Chapter 50 Looking after

Just now, he was afraid and had actually thought that even if he had to die, he would willingly exchange his life for Su Mian’s.

He questioned himself, as he was by no means the type of person who was soft towards women.

Wei Zhen Hui glanced at the person in his arms again.

Su Mian had become unconscious from excessive blood loss.

At this moment, the north wind suddenly roared and black clouds gathered in the originally clear sky at the top of the mountain. After a moment, snowflakes fell one after another like scattered cotton.

Su Mian shivered incessantly and her teeth kept chattering. Wei Zhen Hui hugged her closer and touched her forehead worriedly. It was fortunate that she did not have a fever.

He took off his large military coat with one hand and wrapped it around Su Mian tightly.

It was him who had not looked after her well, so he could not let her get into trouble again.

He saw that the soldiers had collected the herbs and filled half the bamboo basket. Wei Zhen Hui gave the order to descend the mountain.

The snow fell heavier and heavier and the road was not visible for more than five metres ahead. In an instant, the snowflakes covered their feet and buried their tracks. Luckily, they did not encounter wolves.

During the way there, the team had moved slowly as Wei Zhen Hui had been careful about Su Mian’s physical strength. On the way back, Wei Zhen Hui carried Su Mian on his back and walked quickly the whole way as he was worried about Su Mian’s body.

Along the way, several team leaders had offered to swap with him, but Wei Zhen Hui had refused. For some reason, he had not wanted other men to touch her.

Rushing back, it was already 5pm by the time they returned to the barracks.

Wei Zhen Hui carried Su Mian on his back to the medical room. He asked the military doctor to clean her wounds and reapply the medicine, feeling relieved only when it was confirmed that none of her vital areas had been wounded.

In the light of dawn, the girl’s expression was calm and it was unknown what her plain white face was dreaming of as a smile hung on her lips. It was unlike last night when her delicate eyebrows were knitted together as she held onto his arm and shouted that it hurt.

When he had heard that, pain gripped his heart. He had never held a girl before and had not known that a girl’s whisper could be so sad.

He put his arms around her and patted her back softly, hoping to alleviate her pain.

She woke up once from pain and stared at him for a long time with her round eyes. Then her eyes reddened as she threw herself into his arms, “Wei Zhen Hui, do not leave me, do not marry someone else.”

After saying this, she had hugged him tightly just like yesterday morning, as though she was afraid he would disappear if she let go.

Looking at her again, she had fallen deeply asleep once more, tears still wet on her cheeks.

Wei Zhen Hui wiped her cheeks for her. They had only just met for the first time.

Yet she seemed to have known him for many years.

Wei Zhen Hui pulled his gaze away from her small and pretty face. He covered her carefully with the military blanket, putting it over her injured leg. He then filled the stove with firewood before he left.

As soon as he was gone, Su Mian opened her eyes. She had woken up long ago but Wei Zhen Hui kept staring at her and she had been too embarrassed to face him.

She thought it had been a dream last night so she told him to marry her. He must have thought she was crazy. Su Mian felt her face burning.

Wei Zhen Hui looked after her all night and the military coat he wore yesterday still lay on top of the blanket. Su Mian’s heart warmed and the smile on her lips widened.

She was thinking about the man too much. Too bad, Su Mian smacked her forehead. After a whole night, she wondered what Xiao Zhang’s condition was like. She had to go and see and besides, she still had not processed the Fortune Eupatorium herb that they had spent so much effort to find.

As Su Mian struggled to get up, Wen Wen appeared in her tent with a flash.

“You should rest for a while. I have already extracted the medicine for you. Xiao Zhang took the medicine and went back to sleep.” Wen Wen leaned close to Su Mian’s face again and sniffed. He felt that there was something different about Su Mian today. Could it be that this was a woman in love?
