Peter quickly noticed that the guardsmen were more cautious around Dramix than the others because of his species. They fed him a bowl of something that Peter couldn’t recognize and didn’t dare ask what it was, and a cup of water. They noticed that he was playing with some kind of stick, but they came to the conclusion that it wasn’t very dangerous compared to just his bare hands. None of them wanted to confront him either.
Several hours passed before Peter finally came up with a plan.
“….Then, on my third trial, I was asked to mine the crystal that houses you. It wasn’t easy, but I…” (Dramix’s Spirit Talking)
Peter would have been rather surprised by this information if he was actually listening to his life story.
“That’s it!” (Peter’s Spirit Talking)
Dramix growled with annoyance and grumbled, “Tired of listening already? You’re the one that wanted to learn more about me.” (Dramix’s Spirit Talking)
Peter sighed.
“Not that. You’ve had a rather entertaining life Dramix, that’s for sure. I’m talking about where you are to break out.” (Peter’s Spirit Talking)
Dramix then looked at the road ahead. He’s already noticed and told Peter that they’ve been traveling along a river, but they will soon have to go up the cliff pass of a mountain.
The pass was narrow, and there would be little room to get around the wagons or turn them around.
Dramix immediately figured out what he was talking about as he said, “It’s a good spot indeed. The river also flows back this way, so they’ll have to turn the wagons around after they leave the pass in order to search for us.” (Dramix’s Spirit Talking)
“However, we’ll have trouble with the escape itself because I can’t help you.” (Peter’s Spirit Talking)
Dramix humorously chuckled.
“I can handle it. I was disappointed at first when you told me that you weren’t a strength spirit, but I’m rather glad now that I was wrong.” (Dramix’s Spirit Talking)
Peter laughed.
“Don’t thank me yet. I could still accidentally get you killed.” (Peter’s Spirit Talking)
Dramix chuckled again.
“At least I’d die fighting. For a Drakan, that is all we can ask for.” (Dramix’s Spirit Talking)
Peter smiled before his expression changed to one full of worry as he thought about his death.
“So, tell me about this third trial. You said that you had to mine a jewel?” (Peter’s Spirit Talking)
Dramix relaxed his shoulders before leaning against the bars of the cage he was in and continuing his tale,
“Ah yes, the soul gem. I was in the mine of the dead where spiteful and bored souls gather. They toyed with me for days in the darkness. In the end, I made it to the treasury and passed their trials. I don’t have the time to tell you about it in full detail though.” (Dramix’s Spirit Talking)
Peter was a little relieved after hearing that.
“Do you think we have the time for you to tell me about your parents?” (Peter’s Spirit Talking)
Dramix tensed up his shoulders before quickly relaxing again.
“My father was a proud tailor. He made simple leather clothing and other things. He worked most of his life like this, but one day, he felt a void in his life so he sought out a clutch mother. After my birth, he paid for her services, but she quickly disappeared, so I don’t know much about her. He taught me his trade so I could take over the shop one day, but during my coming of age trials….” (Dramix’s Spirit Talking)
Dramix heaved a heavy sigh before continuing, “No one expected it to be me. Most shamans come from the great bloodlines; the heroes and champions of the Drakans.” (Dramix’s Spirit Talking)
It was easy to read that Dramix was unhappy about his fate.
“You miss the simple life?” (Peter’s Spirit Talking)
Dramix gripped the side of the cage as they hit a rocky patch while entering the pass.
“I’m not so sure. I’m not even sure what I want to do right now. All I know for sure is that I want out of this cage.” (Dramix’s Spirit Talking)
Peter could agree with that.
He then noticed that they were finally in the pass.
“I do have one more idea for you. If you can disable one of the wagons, it’ll hamper their search. They may even give up on you because it’ll be a hassle to chase you around.” (Peter’s Spirit Talking)
Dramix grunted before responding, “Leave the escape to me. You’ve helped enough.” (Dramix’s Spirit Talking)
Once he finished speaking, Dramix suddenly turned around and jammed the stick into the keyhole of the cage and turned it with all his might. The stick buckled and snapped, but not before unlocking the cage. Dramix was thrown through the opening before jumping out towards the lead horse and pulling the wagon behind them.
Upon seeing a being with claws and fangs jumping towards it, the horse was full of fright as it ran right off the cliff. However, before it completely went over, Dramix jumped forward and used the driver’s face as a springboard to jump to the other wagon.
He had landed square on the hitch that held the horses together.
As soon as he saw him, the driver tried to grab his sword, but he was too late as Dramix grabbed him and threw him over the edge of the cliff to meet his comrades.
“Dramix, you gotta get out of here! Grab something to survive and go.” (Peter’s Spirit Talking)
Dramix raised his head and looked over his shoulder to see that the slavers had noticed the wagon driving right off the cliff. All the noise that he was making was hard to miss, but they didn’t notice the cause just yet.
He quickly grabbed the driver’s knapsack and a cooking knife before hearing Peter say, “Get out of here! They noticed you!” (Peter’s Spirit Talking)
Dramix took two steps forward before jumping off the cliff and extending his wings.
However, when he was in mid-air, something wrapped around his left wing, causing him to lose control and fall into the river below.
