have recently been devasting our views. At this rate, the site (creativenovels .com) might...let's just hope it doesn't come to that. If you are reading on a scraper site. Please don't.

            “H…”

I spat out the toothpaste and put my toothbrush down, searching the bathroom for the sound’s source with more vigor. Whatever the sound was, I didn’t like the feeling I got when I heard it. It was…creepy, as though suspenseful music straight out of a horror movie began playing.

            “Heeeeh…”

“Okay, f*** this, that sounded like an old man’s voice.” I grabbed my phone from the bathroom sink countertop and moved to leave the room. Until…

            “He-help me…”

I immediately spun in place on the heel of my foot, reentering the bathroom.

“I can’t just leave after hearing something like that!” I excitedly whispered to myself. “If that’s a ghost, this’ll be awesome. If it’s a prank, I’ll just be pissed that it wasn’t a ghost.”

To be extra sure, I ruffled through the contents of the cabinets below the sink but found nothing suspicious.

            “P-please help me…”

“Damn it! That better be a ghost! I wanna see a damn ghost!” I shouted, angrily contemplating whether I should try to get into the bathroom walls to search for the sound’s source.

            “T-…the mirror…”

I froze in place, emotions cooling, and turned to face my reflection in the large, two-meter-long mirror above the sink. “Yo? You a ghost?”

            “Contin…nue looking at meeee…”

I frowned at not receiving a proper answer but decided to play along, thinking that if I became cursed by my actions, the worst I would need to do was fight some supernatural beings…which would allow me to take that off my bucket list.

“Please be a supernatural being that pops out of the mirror to fight me…” I chanted for five minutes until I received a response.

“Thank you, Master. I am a Mirror Spirit—harmless. I am powered by the gazes of the sapient, and yours has brought me to life.” The same creepy voice as before replied.

“Damn it! No fighting, then?” I complained.

“No, I won’t be able to perform combat for a long time before I reach a certain level. However, I can act as a conduit of magic and, depending on your resources, summon something for Master to fight, if that so pleases you.”

“Sign me the f*** up for getting you to level! How do I help you level up?!”
