HC ch20

Will stood at the head of the trolly carrying the wrapped remains of his father, on each corner was one of his sisters. It had been less than a day since the trauma that Marleen went through, but she refused to let another take her place. Outside the mines, all the humans gathered to honor the human that was most respected in the village. The pace was slow and solemn and when they arrived in the boss room the kobolds and boss dragon were bowing themselves honoring the fallen human. Inside the temple, they were brought to the temple of Krypt. The dungeon had set a clear path in the crypt of kobolds, where all its generations of kobolds are laid to rest. The expansive, and never-ending looking line of kobold bones showed just how old the dungeon was. By his rough count of over a hundred before he stopped and the near hour trek after he stopped he guessed the dungeon was over ten thousand years old. He knew the numbers did not make sense, but his instincts told him it was at least this amount based on what he was guessing from what the dungeon allowed them to see.

When they came to the end of the long hall a set of five platforms room enough for two the lay side by side appeared. He somehow knew this is where his father’s final rest deserved to be. Carefully the four wordlessly put their father beside their wrapped mother’s body. Her flesh long removed, leaving the bleached bones of a kobold almost a third shorter than them and their father. Unsure what else to do they began to look around as a pair of torches lit on the wall, an orb at the feet of their parents lit up, and a teleport glyph appeared in the center of the circle of five platforms. Lora looks at the orb with Marleen as the other two looks at the wall. On the wall, they see the names of their mother and father and under it splitting into four is the names of each of the siblings.

“ These are mom’s memories!”

Will turned to his youngest sister and smiled. What happened the day before still could not keep that adventurous spirit of hers down for long.

Feeling this was something they should not be messing with, the four said a silent prayer to their parents before moving to the teleport glyph. Which returned them to the boss room. His two oldest sisters started holding the younger one as Will turned to the dragon.

“ I want to learn how to fight, so what happened to my family never happens again.”

Bastion stood in the center of the king’s court. The signs of battle were clear on him. Three more times had adventurers engage him on his way here. None were as strong as the first group, but then he was not as strong then as well. His rank had dropped to the mid-level of SSS by now.

“ King of Laroot, four days ago, a noble and escort came to my home and attempted to seize control of my land. For the crime of disrupting my plans, I executed each and every invader.”

Bastion materialized the sack he had full of heads and opened it before dumping it on the ground. Next Bastion took out a glowing orb.

“ This contains their souls and memories. All we ask is you punish those who orchestrated this crime.”

This time Bastion handed the orb to a servant. The king gripped his armrest annoyed. Some at the dungeon monster, some at his nobles, and some at himself for allowing things to progress to this.

“ And what of the adventurers you killed on your way here?”

“ They attempted to interfere with a messenger, a breach of the accords. As such they are treated as if killed in a dungeon. There will be no resurrections. If someone has a problem with that then they can come to us and negotiate. We are a kind and gentle dungeon, but make no mistake…”

Bastion starts releasing the full power of his aura.

“ We can defend ourselves if needed.”

With that, he created a glyph under his feet and then he was gone.

All around the room were staff of the castle and nobles falling to their knees, pools of urine forming under many of them. The king could only put a hand to his forehead.

“ I knew that dungeon was stronger than it lets on, but to think it is a cataclysm in power.”
