Chapter 1, Master En’s Lessons

You know even though I might be five years old I can see how weird Master En is. Even among other wizards and warlocks, he is considered eccentric. My dad would never act the way he does. He is always swearing and is very crass when it comes to talking, but that is what makes him a good teacher. At least in my eye’s that is.

“Why does the king even hire a man like you.”, Holding her brow in frustration was Ianna.

“You can fuckk off.”

“HOW DARE YOU SWEAR IN FRONT OF THE PRINCE!”

“Ha- like you can get me fired, I’m good friends with the king, hell we went to war together!”

Enverma Uson, a name taken from an old elven family didn’t seem to fit this man. Other than his slightly pointed ears he had no other characteristic of elves, his mixed blood didn’t even seem to elongate his life. He only had strong magic talent and even that had faded. He had shaggy greying black hair and looked like a 60-year-old man. Not too tall, about 5’8” with a handsome enough face. However, the most striking part about him was a scar that covered about half of his neck and crept on to his face. It definitely wasn’t a normal scar either as it seemed to spark with lightning every so often. His health was starting to fail him and he seemed to be looking older every day as his time was coming closer and closer.

Even with how crass his speech was, he was indisputably the country’s best teacher in both magic and basic knowledge. As he had been a count before becoming a mage he was able to attend both a normal academy and magic training. His work as a warlock also carried him all around the world letting him experience many different cultures. Plus with his love of the prince as his godfather, he was willing to take him as his disciple. While the king was definitely stronger, every spellcaster had their unique ways of using magic and their own secrets. Even learning a single secret of a high-class warlock was better than none. Becoming his disciple and ‘heir’ to his legacy meant that El was to receive all of his research notes and findings when he gets older.

“Now then, what are we going to learn today, you had math yesterday and language the other. You’re doing magic studies with your father today. How about geography?”

“Alright.”

“Well then let’s get started. So, you should know this, what is the continent Iceborn is located in, and what is this world’s name.”

“Highland and Haven”

“Correct, but give me a description of Highland.”

“Well this continent is mainly populated by humans, has 12 kingdoms and many smaller colonies. They are Iceborn, Relz, Falston, Toal, Talong, Recit, Fortress, and uhhhh”

“It’s fine if you don’t remember, you have the names of the major kingdoms and that’s good enough, though you should memorize all of them at one point. You missed Mirand, Mire, Alos, Ferin, Elós, and the Holy kingdom of pricks, Alhostein. Highland has the lowest population of monsters compared to the 5 other continents and Highland is considered one of the smaller continents. This as well as our high population means that we have many wars over resources like mana forests.”

“How many wars have we been in?”

“The kingdom of Iceborn has persisted for over 5000 years, over the years we’ve had over 600 wars, one of which lasted 500 years. With an average war lasting five to seven years, we’ve only had 400 years of peace. While the issue of war has been tackled by many over the years the only viable ways of solving it would be to become a united nation or trade overseas. The first isn’t going to happen anytime soon and trading or claiming land overseas has been working for other kingdoms. However, for landlocked kingdoms like Relz, they have a hard time”

While they say that highland is small, let’s put everything into perspective. Highland had a land area of 3.5 million miles and the world of Haven was approximately 5 times larger than earth. This isn’t even the end of it as the underground cavers of Haven are a beast of their own and it’s been known that some higher power beings could even create their own dimensions to reside in. Though while the world is large, if one had enough power, travel around the world is be easy with the use of high-speed flight and teleportation.

While El was taking notes he suddenly heard a loud crash coming from the other side of the castle. Looking out the window he saw a giant shard of ice rising into the sky from one of the towers on the castle. Specifically, the one the king’s laboratory was located in.

“I wonder what experiment your dad was doing to do something like that.”

“What if something happened to dad!”

“Ah sit down boy, your father’ll be fine, tougher than nails he is.”

“b-but.”

“Ah whatever, come here.” Saying so En moved next to El and grabbed his shirt, “ This was getting a bit boring anyway. Let’s go see what he’s up to, eh?” Suddenly being consumed with lightning they moved quickly to the other side of the castle.

“Eyyo king, you alive?” Arriving in front of the tower, master En seemed to have a grin on his face as El ran over to the coughing man sitting on a piece of the now tipping tower.

With a smile, Requille looked up, “Shut up en-vermin, help me take care of this before the tower falls on us.”
