Ning Meng Yao looked at Yang Cui with a smile: “You’re really so stupid. So what if I did it on purpose?” She wasn’t even the least bit worried about Yang Cui because no one would believe what she said. No matter how much she said, there would be no use.
Yang Cui glared at Ning Meng Yao: “I’ll let everyone know about your sham and make them kick you out from this village.”
Ning Meng Yao shrugged, then she faintly said: “Let’s see if people would believe you or me.”
Not long after, Aunty Li returned with Yang Zhu and some other villagers, including Madame Chen.
On the way back Aunty Li had already told everyone about the incident. They couldn’t believe that Yang Cui actually tried to harm someone with the scissors.
But when they arrived, they saw Ning Meng Yao’s pale face and the scissors on the floor, and they immediately understood.
Yang Cui was looking for trouble.
“Ning Meng Yao, you’re trying to frame my daughter again! I won’t let you succeed!” Madame Chen yelled before other people even had a chance to open their mouths.
Ning Meng Yao bit her lip and looked at Madame Chen. After a while, she laughed with a bit of ridicule: “Aunty, I really don’t know when I have offended your family. You come to trouble me just after announcing my engagement and even when I’m just sewing clothes at home now, your daughter wants to harm me and tried to ruin my face using my own scissors. How seriously have I offended your family?”
The villagers around them also thought that Madame Chen was too rude. Ning Meng Yao had brought so much benefit to their village. The villagers didn’t even envy her now. What’s more even relatives from other villages were asking if they could come and work here.
It was just that the two workshops weren’t very big so they didn’t need so much manpower. Those people could only admire them, and envy them at the same time while thinking why didn’t such a good thing happen in their village instead.
Now, there was someone trying to impede this business? Ning Meng Yao rarely went to the village. She basically just stayed at home, especially now after the engagement. Since Qiao Tian Chang wasn’t around, she had been doing needlework at home, making clothes and visiting the workshops. She didn’t bother anyone else at all so how could this incident have happened to her?
Ning Meng Yao also didn’t offend either Madame Chen or her husband’s ancestors so why were they always troubling her?
Madame Chen’s expression changed. She didn’t expect Ning Meng Yao’s to be such an eloquent actress: “Ning Meng Yao, don’t you dare to pull out an act. Cut your attempt to tarnish my daughter’s name.”
“Ning Meng Yao, don’t you feel any guilt at ruining my reputation?” Yang Cui looked at her with teary eyes, as if she was the victim instead of her.
Some people were getting confused. But Aunty Li suddenly screamed out in anger: “You mother and daughter alike are really shameless. How could the both of you bully an orphan girl? Yang Cui, how can you try to accuse Meng Yao like this? Aren’t you afraid of being struck by lightning? You and your malicious acts would only give you a hard time when looking for a husband. It’s no wonder that Tian Chang doesn’t want you. It would be more strange if someone would actually fall for you.”
Aunty Li’s words were a little impolite. However, seeing that Madame Chen wanted to talk back, she continued: “Did Meng Yao making clothes at home offend you in any way, Yang Cui? Did you have to come here and make a scene? You came here to look for trouble, and yet now you’re trying to blame Meng Yao. Your family really has some serious issues.”
Everyone present agreed with Aunty Li’s words.
Seeing the dissatisfaction in Madame Chen and Yang Cui’s eyes, everyone shared the same thought: Meng Yao didn’t even bother them, so what actually provoked them and led them to trouble her in such a way instead?
Yang Zhu looked at Yang Cui’s pale face. He walked over to her and sighed heavily: “Yang Cui, I really don’t want to say this but if you’re going to behave like this, then you should leave White Mountain Village. We don’t need a girl like you here.”
“What do you mean by this, Village Head!?” Madame Chen asked out loud.
Yang Zhu turned towards Madame Chen and coldly said: “What do I mean? Madame Chen, you’re being the irresponsible one here. If you’re unable to take care of your daughter properly, then I suggest that your family move out of the village. And don’t even try saying that I’m being cruel, as you should already know earlier about your daughter’s behaviour.”
“You…”
