Chapter 9- The Debt

After returning from the fog market, Peter was back in the jewel around Dramix’s neck, who stopped humming.

“So that’s the enlightenment of shamans. I already feel stronger and wiser.” (Dramix’s Spirit Talking)

Peter didn’t have an immediate comment to give him. It was a lot for both of them to take in.

“It’s rather fortunate that we had enough for me to invest in something as well. We won’t be able to afford anything from there again for some time though.” (Peter’s Spirit Talking)

Dramix stopped his humming.

“True, but I’m also wondering how I attain these higher states that the foggy one spoke of.” (Dramix’s Spirit Talking)

Peter paused to think about that.

“It’s your deeds. Your major accomplishments. That’s how I understand it at least. I’m not infallible though, so I may be wrong.” (Peter’s Spirit Talking)

Dramix stood up and took off the jewel that’s usually around his neck, and looked at it in his hand.

“Another thing that’s true that is that the amulet grew. Not many shamans are able to do this. For that, I am thankful. I know now that I’m worth more than many people mocked me for being. I have earned my father his honor back.” (Dramix’s Spirit Talking)

Peter looked at his happy lizard-like face and almost felt the gratitude coming from him.

“I’m happy that I could help you with that.” (Peter’s Spirit Talking)

Dramix gently put the amulet back where it was, and left the bare room.

He wasn’t standing around for long before he started hearing voices in the distance.

“It’s not like we have many options left. We have no one left that is able to fight.” (Naleeit)

“But sister! To just run away and leave dawns twilight in his hands? He already has the moons hue and the stars gaze. The only artifacts left would be suns glows and worlds reflection. Even if we could warn the elves and the order of the sun, what chance would they have?” (Gulliver)

Dramix entered the bar area and found Naleeit and Gulliver deep in discussion.

Naleeit then notices him and sighed.

“What I’m saying is…., what can we do brother? We have no one left but two simple guards and each other.” (Naleeit)

Dramix growled in annoyance.

“I don’t know about those items you mentioned, or about your situation, but me and him are bound by fate. It’s a fate that I don’t know about, but I’m bound to him.” (Dramix)

Gulliver smiled and moved over to him.

“Now we have the Drakan on our side.” (Gulliver)

Dramix took a step back to dodge the welcoming gesture.

“I won’t speak on your behalf to my people. If we go to my homeland, then you must speak for yourself. That is our way.” (Dramix)

Gulliver lowered his hand as Dramix turned his side to the other.

“The way I see it, you owe me your life anyways. My pride refuses to acknowledge you as my superior until a favor that I choose is paid back.” (Dramix)

Dramix then turned his head and looked toward Naleeit.

“I will kill you before you touch my sister.” (Gulliver)

Gulliver stepped in between them. She then put a hand gently on his shoulder.

“I will make any sacrifice in order to save the world.” (Naleeit)

Dramix then turned fully toward her again.

“It’s true that I desire your body, but I have no right to it unless you are willing to give it to me. He’s the only one that can repay his debt though.” (Dramix)

Naleeit gently grabbed her arm and looked away.

“I see.” (Naleeit)

Dramix then looked toward Gulliver again.

“I know that I must help you. Fate has brought us together for a reason. That is why I didn’t abandon you after you were well enough to be on your own.” (Dramix)

Naleeit then looked back at Dramix.

“I see that you’re listening to your spirit.” (Naleeit)

Dramix grunted.

“Actually, he hasn’t said anything to me since I ended my meditation.” (Dramix)

Gulliver then stepped in between the two again.

“And when you healed me before?” (Gulliver)

Dramix sighed.

“That was my decision as well.  He has only aided me in what I desire, not telling me how I live.” (Dramix)

Peter chuckled.

“Well said. It’s your life. I have no right to tell you how to live it. Even if I did so, you have no reason to listen.” (Peter’s Spirit Talking)

Dramix crossed his arms and sighed.

