Chapter 1 “Arrived to Another World”

“Ugh… Where am I?”

William woke up from his sleep. He realized that he had awoken in another place. Something that’s not he’s familiar with an abandoned warehouse in the late night. He looked around to see if anyone was here, but there was no one but raindrops dripping over the roof.

He felt a little bit of headache. He wasn’t sure how he got here nor why he was here. His clothes were all ragged and dirty. Confused about his whereabouts, he tried to walk his way out to find the exit and went back to his house.

It was dark, with rubbles and ruins found inside most of the room. He looked at each of the rooms inside the warehouse to see where the exit door was.

He walked his way down to what it seems to be the main lobby of the warehouse. There should be an exit door somewhere near it. He started walking down through the main staircase as the lightning just struck down near the warehouse and shone the whole room in a flash. There was someone at the lobby desk.

He saw someone standing in front of the lobby desk, leaning towards it. He doesn’t like the slightest idea that the room is dark, alone, and there’s someone standing menacingly inside this empty building. But he nerved up himself. It seems that the person doesn’t pose a threat.

William moved closely, step by step, getting closer to the lobby desk to check it out. As he got even closer, he tapped the person on the shoulder from behind.

“Hey, are you okay?” But there was no response.

He walked around the desk only to find that the person was dead.

“Jesus Christ!”

William screamed. He was shocked to find a dead body in this kind of place. Its body was poked through with some sort of crowbar that goes through the person’s body as if his body was nailed through the desk.

What was more interesting is that the person used full military equipment, with all the gears, camo suit, and even Kevlar that got pierced through with a crowbar. There was no telling who could have done this to a fully equipped militant.

It sent him to chills. He couldn’t imagine something dangerous like this would lurk within this building and could have been the next person to meet the same fate as this person. This made up his mind clearly. He has to get out of here as fast as possible.

He straightened himself up to find anything that could be useful for him to use that belongs to this person by searching his whole body for something. It was something he would never think he would do, touching a dead person’s body and looting what belonged to it.

He found a flashlight that could be useful in this dark room, a combat knife, and a phone. William tried to turn off the phone in hope that he could call someone or get his way out of here instantly. He pressed the power button and prayed that it still had some battery left.

The phone showed its boot-up screen, and William took a deep breath of relief. Good thing that this guy brings his phone even on duty calls. The phone was finally active, and without wasting any more time, he started to type a number and tried to call someone.

“Please, please, please, please pick up.”

He hoped that the number he dialed would pick up their phones at this time of the night. Then, a voice can be heard from the phone.

“The number you’re calling is not available right now. Please try again later.”

“F***!”

He tried another number but was distracted by the rustling noises above his head. Something is moving on the roof. Clearly, it was something heavy that didn’t sound like raindrops. It made him very wary about his situation now.

He put the phone away in his pocket and picked up the flashlight and the combat knife in his hand. He is ready to fight anything that comes in front of his vision. It was the most frightening moment, facing an unknown threat that could end his life at any time.

The rustling sound above his head became more apparent, and it was not only one, two, or three, but it felt like there were many of them. A shadow was flashed on the window. Someone or something was definitely coming closer to him.

William wasn’t sure whether he should run blindly or go out through the window or door to get out of the building. Neither of the two options was good because he wasn’t sure which would benefit him or trap him.

The footsteps becoming closer and closer, William braved himself up for what was to come. At least he’s not going to die easily.

The main door was burst through by a group of people breaking and entering the place. They were fully armed with weapons and military uniforms and flashed their lights throughout the place. At least a dozen military people were entering the place, but they looked different from the ones who died there.

One of the militants pointed his gun and lights over William and shouted, “Drop your weapon and get on the ground!”

William is shocked by it. He doesn’t want to die. All he can do is comply with what they said. Each one of them checks the room one by one to make sure the situation is clear, even the people from above the roof combing down the room from top to bottom.

“Commanding Officer Grace, the coast is clear. All of the Frontrunners operators had not found anything within the building. Probably it’s just another misdirection made by them.”

“I see. Call off all Task Forces. Send a message to the headquarters regarding the situation.”

“Understood.”

The officer left the building, and this Captain-like appearance named Grace looked toward William on the left. He is currently being held with a few other officers. She walked her way toward William and asked the officers.

“What about this?”

“One of the people who were here, the other one is dead. Only leaving him here alone.”

“Is that so?” She glanced at William, “Why are you here? Bloody and messy appearance at this time of night. Are you the one who killed him?”

“Look, It’s not what it looks like. I don’t know why or how I get here, but I really don’t know about anything that’s happening here. I just want to go home.” said William.

“Really?” Grace then looked at one of the officers, “Any information about it?”

“Not much. He said the same thing to us that he wasn’t part of any of this.”

William’s face was confused about what was going on. He woke up at this place, and suddenly he caught up in something. Grace suspiciously looked at William’s presence within the building.

“Do the usual, and we’ll check up on him later.”

“Check wha-“

Before William finished his sentence, he was knocked out by one of the officers with the gun stock. He fell unconscious and dropped down. He was taken by them, and one by one, they left the building, rode on their military vehicles, and drove away from the area.

It was bright. He is currently inside a room. He woke up with dazed eyes, flinching at the light and white walls surrounding him. His hands were cuffed, and his clothes changed from a dirty shirt to an orange long-sleeved jumpsuit.

He sat on a chair with tables in front of him. There is also someone with a lab coat holding a clipboard, waiting for him to finally wake up. He rubbed his eyes and finally realized his situation now.

“It seems that you’ve woke up, D-1092. My name is Dr. Erik Anderson, and I will be your interviewer for this session.”
