I must find a way to increase my body temperature. Roderick threw the goggle inside a trash can when nobody was around.
He thought there was no better way to do so other than taking help of science. Then he wandered around in search of a laboratory since it was the logical place where he could find something of help.
He had not lost the sense of smell, so it was easy for him to follow the fumes. Roderick kept on sniffing everywhere, making a fool out of himself, but he did not care. A while later, he saw the sign above a door: LAB.
He got in there.
As soon as he went in, he found himself raising his arms in surrender. There was a doctor’s assistant who had seen him before. Most of all, he had a shotgun in his grip and Roderick was the one he was targeting.
“I did not come here to kill you.” Roderick whimpered, “I just want to stabilize my body temperature.”
“Of course you would want to. Not everyone will let a zombie go.” Assistant said.
“How do you know I am a zombie?”
“It is one of the easiest things for me.” Assistant put the gun down, “Come, I will cure you.”
“Cure?” Roderick was taken aback. He did not lower his hands.
Assistant said nothing and moved towards a table.
With the gun not staring at him, Roderick decided to look what the assistant was doing. Assistant walked over the fastened lieutenant. Lieutenant’s legs were hitting tables near him, which shook the table full of chemicals on them.
Here you are, you damn fatso.
“Wait, Lieutenant.” Assistant said then clutched some tubes, “Roderick, do you know why I am curing you before this Lieutenant?”
“Why?” interrogated Roderick.
“Because I want you to go. We don’t want violence here.”
“I can’t go like this. I must find captive zombies before midnight!”
“Forget about us. We are more than happy here.”
“You are also a zombie?”
“I was. Now I am cured. I am a human again.” Assistant smiled, “Will you please pass me the bile with green liquid?”
“Sure.” Roderick said and brought it to him.
“Not dark green. You want me to cause a big fire or what? Bring me light green liquid.”
“They all look the same.” Roderick spoke.
This time he gave him the correct chemical. Assistant mixed it with a pink liquid then put all of it in a syringe.
“You are lucky. We can make very little amount of this in a week.” Assistant said by putting the needle through his skin.”
“What if this Lieutenant says you cured me? Won’t you get in trouble?”
“Security guy will get in trouble, not me. It is my job to cure the infected ones wherever I find them. I don’t have the same belief as the head doctor.”
“What belief does he have?”
“He thinks this medicine is still a work in progress. I don’t think so. He just wants to create demand for this medicine so that he can sell it to government in high price after years.” Assistant explained, “Cure shouldn’t be kept as investment.”
“You can make it. Why don’t you make it available for everyone?”
“I don’t know how to make these from scratch. Doctor has kept the instructions to himself. I will have to lick Doc’s ass to cure this dumb Lieutenant.” He took the syringe out, “Now you are good to go. Go right now if you want to remain off the records. If I see you here again, then I will inform Raphael about you.”
Roderick got out from there.
Not even five minutes had passed when a bunch of officers surrounded him.
Damn! Why did he tell Raphael this soon?
“I know he is a zombie.” A sound came from somewhere.
Some officers moved aside and Doctor appeared.
“Check him.” Doctor commanded while Roderick was lying on his chest with a military man on his back. He could see Raphael there in disbelief.
Those men did measure his temperature, heartbeat, blood and everything.
“Nothing’s wrong with him.” A medical staff looked at doctor in the end.
“Never waste my time again.” Raphael frowned at the doctor and commanded him to apologize with Roderick.