“However, I must admit that I’m a bit lacking in experience with weapons. It is apparent to me that I may have to fight in the future. While I am strong in body, and sharp of wit, I still need training. That’s the price that I’m asking for.” (Dramix)

Gulliver became shocked when he said that.

“You want me to train you while the world needs to be warned?” (Gulliver)

Gulliver turned to the bar and picked up a full bottle before walking away.

“I need to think about my future.” (Gulliver)

He then walked up the ramp to the rooms. Dramix watched him leave, before noticing Naleeit was disappointed.

“You must forgive him. He’s been through a lot and feeling a little lost right now.” (Naleeit)

Dramix went to a bar stool and sat down while getting another bottle and a pair of cups, then he filled them.

“I admit that I was blunt as well. I don’t need my spirit to point out to me that there’s more than I know at stake. Self improvement will help in this fate that we’re in now though.” (Dramix)

Naleeit took the unclaimed cup and held it in her hand.

“I see. My brother is lost, and we have no way of knowing what to do. Everyone we counted on for guidance or support are dead now. Everyone except old Towward, but he’s locked up.” (Naleeit)

Dramix then drank his cup empty.

“That’s as good a place to start as any I suppose. Where is this Towward locked up at?” (Dramix)

Naleeit became shocked and dropped her cup.

“It’s impossible. It’s a fortress, not to mention that the Dark Lord is sitting on that very throne right now.” (Naleeit)

Peter laughed to himself thinking about how many video game plots there were about stealing something from the games nemesis. He then came up with over a half a dozen of titles in his head within seconds.

However, he soon sobered up to this fact.

“Ask her if you could be able to get into the fortress as a traveler?” (Peter’s Spirit Talking)

Dramix did as we told, then Naleeit picked up her cup with her tail before setting it back down on the bar.

“It’s possible. He’s been using the place to earn coffers and build up his army again after his costly war. It won’t be long before he moves again.” (Naleeit)

Dramix grunted in amusement while trying to figure out where his spirit was heading in his thinking. He liked how his spirit gave him directions right when he needed them, despite how annoying they can be.

“It shouldn’t be too hard for me to infiltrate the place and scout it out then. After I train and master a weapon that is.” (Dramix)

Naleeit had poured herself another drink with her tail, before noticing the cup in her tail was waiting to be grabbed.

“If my brother won’t train you, then I’ll be happy to. I’m fair with swords, some blades, and one handed blunt weapons. Is there any weapon in particular you desire to master?” (Naleeit)

Dramix sighed.

“The spear seems more favorable to me, but I would like to try all the weapons that you can teach me.” (Dramix)

Naleeit finished her drink, then she set the cup down on the bar.

“Very well. Our arsenal is limited, but we can make do. First will be your armor. It would be fine on any village, but in a den of murderers and thieves, you would want something between them and your valuables.” (Naleeit)

Dramix looked at his simple worn shaman garb. He admitted to himself that it did leave several places vulnerable in combat.

“The village near here has many skilled craftsman.” (Naleeit)

Dramix grunted in annoyance.

“I can make it myself.” (Dramix)

Naleeit became annoyed when he said that.

“Don’t overestimate your abilities, or the time you have.” (Naleeit)

Dramix kept himself from laughing.

“It won’t be the first leather battle armor I’ve made. It’ll just be the first I’ve done for myself. I know what I’m doing.” (Dramix)

Naleeit seem pleased.

“Good. That will save us a good amount of time. Getting the tools you will need will be much simpler. We’ll need to make you a weapon worthy of your size and strength next. The weapons here are all for smaller men except for my own that I managed to save. Even then, you’re larger and stronger than I am.” (Naleeit)

Dramix was pleased to hear that.

He then realized that such things couldn’t be easily gotten.

“The final thing we need is an actual plan of action.” (Naleeit)

Peter laughed when she said that.

“Think of one while you train. If worse comes to worse, I’ll help you when you need it.” (Peter’s Spirit Talking)

Dramix smirked.

“We have some time to do that one. Let’s get the immediate things done first.” (Dramix’s Spirit Talking)
