Eldest Aunt was happy and said in a low voice, “We have, but not much. If you come early, there will be more choices.”
“Okay, I’ll be here when the time comes.” After the aunty heard the news that she wanted, she left. She went home quickly to cook and when dinner was eaten, she would line up to buy discounted vegetables.
Those who did not cook did not know food was expensive. There were a lot of people in her family and she had calculated that if she bought discounted vegetables everyday, she could save three yuan each month.
Ever since the supermarket launched discounts, it was thought that there would not be much effect. After all, the groceries were somewhat unfresh after being left all day. Unexpectedly, once it was launched, it was sought after by the majority of housewives.
The price was nearly a third cheaper than during the day and there was no impact when buying it home and eating it.
Now when it was 7pm, people came to line up to buy discounted groceries.
The aunts had also learnt well and according to the daytime demands, they deliberately added more groceries and discounted them at night. Not to mention there being a lot of people, the reputation of the supermarket had also risen.
Seeing the customer leave, Youngest Aunt repeated what she had said just now, “I just said I thought of a good idea, but you two didn’t hear it!”
Eldest Aunt put down the scale and dusted her hands off, “I was busy just now. Tell us, I’m listening!”
“Yes, tell us again!”
Youngest Aunt walked up to the two of them, “Aren’t the university entrance exams starting tomorrow? The weather these days has been unusually hot. How about we let the exam students buy three popsicles for ten cents if they show their exam admission ticket? What do you think? Small profits but quick turnover?”
Usually popsicles were ten cents for two sticks, with one fifth being the cost price..
Eldest aunt did not really agree, “For three sticks at ten cents, we’ll be earning almost one seventh less!”
“That’s right, even if it’s small profits and quick turnover, how many students can there be?” Second Aunt agreed with her elder sister. Moreover, with the students coming and going to school, they were already selling hundreds everyday for two sticks at ten cents.
Su Mian tidied up her things and just as she was coming out with Wei Min, she heard the three aunts’ discussion.
“I think you should just sell them at the original price. The school has already arranged food and accommodation for the students. Most exam candidates will be resting and eating in the school, and won’t come out these few days. There aren’t many people like Wei Min and I who can stay with relatives. Besides, some students in the county have been designated to far away examination centres and all of them are living on campus.” Su Mian told the truth. There were also exam candidates who had to review for the next exam after finishing one.
“So it’s like this!” Youngest Aunt was somewhat frustrated. She had finally come up with a solution, but it was rejected by everyone.
“Alright, little sister, don’t lose your spirits. It’s a good thing to be willing to think. If you think a lot, there will naturally be something that will be suitable.” Second Aunt was the best at comforting people.
For the three days of 15, 16, and 17 July, Su Mian and Wei Min were on the go all day, finishing one exam after another.
On the afternoon of the third day, after the final English exam was over, cheers resounded everywhere throughout the exam centre.
They were finally free.
Su Mian walked out of the classroom calmly. She knew that she had performed well in the university entrance exams. She would definitely have no problems being admitted to the Second Military Medical University.
Wei Min ran out of the examination room next door. She hugged Su Mian and asked happily, “How did the exam go?” The two of them had agreed that they would ask each other after all the exams were completed.
“Not bad, what about you?” When Su Mian saw Wei Min smile until her eyebrows curved, she knew that she had performed well in the exam.
“Hm, Su Mian, I saw the Provincial Military Medical University beckoning me!”
“Heh, you’re really not modest at all!”
Wei Min tilted her head and said confidently, “Well, modesty makes people fall behind!”
The two girls talked and laughed as they walked back. From far away, they saw a bunch of people surrounding the supermarket.
