Chapter 187- The Hero Returns

Supreme Commander Luke gazed across the battlefield as the Markwell Empire struck the Republic of Eastguard while it was weak. It was the first war that wiped out over 20% of the military force of the union. The demon invasion that followed made the other nations in the union weak to the point that they could compare notes on the turmoil they faced a year before. The entire republic had an army the size of a small country that would only have half a dozen population centers under it, at best. However, the republic now had over six hundred population centers. Their only blessing was that their land was blocked off by impassable mountains protected by dragon4dragonspeciess and other winged creatures. It was a natural border from invaders. The different broods keep to themselves, even from their own kind. They were, as the term goes, oddballs.

Dear Readers. Scrapers have recently been devasting our views. At this rate, the site (creativenovels .com) might...let's just hope it doesn't come to that. If you are reading on a scraper site. Please don't.

The whole area of this country was considered an oddball location for dragons.

One time; a dragon came into town and settled down in one area of the plains where he paid a merchant some gold coins to have a simple sign made.

‘999 year old virgin looking to escape a curse before becoming a grand sage of dragons.’

Actually, that’s not exactly true. He was 998….

Which is about the same number of descendants he left behind by the time he turned a thousand. The female dragon, his mother, beat him senseless for squandering her hoard for baby making. Unfortunately, for the two of them, their bloodline mostly died out.

It’s mainly because the useless horny dragonoid teenagers were killed off by the beasts of the mountain. Their father was also a useless oddball.

In recent times, two cases of oddball dragons appeared. The first case is a dragon queen settling into the planes near a human fortress. Her reasoning was very simple, “Humans have wine. If I pay them, they can give me some.” (Dragon Queen)

However, she never told the humans this, which is why she’s considered an oddball.

The second one is her daughter. She lived in a grey area between humans and dragons.

To other dragons, in character at least, she’s a normal dragon. She cares for her husband (wife, actually!) and deals with their internal affairs while he struts his stuff as the pride and symbol of the brood. She isn’t afraid to make investments either, which is something a high ranking dragon needs to do. Two facts about her change everything though; she’s the dominant one of her relationship, which means she’s stronger. However, this has happened before, so it’s not quite oddball material. What makes her an oddball is her mate that was born between two humans. Somewhere along the line, there was a dragon ancestor, but the who, when, and why will remain as mysteries to the dragons. However, unlike the other oddballs that are ignored by other dragons, she does have a social life. This means that when the oddball dragons heard the words of their emperor, they all looked to the only other dragon among them with a connection to other dragons. This left Astrid7Astridcharacter in a rather unique situation.

Fifty-five days have passed in-game since the country learned that KMega6KMegacharacter was killed.

Fifty-one days of battle lead to a continued stalemate between the Eastguard Republic and the Markwell Empire. The two armies were rather balanced, but there were some differences; the army of Eastguard was smaller, but they had more experienced and powerful soldiers.

They’re survivors, and this is their home. If they show their backs, then the blade will come to their families next. However, the Markwell Empire swelled with numbers, they had very little talent. More importantly, they were all hungry because the Empire couldn’t feed its military. They were after the grains and food stores. The Markwell Empire is a rather large country, but they aren’t blessed with enough farmable land to feed it’s swelled population.

Over fifty days have passed since the war started, and there was no end in sight. The Republic’s army wasn’t large enough to stop all the raiding groups, but the Empire wasn’t strong enough to just stomp on them. Luke, with a heavy heart, looked upon the battlefield as his mind swirled.

He then heard the voice of a mage as a plain armored knight walked forward, “ By the gods! He’s returned!” (Mage)
